I know I know, this is late but I was trying to build the motivation to draw a bit more and obviously that didn't happen so I basically just monochromed my sketches
Anyhow, que the ranting and pictures ^^
I guess to start I want to dump some drawings I did a few years ago (up to six years back! Wroah!) Back when I was first introduced to the game and had nearly no experience with art
The majority of these were done in sketchbooks and even more were doodled on the opposite end of a math, english, science, or history notebook so teachers wouldn't see. When this game was introduced to me at school, I only had one friend at the time--who was the one that told me about Undertale. He was an ass and when he loaded up the game told me to type in "Frisk" for the name. Which. Is Hard Mode, for those who don't know ^^".
Anyway, needless to say, I got absolutely demolished and decided to continue with classwork. After school, I got home and bought the game on Switch out of curiosity ("It was kinda fun, so why not?") And that was the beginning of my complete obsession. From songs, to playthroughs, to concept art, and fanart, I was enamored with the characters and story, and everything in between. And if you didn't notice already, I definitely took to the skeletons the most XD
Without elaborating too much, this game got me through some of the hardest years of my life, when I understood Alphys' need to be included as my friend left to a different school, and Sans' hopelessness/desperation when I played through the genocide route.
I loved everything about this dumb little game, and it inspired me to start drawing again after deciding to quit three years prior. As you already saw, my drawings weren't pretty, but I kept drawing because I love these characters, and I wanted to get better with my art for them. Every time I picked up my Switch and played through yet another save file, I'd discover something new about this game (and honestly, I'm still finding new things to this day! Gotta love a never-ending mystery), and y'know, who wouldn't be motivated to draw after playing Undertale?
Without this game, I wouldn't have gotten through the ugliest part of the learning process, and I likely wouldn't be here writing this post right now.
Not only that, but because of Undertale, I also have Quinn and Kahari, who are my main two original characters, that actually began as Undertale ocs. I put a lot of heart and soul into who they are, which stem from who I am as a person today.
As for my art, of course I'm still improving, as all artists do, and I'm having fun indulging in different shows and movies. Also, I'm doing much better overall, and I've moved out of the toxic environment I was in six years ago.
The love I have for this game is rekindled every time I see new fanart, or a silly new comic someone has made. It genuinely makes me happy to see when newcomers find and connect with this game the way I have. I owe everything to Undertale, and I will never lose my love for it--even if my hyperfixation is on something else for a time ^^
Anyway. The Undertale stream was awesome and that's what gave me the power to do all of the sketches for this post. It's always fun to see how far I've come, compared to when I first began drawing again.
And I guess I can also say that, looking in the mirror today, despite everything I've been through...
