The Juice Well
A few months ago, I discovered the wonders of drinking green juice. Ever since, I've tried and tested multiple recipes and scoured juice bars all over London, trying to find the best blend.
Amongst the hustle and bustle of the Soho nightclubs is the Juice Well, an aptly named shop dedicated to cold-pressed juice. Naturally, everything on the menu is raw, vegan and organic.
The bottled juices are coded by a numerical/rainbow system which adds to the excitement and confusion of choosing. I ended up reading the ingredients of each individual blend to pick the ones I wanted to try. In addition to juices, there are various milks, tonics, shots and waters; all labelled with their health benefits, although I'm dubious of how a drink can be "invigorating."
I went for the Pinamour, (pineapple, mint, aniseed), and the Green & Lean (kale, spinach, celery, apple, lemon, cucumber, watercress). The Pinamour was palatable, but the I found the Green & Lean too bitter to the taste. I'm used to the residual bitter aftertaste, as is natural from green juices, but I found it too overpowering in this case. Perhaps health juice is purely for consumption and not for enjoyment.
The Juice Well also serves a selection of vegan nibbles, most notably the raw peanut butter cups, which were absolutely delicious. I would definitely go back again to try the other drinks, perhaps not the green ones, and to satisfy my guilt-free peanut butter cup cravings. After all, if they're raw and vegan, they must be healthy.
