summary: of all the beautiful sights in the world, wen junhui just might be your favorite
a/n: i sincerely want to wish our junnie a happy (belated hhhhh im sorry) birthday!! i am so proud of how much youβve grown, not only as an artist but as a person as well <3
You had always known that dating someone as beautiful as Wen Junhui would ultimately be the death of you.
It was almost picture-perfect, the way he hovered above you with shining irises and sinfully beautiful lips stealing as much affection from you as they dared. They started out slowly, playfully, against your ear. Junhui even giggled between his repetitive kisses in an effort to make you smile. And, of course, it worked; the two of you shared a lovestruck bout of giggles, with you kicking the blankets off of his bed, squirming and laughing while his soft lips pecked at you mercilessly. For a moment, the both of you almost forgot about the small party downstairs, about the last moments of sunlight slipping through the cracks in Junhuiβs curtains, about the desperate way he gripped your waist as he thanked you profusely for the effort you put into making his birthday special.
Almost, because as the setting sun tinged the bedroom a delicate shade of pink, his playful lips brushed against your earlobe, catching your breath in your throat, and suddenly the world stopped spinning. You truly couldnβt help but notice your current predicamentβhis body hovered over yours as you laid back against his pillowsβand you knew the realization had hit him as well when his childish grin soon morphed into something even more mischievous. Before you had time to comment, however, he kissed you again, much slower this time, allowing his lips to map out the delicate skin of your neck and savor in the reactions that he pulled from you. Which is why, when his teeth ever-so-slightly grazed your neck between kisses, the shiver that coursed through you instantly mesmerized him. He wanted even more, so long as you would let him.
βJunhui,β you gasped, partially out of playfulness and partially due to the way your heart raced whenever there was hardly any space between the two of you. Β βDid you justβ¦bite me?β
A cheeky laugh, followed by a whisper against your skin. βMaybe.β He paused, and you could feel the beginnings of a deep blush dust your cheeks. You found his lips brushing gently against your collarbone as he spoke, and his voice lost that lovely lilt of impishness, picking up an air of shameless flirtation instead. βDid, uhmβ¦did you like it?β
You didnβt quite know how to respond to such a brazen question, especially since his fingertips danced delicately over your jaw and bottom lip as he pulled away to stare down at you. You honestly didnβt think he was trying to be cocky; his cinnamon locks flopped haphazardly in front of his hazel eyes that sought your approval. If anything, he looked beautifully innocent, topped off with a shy giggle that hinted at slight embarrassment. Yet another one of those breathtaking sights that occured much too often when you were around Wen Junhui, although you never quite found yourself getting used to them.
βI dunno.β You finally settled on a timid answer while your fingers combed through his messy locks. Like a puppy, he melted into your touch, and only after you tugged on his hair slightly did his eyes flutter back open to witness his boldness rubbing off on you. βI think you might have to try again so I can really be sure.β You chuckled despite the obvious intent of your words.
And thatβs when he offered you one of his soft smiles, the kind where the beauty of the galaxies themselves breaks out amongst his features, and buried his face between the pillows and your neck to leave painfully slow kisses along your sensitive skin.
Junhui never moved at a fast pace; upon your introduction, the poor boy quite literally hid behind his own hands out of sheer self-consciousness. That day he only spoke to you when his entire face was covered, later explaining that he didnβt want you to see how affected he was by your attractiveness. Once you officially started dating, it took weeks for the deep blush that painted his cheeks whenever you held his hand to subside, and even then the action was typically followed by awkward giggles on his part. These reasons, combined with the general knowledge of Junhuiβs sensitive and goofy nature, led you to believe that you would always have to make the first move. Your three-month dating history with him had done nothing but support this hypothesis.
Which is why you were more than surprised when you suddenly found Junhuiβs lips sucking needy hickies into your collarbone and an encouraging knee jutted between your legs for the smallest amount of friction.
