what do you know about judaization? Christian communities who decided to become jewish, I mean?
Judaization can mean a couple of things, but in this context yes, absolutely! So for anyone who may not know, Judaization occurs when non-Jewish populations or individuals assimilate into Jewish culture or convert to Judaism.
This happening on a broad scale is rare, because it is rare for Jews to make up such a large portion of either the population or those in power in a given land (particularly a Christian one) to encourage or create the conditions that would lead to Judaization. That said, there are a couple proposed examples of this, though scholars disagree on both to varying extents:
First, the Ethiopian Church. Given the history of the region and the past presence of a sovereign Jewish kingdom there, combined with the traditions and practice of the Church (which include some of the restrictions placed upon Jews by Tanakh, such as dietary restrictions and manner of dress for religious purposes and niddah) and the origin story of the Solomonic Christian dynasty of Ethiopia, some scholars have suggested that the Ethiopian Church is a Judaized form of Christianity. That said, and it is important to note, the Church objects to this characterization and says the only influence on the Church is Christianity.
Second, the Khazars of the Caucus region. Now, before I get into that, I am going to say outright: modern Jews, including the Ashkenazim, are generally not the descendants of the Khazars. No serious scholar or geneticist suggests that we are. So let’s just get out in front of that antisemitic bullshit. (Not aimed at you, @antioch-actius, I’m preempting folks who claim the Ashkenazim are “fake Jews.”)
The Khazars were a confederation of semi-nomadic Turkic tribes that created a multi-ethnic multi-religion empire in what is now Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan. Their massive empire, built on wealth acquired through commercial trade, included Christians, pagans, Muslims, Jews, and Tengrists. Around the 9th Century CE the rulers of the Khazars and some portion (how much is disputed) of the nobility converted to rabbinic Judaism. There are a few speculated reasons as to why, the most common being that it was an assertion of their independence from Christian Byzantium and the Muslim Caliphate that bordered them on either side. The Khazars largely converted back to Christianity in the 10th-13th centuries.
So those are two examples of potential Judaization of formerly Christian peoples. It’s important to note that, whether either or both of those examples is historically accurate, Judaization is very different from the Christian appropriation of Jewish terms and practices for use by Christian groups (Hebrew Christians, Messianics, Black Hebrew Israelites, etc). That isn’t Judaization, because they aren’t assimilating into Jewish culture, but is instead the appropriation of individual rites, names, and practices for a people and a culture that remains fundamentally Christian.
Hopefully that answered your question at least somewhat, and if not, reach out and I’ll see how so can fill in the gaps.

150 shekels
Monday, August 26, 2013
I woke up my first morning living in Ramallah and had breakfast with the friend whose apartment I'm staying in. While eating, he told me that the Israeli police had impounded his friend's car in Jerusalem the day before. Why? Because his friend had not paid 150 shekels ($40 USD) of his TV bill. 150 shekels.
I had heard that Israeli border police will threaten to impound Palestinian cars at checkpoints for outstanding bills and asked my friend if this was the case for his friend. No, he said, the Jerusalem police were going around scanning the license plates of parked cars in the city. It might need to be said that my friend and his friend are both Palestinian. This incident is just one of many in which the Israeli government tries to intimidate Palestinians to leave Jerusalem, as part of a plan to "Judaize" the city.
My last post was about the discrepancy in municipal services Israel provides to its Jewish and Palestinian residents.
