Hector doesnāt seem angry or even exasperated when hit with a random projectile -- rather, heās amused if anything, and Ephraim breathes a sigh of relief. Rarely did anyone other than Innes (or his sister) ever witness him slipping in dignity, and heās usually reprimanded when it does happen. Having his antics laughed off is honestly the best possible outcome.
āWell, creative certainly is more flattering than a lot of other adjectivesĀ you could have used,ā Ephraim says with a lopsided smile.Ā āAnd Iām not too easily upset. If I had been, I probably wouldnāt have thrown chocolate.ā Too late he wonders if the statement sounds like a threat rather than the straightforward way he had intended to come across. At the very least, somewhere out there Innes can be grateful Ephraim doesnāt consider him a real threat. (Or perhaps that would just serve to offend him further...)Ā āMaybe Iām the one who should be worried, if so many people have it out for you.ā
As though a fire has been lit within him, Ephraim perks up at the mere mention of a contest.Ā The word itself has conditioned him to tense up and get ready for battle, though a fighting stance probably wonāt help him shovel candy into his face any faster.
Eirika would definitely advise me against this.Ā In his mind he pictures his sister scolding him after he inevitably makes himself sick and regrets his decision, but even the image of the inevitable outcome isnāt enough to dissuade him from a good-natured competition.Ā āI suppose itās only fair that I accept your challenge, since I did make the first move, after all.ā Ephraim pauses, casting his eyes to the sky for a beat to muse upon the nature of their battle.Ā āI donāt have enough chocolate on me right now to warrant a contest,ā he admits after the lull.Ā āIf we eat everything in sight thatās supposed to be shared amongst everyone, we might end up making enemies for real.ā