Making-out with your boyfriend was not a foreign concept, but it normally occurred with an air of uncertainty and ended when Junβs nerves got the better of him. Tonight, however, as the beginning traces of dusk settled on Junhuiβs sleepy country home, his tender hands enamored you with their gentle exploration of your bodyβslipping gently from your cheeks down your sides, lightly tracing the curve of your body before shyly resting on your waistβand you melted into his magnetic pull. Tonight, everything felt just right, illuminated in the light of contradiction. Junhui was assured, yet careful. Intense, yet gentle. All-consumingly passionate and lazily peaceful all rolled into one confusing, wonderful package.
And even though the sun had already dipped below the horizon, Junhui borrowed the deep purples and blues from the sky to paint confessions of want against your skin. Permanent reminders of his love, he would later call them with a shy giggle, although truly it didnβt matter what cute nickname he gave them; you knew exactly what they were, and the memory of how they got there would always leave you with a deep blush and heated skin.
βWow,β you breathed much later, after the rush of adrenaline had passed, leaving the two of you to stare at each other with intertwined fingers and gazes shimmering with admiration. Jun still hovered above you, with his honey-brown hair now disheveled due to your greedy hands and his lips swollen and slick from kisses. Truly, he looked as beautiful as ever, and for a moment you wondered if he would allow you to capture a picture of him like this, just so you could preserve the image forever. βWen Junhui.β You found yourself unable to withhold your thoughts; his named slipped easily from your lips, which were tugged into a cheesy grin. βYou truly are a masterpiece.β
The boy only shook his head in denial and responded with the ever-so mature and clever, βNo, you are.β But you could tell by his rose-dusted cheeks that he believed what he was saying with a ferocity. You had no choice but to indulge in his sincerity as Junhui tenderly kissed your knuckles. He could never refrain from giggling anytime his lips met your skin so wholesomely, which you viewed as yet another reason why you loved him so unfathomably much. βIn fact, youβre so beautiful that sometimes I think Iβm gonna die from looking at you.β His eyes widened comically, as if to further exaggerate the urgency of his point, and his head flopped down onto the pillow next to you.
βFunny,β you muttered, ruffling his hair to draw a playful smile from his now-sleepy lips.Β βI was thinking the exact same thing...β
β summary:Β junhui finally understands why people enjoy singing in the rain
Junhui figured he heard the rain before you had, partly because he knew his senses always seemed to be heightened whenever he was around you, and partly because he hadnβt seen the light bulb flicker to life behind your eyes, nor had he been endeared by the beautiful way you smiled whenever the sky darkened and everyone recluded to the safety of their homes. Junhui knew that you loved the rain for some odd reason, but he was one of the only people who didnβt scoff or look at you with confusion whenever you were delighted by the sounds of the spring drizzle tapping against the windows. In fact, sometimes he wished the blue skies would turn grey whenever he was around, just so you would excitedly clutch onto his arm while he smiled awkwardly. Another thing that Junhui knew, coincidentally, was that everything he did around you was executed in an awkward manner, but he couldnβt really help that. Not when the girl with sunshine dancing in her stormy eyes was enthusing to him while peering out the window longingly.Β
For all of these reasons and more, Junhuiβs heart leapt into his throat whenever your gaze snapped up to meet his.
βJunieeee,β you dragged the nickname out in a whine, hopping up from the floor and raced to the window with a smile.Β βLook!βΒ
He couldnβt even see your face, but he could picture the way it crinkled in delight as you placed your forehead against the cool glass. He bit his lip, trying and failing to hide his wide, lovestruck grin as he glanced up from his chemistry book.Β
You turned around to look at him with pleading eyes, and Junhui felt his breath hitch in his throat.Β βCan we go out? Just for a bit?β You hastily made your way over to him, tightly grabbing his forearm as he wrote down formulas.Β βTen minutes. Please please please?β
Junhui sighed, peeking over at your precalculus notebook that was resting on the table beside him. He would be an awful tutor if he allowed you to ditch your work, especially since you hadnβt gotten much done, but who was he to say no when you were looking at him like that, when all the blood had rushed to the spot where your skin touched his?Β βY-yeah, sure. Let me get my coat.β
Droplets of water clung to your eyelashes, and you walked backwards so that you could face Junhui while discussing the homework that you had barely started on. To be fair, Jun could barely get any of his assignments completed either, not when he was enthralled by the way you tapped your pencil against your lips whenever you thought or the way you hummed sweetly to yourself whenever you subconsciously decided it was too quiet. And now he could hardly focus on walking straight, for your wet hair was clinging to your cheeks as they stretched into dazzling smile. In that moment, Junhui decided that you were the most beautiful girl in your entire school and maybe even the entire universe, at which thought Junhui visibly cringed due to its stupidity.
