╰┈➤ IDOL LIFE was always destined for the both of you, chasing your dreams together, singing verses in harmony, it was all you talked about for years, until his sudden move. So why? Why after all this time are you seeing him again? On the opposite side of the stage?
╰┈➤ INCLUDES : childhood best friends to lovers, Seonghyeon and y/n were separated when his family had to move away, both of them become idols after years have passed, something they’ve both dreamt of being, yet they weren’t going to be perusing their dreams together. This will contain some angst, maybe even some anger directed to Seonghyeon for leaving y/n with little to no explanation. (。ᵕ ◞ _◟)
╰┈➤ NOTES : heeeeyyy.. part 2 out but at what cost. First of all, I am SO sorry for disappearing out of nowhere and kind of abandoning this fic. I’ve been soooo tired recently and I didn’t have any motivation to write at all. I’m glad to finally be releasing this part after ending the first chapter like that, so please take this as my apology and I’ll do my best to be more consistent with my uploads <3 (also I think I should give a small heads up that this story won’t be 100% accurate to the actual timeline of these groups, like photos and stuff that are from way more recently may be depicted to be from a lot earlier, mostly because I suck at keeping track of when things happen so.. hope that’s okay!! ^^)

“y/n come out!” Juun spoke, her fist banging against my door. The echoed voices of the other girls followed shortly after. I did not want to leave, I wanted to bury myself into my pillow, scream my lungs out into it before succumbing to slumber, trying to pretend that what I saw wasn’t real, that Seonghyeon didn’t debut as an idol, that he was still back in our hometown before he moved, still my best friend, still the person I could always turn to.
It’s been months since I saw that first post, the first reminder that he perused his dream. It kept haunting me, that we were in the same profession, so close yet so far. I tried to avoid thinking about it, tried focusing on my group and our music. I really tried.
Unfortunately you can’t run away from the truth.
“y/n if you don’t open this door I’ll get our manager!” Ian spoke, and finally, the lock clicked. They all immediately shuffled inside, scanning the room until they found me sitting back down on my bed.
“y/n..” Ye-on sighed as she sat beside me, her hand moving to my back and rubbing comfortingly. I relaxed into her hand and leaned my head against her shoulder. The rest of the girls scattered themselves across the room. Stella at my desk, Jiwoo and Carmen on my bed behind me, and the rest sat on the floor close by.
“You’ve been acting weird ever since that new group debuted, did you know them?” Stella spoke from my desk. I remained quiet for a minute before shaking my head. My history with Seonghyeon would remain private. Not even my closest friends got to know.
“You’re obviously bothered by something!” Ian spoke up. I was backed into a corner, surrounded by my friends trying to figure out what was troubling me. I had to come up with an excuse.
“I’m just.. worried. They seem talented and.. might win rookie awards over us.” I mentally cringed at my lame excuse, seriously? That over the top reaction because of a stupid award?
The girls all shared glances between them, as if trying to silently debate if what I said held a semblance of truth. I could see that some of them were clearly not buying my excuse, but deciding not to further push it.
“If you say so..” Carmen sighed in defeat before standing up and continuing. “We just, worry about you. We don’t want you to feel like you can’t talk to us.” She finished. The girls nodded or responded with their own form of agreement.
Guilt began to pool in my head. I was causing unnecessary frustration for my group members all because of a boy I stopped talking to years ago. Was this all worth it? Was it worth keeping everything in and seeing my group members worry? No. Not at all.
POV - SEONGHYEON TO CORTIS
Seonghyeon’s phone slipped into his pocket as he waited for the elevator to reach his floor. His phone continued to vibrate but he decided not to pick it up yet, it must’ve been Martin continuing his tantrum. Once the elevator doors opened, Seonghyeon tiredly stepped inside. He exhaled heavily and leaned against the wall of the elevator. He shut his eyes and mentally prepared himself for the hectic schedule ahead of them.
