Regis Prograis vs Julius Indongo (03-09-2018)

The World Boxing Super Series Super Lightweight tournament is underway. Kiryl Relikh was the first to make it out the first round, taking a decision over Eduard Troyanovsky in the beginning of October. 

Super Lightweight Regis Prograis (22-0, 19 KOs) will be looking to become the first American to win one of these tournaments. With Mikey Garcia going back down to 135lbs, Prograis is currently considered the top 140lber on the planet. He’s been tearing through opponents of late, stopping his last 7 opponents including boxers like Julius Indongo and Joel Diaz Jr.

Regis Prograis continues to rise stopping former unified champion Julius Indongo, to claim WBC 140lb. Interim Belt

DEADWOOD, SD -  Regis "Rougarou" Prograis (21-0, 18 KOs) made a bold statement stopping former unified champion Julius "Blue Machine" Indongo (22-2, 11 KOs) in two rounds in Deadwood, South Dakota. 

From the opening bell, Prograis looked to establish himself as the aggressor pressing forward, and attempting to negate Indongo's height and reach advantages. Indongo had some early success using his length and jab to establish distance, keeping Prograis at the end of his wide looping punches, but a late combination caught Indongo, dropping him at the end of the first round. The second round saw Prograis go on the attack and press forward landing several hard body shots which hurt Indongo and would later in the round set up a left-hand shot which would drop him. He was able to return to his feet, but was clearly hurt. Prograis reset and dropped Indongo again with yet another left-hand shot which Indongo was able to get up from as well. As the action continued, Prograis wasted no time dropping another big shot on Indongo prompting the referee to step in and stop the contest.

With the impressive victory, Regis Prograis is now the WBC Super Lightweight Interim Champion and will face the winner between Jose Carlos Ramirez (21-0, 16 KOs) and Amir Imam (21-1, 18 KOs) taking place on March 17, 2018, at Madison Square Garden in New York City.  The winner of that fight will be crowned the WBC Super Lightweight Champion. 

Prograis showed a lot of patience early, and the ability to close a fight when he finds his range. He has proven at this point to be an exciting fighter who loves to fight and wants the big challenges. It will be interesting to see how he progresses as the challenges get more intense. So far, so good...
