i’m thinking about the end of greywaren when everyone is reunited at the barns, where jordeclan come back from a drive and pull up to see a bright orange camaro parked out front. jordan asks him, “who’s that?” and declan says, “ronan’s best friend.” they go into the house and declan is immediately wrapped up in a hug and jordan thinks she hears some french—mon dieu. gansey is emotional—he almost lost his lynch boys—and angry—his friends lied to him, didn’t ask for his help—and he is telling this to declan, raging and emotional. declan is soft, holding on, telling gansey they’re all okay, it’s all over, and wincing at the pain in his side. someone mentions declan’s been shot and gansey jumps back, frantic—why’d you let me hug you, etc.—and then he remembers his manners and introduces himself to jordan. all formalities and handshakes and flattery—it’s a pleasure, i’ve heard so much about you—and jordan doesn’t think this is ronan’s friend afterall.