βAre you even listening to me?β you scoffed at him, turning around and slowly falling into step beside him.
βMhm,β he lied as the heat rushed to his face.
βJun!β You pinched his ear with a chuckle.Β βYouβre lying!βΒ
His ears were his tell, and you had figured that out a while ago. Although Junhui could usually keep a straight face if he concentrated hard enough, his ears always turned red whenever he lied.Β βSorry. I was just thinking a lot. Iβll listen this time, I promise.β
You clicked your tongue in disapproval.Β βTsk tsk. What is going on inside that head of yours, Wen Junhui?βΒ
This time, his entire face turned red with your question.Β βJ-just, you know, running formulas Still thinking about my Chemistry assignment and that project that weββ
βSure,β you cut him off, and it was only then that he realized you were shivering as the rain splattered against your bare arms. You werenβt wearing a jacket, he noted, and without a second thought, Jun shrugged off his own, receiving a puzzled glance from you.Β βWhat are you doing? Itβs c-cold.βΒ
βI know,β he muttered before draping his warm jacket over your shoulders.Β βYouβre shivering. Why didnβt you bring your own?β
He watched his oversized jacket rise and fall as you shrugged your shoulders.Β βI donβt know, really.β You looked up at the sky.Β βI just got too excited, I guess.β He felt your hand brush against his as your steps slipped into a slower pace, and goosebumps accompanied the raindrops that tickled his skin. The air smelled of wet earth combined with the intoxicating scent of your shampoo that followed you around everywhere you went. He wanted to get closer, to allow the scent and everything else that followed to simply consume him.Β
The two of you came to a stop on the sidewalk with nothing but the sound of the rain and Junhuiβs racing heart buzzing in his ears. You were stunning with the rain kissing your cheeks, and he was slightly envious of the droplets as they danced around your lips. His jacket was far too large on you, a fact that only made his shy smile shine brighter. It was raining hard, but Junhui couldnβt care lessβlightning could strike the very spot where you stood and Junhuiβs eyes would never leave your features.Β
βJunhui.β You breathed his full name into the misty air, a sound that he rarely got the pleasure of hearing fall from your lips. Not that he disliked the nickname you had given himβJun, because βthe way that you laugh reminds me of summer. Of June,β you had explained to himβbut the way you said his whole name made his heart soar and his hands clammy.Β Β
He couldnβt stand it anymore. βYouβre beautiful,β he responded brazenly, like ripping off a band-aid, but his eyes searched your face for some sort of reaction. He flinched when your eyes filled with an unidentifiable emotion, and he opened his mouth to apologize for crossing the invisible line that the two of you had been dancing ever since he met you when you began to speak.
βFunny,β you looked down with a chuckle, tucking your dampened hair behind your ear.Β βBecause I was just about to say the same to you.β
The relief that flooded over Junhuiβs face was immediate, and you giggled in the most adorable way in response, sliding on up to your tiptoes and planting a soft kiss on his cheek.Β βWhy donβt we go back?β you whispered as you pulled away, and Junhui opened his half-lidded eyes to find yours staring right back. He shook his head, for he was terrified that if you went back, everything else would revert back to they way it was before when Junhui would simply steal glances and blush whenever your skin accidentally brushed against his. Instead he moved closer, stood taller, planted his feet further into the ground.
βBut I wanna stay...β he confessed with a small smile, and his shaky fingers found your dripping locks, combing through them gently. He saw you nod along with his words, confidence swelling within his heart as he watched you become mesmerized by his words. He was surprised by himselfβsurprised by his boldness, by the way he articulated his thoughts so smoothly when, normally, he would trip over his tongue. He decided that he could be bold once more, take one more jump today and pray to stick the landing.
So as he listened to the pitter-patter of the rain against the sidewalk, Junhui kissed you softly, slowly. He wrapped his arms around your waist, pulling you as close to him as he could while still believing that it wasnβt close enough.
