David Hollander appreciation post. I started a reheat yesterday and cannot stop thinking about this man. I think he is the only one who really knows Shane. He doesn't care about all this hockey stuff. Yuna handles that enough for the both of them. He seems to be the one, as subtle as it is, that cares most about Shane's wellbeing.
And none of that is a dig at Yuna. She just has a different way of caring. She wants him to be set for life. She's translating her care into making him successful in that way. So, she's got much more on her plate when it comes to Shane. Most of their interactions seem to be more like mini business meetings. But because of all that, David just gets to be his dad. He gets to sit back and watch Shane be Shane and take in his actual reactions to things. He can probably read him and understand him better than anyone else. Probably even better than Ilya, but mostly because David's had a lot more years of experience.
And while in the book David tells Yuna what he saw at the cottage, I think show-version David would have kept that secret until the end of time if Shane hadn't come over to explain himself. Maybe he would have talked to Shane about it at some point, but he would have kept it from Yuna. He would have kept this information from his own wife if Shane asked him to. Or seemed uncomfortable with her knowing.
Yall my daddy issues are acting weird when I’m watching the last of us.
I just want Joel to be my dad
I’m such a dad I longingly looked at my grilling pan and said to my mom “can’t wait for summer so I can grill again”
