Julius was used as a tool. Altena was used as a tool. While Altena's relationship to Travant is far more complex than simply tool/subject or even father/daughter, there is a theme within this tragedy of a complex family heritage coupled to upend an oppression. Julius is much the same albeit harsher, the total negation of his agency as a human as well as the Loptian's desire to restore their old class position. I think a lot about how these two are in a way, inside a living hell. Julius regaining his agency and learning to be human again. And Altena who suffered to restore Thracia realizing that she in a way a hollowed shell of war yearning for the love that her adoptive father struggled to achieve.

My thanks to @zantetsukennn for making this Jultena piece. Their smiles are so warm and radiant.

@royaltyjunk started it and I was really hooked into it. They have these fairly unique qualities of complicated family, both were used as tools for another's ambition, and infanticide being weirdly present in both their backstories. I am moved by the idea of two people have very similar shared characteristics, finding mutual love and growth, given their respective hangups surviving trauma.
