I dont understand why people say "im inside your walls" when that is physical impossible, like gow can you be inside of bricks?? Have you ever felt or touched bricks, those things can fuck you up so hard if you mess with them
They seek to unnerve me, perhaps. I am unbothered. I have had entire neighborhoods of rats within my walls.

Alright I woke up in a weird on edge and lowkey bitchy mood, and Iām trying to just vibe and chill until I settle back down but Iām in the mood to write stuff anyways soā¦. Hereās some details on what āmy Zaunā would be like if I actually fully wrote it out/went properly canon divergent.
First, hereās some stuff in no particular order Iāve written before Here, Here, Here, Here, Here, and Here. Now I could probably turn this into a 3 post long essay, but letās try to just hit the more important points.
A lot of the vendors, and merchants, and shop keepers, and people that fish or collect mushrooms or other ācommonā professions have a guild/union. The reason is simple. First, itās a tradition left over from the Mining Days. Second, the vast majority of individual people in Zaun donāt have the money to order needed supplies from outside of Zaun. Itās easier, and over all cheaper for them to put their money together and order good to be shipped in. It can be as something like reliable iron stock to mix with their own less high quality stuff to craft fishing harpoons, or getting sufficient amounts of spices that they canāt grow enough of for certain foods, or wool from outside for clothing, or whatever else. Generally people are either part of a guild, rich, or run a small unique personal business that can get everything it needs from inside of Zaun. There are exceptions, but thatās generally how it works. The good part of this is the guilds and unions do help their members. The bad part is thereās varying levels of corruption, because Zaun and Iām not trying to make things āperfect and niceā, so money does get pulled out for other less ānobleā reasons and also if you are trying to compete with them thereās a chance your business going to get burned down. Generally, the younger the leadership the more corrupt, but even with the ones that are the āmostā corrupt the benefits still out weigh the negatives...for now.
((under cut for length))
Most people no longer care about Shimmer in terms of trying to get rid of because itās become such an accepted part of life. Before anyone says anything, YES there are people that want it gone. Most of those people are people that used to be addicts, or grew up around addicts, or have had lots of bad experiences with it, or grew up in a part of Zaun that was too poor to see any of the benefits and just the bad things, or have a personal grudge. Yes the Firelights exist, and yes they can/do recruit. For a lot of people though theyāve seen Shimmer become a major part of Zaun life, and culture over the past 7-10 years and they just canāt be bothered to care. Some of them itās because they are too busy trying to live their life, and get along with their own business. Some of them itās because a family member has a prosthetic that relies on shimmer and chem-tech to function. Some of them Shimmer helped keep someone alive through a sickness until they regained their strength. Thereās a multitude of reasons. With that said no Shimmer is not purely a good thing. There are issues, there are addicts, there is crime and murder because of it. It is simply not purely a bad thing either, and has became a regularly accepted part of life in most parts of Zaun.
There are chem-barons, and gangs and they all have their territories and various ways of money. However not everyone is part of a gang. A decent amount of people are just, for lack of a better way to put it, civilians getting on with their life. Yes they live within the territory of one gang/chem-baron or another, but they donāt claim any kind of membership. A lot of those people are on the out skirts of crime, but not directly involved. Some times they have to worry about a gang fight in the middle of the street, or paying protection money, or getting mugged in an alleyway or whatever but they try to just mind their business. Most of the time so long as they are respectful, donāt interfere with things, pay what they are asked to, and mind their business they are more or less left alone. Why? Because the gangs donāt produce daily goods, food, clothing, and the like. They need the ānormalā people, and they understand that after a certain point⦠well letās put it like this. Itās one thing to take down a couple of cows or whatever else. Itās another thing to stand in front of a herd of animals that have decided to panic and start charging in a particular direction to trample you. Plus the ānormalā people spend money with them. Drugs, prostitution, gambling, and the like. Are any of those things actually illegal in Zaun? No. However the gangs/etc control it because they want to and thatās one thing that will get a person killed. Trying to move in on their businesses. Also loan sharking, and the like. Pay. Your. Debts. Other wise you will get a visit you do NOT want. Just because the gangs āgenerallyā donāt mess with civilians does NOT mean itās safe to ignore them, or to think you can take advantage of them.
Continuing on from the chem-barons, and gangs. Most people donāt know what the chem-barons actually do besides from general descriptions. Thereās stories about the mistress of the brothels Margot. The buzzing slickjaw Finn whose people have a tendency to be violent. The shadowed figure in the Last Drop Silco who everyone knows not to disrespect and who brought Shimmer to the front of things. However most people donāt know specifics, and once again donāt really care unless they are actually involved with a business that connects them to the chem-barons. As a note, the person Vi gets information from at the brothel, Babette I believe, had information because she runs the brothel and is connected to the chem-barons and gangs because of that. Sheās involved in that life, and Sevika visits that brothel, and so yes that still makes sense.
