Jordan Breen, who was regarded as one MMA media’s most brilliant minds during his time in the industry, has tragically passed away.
This one is going to sting for a while. When I first got into MMA, I was lucky enough to find the Jordan Breen and the Sherdog Radio Network. Cheap Seats, the JBS, the Roundtable, Beatdown After the Bell, and Press Row.
In a lot of ways, Breen was to MMA what Dave Meltzer is to wrestling - he had an encyclopedic knowledge of the sport whether that be the modern UFC or some obscure fight card happening in a tent in Utah. And the thing is he actually loved the sport. He covered it with an obsession, passion, energy and curiosity I have never seen in any other member. And honestly I think he got the “it” about MMA better than maybe anyone else ever has.
MMA lost Breen years ago when Sherdog Radio closed up shop but was always hoping he’d pop up again. Even if it wasn’t MMA related. Sad that his mental health seemed to deteriorate the way it did (we don’t know the actual cause of death).
But in a time where much of the good MMA media has been bought out and replaced with “influencers” and UFC mouthpieces, voices like Breen are sorely missed. If you’ve never heard it, I suggest going back and listening to old episodes of the Jordan Breen show.
RIP Jordan. I hope where ever you are now, you are at peace.
