wow!!! the sky was truly such a beautiful sight to see on my drive to class early this morning! I was so in awe of God’s creation I had to pull over in my neighborhood to capture it! as I was driving I also listened to a new podcast I discovered! It was all about how comparison can be the thief of joy & man oh man is that true!! I know it’s easier said than done but it’s so freeing when we ask God to release us from those chains that are holding us in the bitterness and judgement that come along with comparison. but I want to remind you WE are God’s CREATION. He literally sent His one & only son to die on a cross so that we may live & live out His purpose for our lives! He wants us, He calls us by name, and He loves us so much that He died for our sins!!! We are all beautiful, unique and special. and I know in today’s world it’s really easy to get caught up in measuring ourselves to what society says is “perfect.” but today as I saw this lovely sunrise I was very much reminded of the fact that each sunset and sunrise are all a little different but does that mean one is more beautiful than the other? Not at all! The same goes for us as individuals, we’re individuals for a reason. We all have something special to bring to the table. So why don’t celebrate our uniqueness instead of acting like we’re pining after this unattainable goal of “being better than those around us.” I promise you it won’t work and all it does is drain you. So I encourage you to take time to appreciate His beauty and don’t compare yourselves to others! That just discredits God’s work in you and He doesn’t make mistakes! It was a fall night in college and I felt that icky feeling of loneliness. You know, the kind that makes you consider running back into the arms of your ex or calling up old so and so just to fill the void a bit. I had a text to an old love interest typed up. But before sending it I called my mom, and she reminded me never to open the door of your heart to a man who has no problem walking out your door. She explained to me that she pictured me with a taller guy, with light eyes and maybe a little scruff on the face. I had gotten a similar picture in my mind but hadn't shared it with anyone. When she said that, I shrieked, "are you serious?! I was thinking the same thing!" We both laughed and she told me to hang on a little while and wait for my light eyed scruffy face man to knock on my door. Three weeks later, Matt knocked on the door of my apartment. I had a weird peace about him, not butterflies, but just a deep soul rest. We dated for a few years and then two years ago today, on July 7, 2015, he flew across the country, knocked on my door again, except this time on one knee with a ring in his hand. He spent every dime of his college graduation gifts on a little ring and that's the best I could have ever asked for. He gave everything he had to make me his. I know it's tempting to settle when the lonely monster bites you in the butt. I know it's easy to keep going back to Mr. Wrong when life feels awkward and out of wack alone. But I just want to use my story to remind you that there is something better. You may not deserve but you are worth a man whose willing to knock on the door of your heart and give everything he has for you. It's not something you can earn, it's something you were already given by Christ on the cross. Why settle for anything less?
