Joe is the most loving person to ever live. His heart is genuinely close to bursting due to the love he has for everyone. He's even cried in people's arms before over how much he loves them.
Cub had never been really loved until he joined the hermits. All he knew about love was that it was something people claimed to get people to do stuff for them.
Needless to say, Cub was astounded after his first meeting with Joe. Receiving unconditional love does something to a man, and Joe has a lot of love to give.
Cub kept Joe at an arms distance for a little while, which was difficult for Joe but he understood. Part of loving somebody is respecting boundaries, after all!
But once Cub was ready for Joe and the love he gave? There was no stopping him.
