Imagine Ratchet at some point before Optimus tries to talk with him actually telling June. He knows he promised not to but he just needs to be honest with her. It’s at a time when she swings by to say hello but almost everyone else is gone. The only one there is Raf, but he went to wander the halls of the base so he probably won’t overhear.

Ratchet telling June that he and Optimus are conjunxes but at this point he won’t be surprised if Op ends up leaving him. Asking that she make him happy if he does return her interest, because that’s all he wants. He wants his love to be happy. Even if it isn’t with him.

June feeling terrible, not just because she had no idea but because Ratchet does genuinely care so much. She doesn’t press on the issue though, instead changing the subject to talk about work and ask what he’s been doing. Idle conversation because they never talked much. And she realizes that… he’s really great, actually. As much as he’s a grump she also gets it. She can get that way too sometimes, and with the constant pressure he’s under keeping everyone safe it probably wears on him.

Meanwhile Raf had decided to keep his distance and not interrupt but he does call Jack to let him know he thinks Jack’s mom has maybe switched targets from Optimus to Ratchet, and also to ask Optimus if he and Ratchet are really married.