This is starting to get long and I donāt want to go too much deeper into things, but letās touch on certain notes.
Jinx was used surprisingly precisely. Silco had specific targets in mind, most of them were either involved in the criminal aspect of his life or had interfered to an unaccepted extent in other aspects. Jinx got sent to handle them because she was very good at it, and she wanted to be of help. He didnāt always share the reasons with Jinx, but there was always a reason that made sense to him (Iām not saying it was a good or healthy reason) for sending her. She was also his ace in the hole, and one of the reasons people that know who he really is and what he is capable of are afraid of him. Sevika gets sent as a warning, and is relatively reasonable although sheās entirely capable of killing you. Silco, depending on why he is there and his mood can be reasoned with as well. When Jinx shows up however you are going to die, and probably not just you but also the people around you. Jinx is there to make an example of you, and remind people of the monsters in their midst and that Zaun push come to shove is not a safe place.
Silco is not personally involved in street level distribution of Shimmer. He controls large shipments, and top level stuff. Those shipments get handed to other chem-barons, and other people who are important/large enough to handle relatively large quantities. He does also claim sole access to Piltover for the purpose of delivering and selling Shimmer to dealers up there. Heās not actually the only one taking shimmer up there because thereās always multiple routes up, but heās the one that pushes the most up there.
With Silco taking over Zaunās population has actually started to increase (which yes has itās good points and itās bad points) because heās deliberately cultivated certain relationships, and with the money from shimmer has dry good food stuffs shipped in such as rice thatās stable and easy to transport in bulk. The effect of that has started to become more evident in the last 3-4 years with more infants being born, and also surviving their first couple of years as well as less people ending up on the streets starving to death. This is both because he does truly want Zaun to be better, and also because if you want a decent revolution you need a population that can actually fight.
Final notes.
Singed is not the only doctor.
Zaun has it's own tradition of folk lore and home medicine remedies.
And I still love the idea of (my) Silco, and perhaps (my) Jinx, being trans but that's it's own thing so eh.
"What the Fuck is Up With That?": People from Zaun seeing better (than average) in the dark
So obligatory, this is just in my Zaun, doesnāt have to apply to others, etc.etc.
This is one of the first shots we get of Zaun proper and The Lanes.
Now is it always dark like this? No. This is set at night. Also there's a shot of Silco meeting with Marcus in which Marcus states it's the first time he's been invited down to The Lanes, and it's decently lit up. However with how tall that canyon is, and the buildings and all I'd argue that normally the areas of Zaun in which most people live don't get lit up as well as someplace like Piltover. I also would say the inhabitants have deliberately embraced that for one simple reason. Their lighting. A lot of the time green is used either in night vision stuff, or in flash lights and the like for night time usage while hiking and the like because it's easier to see with green light during low light situations without ruining your night vision. This has a bit of an explanation if you want.
To me that says not only does Zaun generally have a lower light setting than topside, but that the people of Zaun use that to their advantage. Not against each other a whole lot because all of them can see decently, but against Pilties and Outsiders that visit Zaun. It's a lot easier to pickpocket, mug, cheat, scam, or whatever else someone when their eyes are adjusting to a whole new lighting situation. Particularly as Zaun has a tendency to use green, and other colors as well.
In a way the entire core of Zaun is a deliberate expression of "fuck you for making our environment hostile now we are going to make it more hostile for you whenever you come down here" to me. Now the important thing here is that this how they grow up. They get used to these conditions, and their eyes become accustomed to it. They are used to blues, greens, reds and all of those are easier to see particularly in the conditions they live in. However because they are used to those conditions their eyes take a lot less time to adjust, and more often than not are already adjusted to darkness. When they go up topside though they have to take a bit more time to let their eyes adjust to the brightness, and some (my Silco) can be susceptible to migraines and the like.
I could go on, but basically what it comes down to is a cultural thing. Piltover is brightly lit with whites, and golds, and has lots of sunlight and everything so... to hell with them "we" will do the opposite, and deliberately create a confusing hard to navigate and handle environment for whenever they come down. It gives people from Zaun a distinct art style, and usage of color while also spitting in Piltover's face and incidentally makes it so Zaunites generally see better at low light because they are so used to it.