As the elevator reached his floor, he stepped out and began making his way to one of the meeting rooms James told them to go to. His hand reached down into his pocket and picked up his phone, ignoring the messages from his group chat and deciding to check social media. He scrolled on Twitter for a minute, something that his label wasn’t aware of. Thankfully.
His thumb stopped scrolling for a bit until it swiped up, a tweet from a kpop news account had posted. Slowly, a small smile had formed on Seonghyeon’s face.
He had been keeping track of your progress in the industry ever since he heard from word of mouth that someone with your exact name was debuting in a new girl group. He was aware. Seonghyeon was a silent supporter, listening to your debut album, secretly keeping up with your groups social media presence, all to have a chance to see a semblance of your new life without him. He knew you were chasing your dreams, he just hoped you could see him chasing his own dreams and career too.
He missed what you once had, but could he really return after everything that happened? No. Seonghyeon felt too much shame to do that. He did not deserve to come back into your life after leaving and never breathing a word of it to you ever since he left. “Yo, Sean.” A voice made Seonghyeon snap out of his thoughts, nearly dropping his phone as he turned to the 6’3 leader, a smile on his face as he approached, throwing an arm around his shoulders as they continued toward their meeting.
“I’m soooo tired, can’t believe we already have a meeting.” Martin continued his rambling, but Seonghyeon couldn’t keep his mind away from you, from the tweet, from the mere thought that things could’ve been different if he wasn’t afraid to just.. talk to you.
“I wish you waited for me.” a quiet mumble slipped from his lips, he didn’t even realise he spoke it until Martin looked at him confused, raising an eyebrow.
“Huh? Did you say something?” He asked, pausing in the hallway. Seonghyeon quickly shook his head, his face feeling warm at the embarrassment of saying that out loud
“No.. it’s nothing.”
POV - Y/N
The plane ride was silent, for the most part. All I knew is that I was extremely tired, and I think the others agreed with me. We stayed in England for a week and a half, mostly just focusing on photoshoots and interviews. It all kind of just.. passed in a blur. Before we knew it, we were back on a plane for another 13 hours. I avoided checking social media for the majority of our stay, for one, I wanted to keep my focus on the real reason for our trip, for promotion, and secondly, because I simply didn’t have the time.
I barely registered when we landed in Korea, the paparazzi, fans, all of that was like a numb feeling in my head. We were led outside once we got our bags and were immediately ushered inside the waiting cars. Simultaneously, sighs of relief came from all of us as we were finally out of the public’s eye. Ian slumped beside me.
“So tired..” she mumbled, her head leaning against my shoulder. I hum and lean my head back against hers too as I nod.
“Yeah, I feel gross. The second I get back to the dorms I’m taking a shower.” I look out the window as we began driving off.
“Mhm, me too.” Ian yawned before picking up her phone to distract herself, and I did the same. I open my phone and check social media, not finding anything interesting, until I saw an instagram post by CORTIS, how’d they end up on my feed?
It was just a photo dump of all the members, and I, for some reason, scrolled. Who am I kidding? I know why I was scrolling. I paused as I saw a photo of Seonghyeon, looking completely content with his life. My grip on my phone tightened, emotions threatening to spill, yet I keep it in, I can’t go around worrying the rest of my members right now, especially over something so minuscule.
When we arrived back home, we were pulled aside by our manager before we could start unpacking, earning some irritation from us. Our manager seemed, excited about something. She cleared her throat.
“So, I hope you’re all aware what MAMA is..” she began, and we all immediately sobered up. “You’ve all been nominated for best new artist, and have been asked to preform during the award show.” She smiled.
Silence followed a bit before the group burst into happiness, cheering and applauding, and I felt happy too, how could I not be? I was pulled into a group hug by Juun, the girls all surrounded us, and for the first time in a while, my heart felt lighter.
“Rehearsals begin in early November, dates aren’t set yet, but I’ll give you updates when I’ve received them.” She smiled before dismissing us, allowing us to unpack, but now, with newfound excitement. Nothing could ruin this for us, and I wouldn’t let anything ruin this night for us.
