Just this year the Canadian government announced that Jumbo Valley would become an Indigenous protected area, maintained by the Ktunaxa Nation. They say it is home to the grizzly bear spirit, and is therefore a sacred space. That seems an understatement as to why this place deserved to be protected. . This land has been fought over, largely, since developers began to plan for a resort village of ski lifts and commodities back in 2012. An arduous battle to protect a place of unprecedented beauty and history, with a fortunate outcome due to perseverance of people who could see the importance of leaving things as we found them. . We should all feel grateful places like this remain protected. It’s a true joy to walk amongst the peaks and valleys here. 🙏 .