Depending on how long Zaun has been around you could also argue that the people that live there actually have started to get a small physical change to their eyes that literally makes them see better in low light. Which I do personally like the idea of that being part of things. However it's also still a cultural thing regardless.
TLDR: People in my Zaun see better in low light conditions because I find it an interesting idea, and another way to separate Zaun from Piltover.
We all talk about how polluted and toxic Zaun is, but I feel like something gets lost with that.
Zaun has
It's own unique
Ecosystem and sources of food
In it's rivers, and
The sea.
I neither have the energy, nor mindset right now to say a whole lot about this. I just wanted to point out that they A: probably have a population of fishers that use boats to get enough seafood to feed everyone, B: There's life in the undercity rivers and the surrounding ocean, C: Even a street vendor who either has cheap enough food for Vi to buy fresh out of prison, or is willing to give it to her for free has what looks like garlic.
Lactose intolerance is a common thing in (my) Zaun due to lack of diary products in general. There is some diary but it's generally used to cook other dishes with to maximize what can be done with it. Normally it's used for baked goods and similar things, but no heavy creamy dishes.
Jinx, and Silco are both lactose intolerant and try not to eat cheese and the like.
Sevika is mildly lactose intolerant, and if you give her a dairy product will deny it and eat the entire thing. Yes she will eat that entire thing of ice cream in one go and than claim she got food poisoning from a bad fish earlier that day or the night before.

It's really interesting to me that this song has been around since 1931 (possibly 1912 and updated in 31 by the writer), was originally written by a woman (Florence Reece), and was written (Updated) because of the Harlan County War which was part of the "Coal wars" between miners trying to get decent working conditions and mine operators/nation guard/strike breakers. Just, there used to be SUCH a big thing about workers conditions and unions and all.
There's reasons I associate Silco so much with mining stuff.
So me being interested in small details went looking at ages, and noticed a few things.
Silco is roughly four years (give or take a year in either direction) younger then Vander. Sevika is about 5 years younger than Silco so nine years younger than Vander. Most of the chem barons besides from Renni are either noticeably younger than Silco (or in the case of Chross much older), and Marcus is about ten years younger. Why does this matter?ā¦
I donāt think most people currently operating in Zaun or Piltover remember how things used to be anymore and those that do have enough money and power built up to have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo. I donāt think Silco has any true peers he works with in terms of experience, age, personal convictions, and the like. Whatever connection Renni may have used to have with things sheās obviously lost after being more concerned with profits, and throwing in her lot with Finn. Sevika probably is one of the few people still operating that fought in the same conflicts that Vander did (besides from Silco of course), and Silco finds himself moving more and move into the status of letās call it⦠the old guard, the OG, the āold manā who built things but now others want him gone.
In my opinion it says a lot that Finn says āI thought now hereās a man who knows how to run an enterprise, but timeās lapped you old manā while Silco has always talked about the Free Nation of Zaun. Finn is a good fifteen years younger than Silco. Finn is used to relative peace with Vander, and then business and profit with Silco. The idea of a Free Nation isnāt there for the simple reason Finn has the power and money he wants. What does he care about the others? Meanwhile Silco, hates him and the other chem-barons. Thereās a reason he deliberately says āNow Iām forced to share the air with parasites like you who leech off their legacies.ā
Silco respects the brothers and sisters of Zaun, and the people he fought alongside with back in the day. He knows Zaun wouldnāt be anything without their struggle, and that Finn and the others wouldnāt have the power or money or influence they have without that struggle. Silco doesnāt know their history he lived it⦠and heās one of the last people who truly knows, remembers, and lived what happened. Silco lives, and breathes Zaun while being forced to share the air and power⦠with parasites who have no true understanding of whatās important and who leech off of the struggles of those who came before.
It makes me wonder if Silco had a blind spot. The blind spot being how much Zaun changed under Vander because of that relative peace, and how the younger generation didnāt have the same drive and need for freedom so long as they had some form of prosperity for themselves. Maybe his blind spot led him to pick chem-barons who had a drive to succeed yes, but not to drive things forward the way Silco needed because they just donāt. See. The. Need.
How alone and frustrated does Silco feel with so many others having left The Cause, or never having been in it and here he is trying to still direct things so that Zaun can ultimately be free and have the opportunity the daughters and sons of Zaun deserve?
Here are the trained enforcers Jayce brought with him specifically for a raid on a shimmer factory in Zaun unable to land a shot. An operation that logically should have had some of the most effective combatants there, and they were utterly helpless before the chem-tanks.
Imagine one person in a chem-tank running around Piltover, and the damage that could do.
