He gave you a knowing look and you dropped your gaze to the dirt floor in embarrassment. It was one thing to be into John B and jealous of his relationship with Sarah but it was another to be so bothered that you couldn’t think clearly in actual life or death situations.

“Yeah,” John B agreed, pulling himself out of the well before extending a hand to Sarah, “we need a better plan.”

“You’re aware that you’re at the root of this, right?” 

The pogues, minus Kiara, sat on the porch of the Chateau passing a blunt back and forth while they discussed their next plan of action.

“That’s bullshit,” John B exhaled a cloud of smoke before speaking again, “I didn’t do anything wrong, Pope.”

“Are you fucking serious?” JJ piped up, “‘Your girl’ was spending every night in your bed until Sarah Cameron took her clothes off for you.”

The words ‘your girl’ hit John B like a ton of bricks. When your friends with benefits arrangement began, he said you were his when anyone got too close to you. The status of your relationship wasn’t official but the brunette had no intention of sharing you with anyone. 

“JJ it wasn’t like that,” the boys locked eyes and stared the other down until John B gave in and looked away, “you know I’d never purposely hurt her, Sarah just kind of happened.”

“I know, and so does she, but I think she needs to hear it, man. Give her closure and let’s get back to the money.”

“Where is she?” 

“On the beach with Kie, be careful.”

John B pushed himself off the couch and shoved the screen door open a little too hard. He headed toward the beach knowing that he had to deal with two women wanting to rip him to shreds.

The fire by the beach was blazing, the girls sitting on opposite sides of the flames were easy to make out. They laughed together and drank from solo cups while John B hung back out of view, trying to figure out what he would say. 

‘Your girl’ was spending every night in your bed until Sarah Cameron took her clothes off for you.

JJ wasn’t lying. John B spent countless nights taking in the scent of your shampoo as he kissed the most vulnerable parts of your body. Truth be told, you didn’t either, because you hadn’t been able to do it yet. Kiara was the only one that knew about your lingering feelings for the brunette and as kind as she tried to be to Sarah, she couldn’t help but be irritated by her presence. 

“Hey,” his voice was barely above a whisper, he cleared his throat and tried again, “hey!” 

Two sets of eyes rolled at the sight of him but he approached the fire regardless, hands up in defense. 

“I think we should talk,” John B’s gaze was trained on you, “we probably should’ve talked a long time ago.” 

“Sure, JB, let’s talk.” 

He didn’t miss the sarcasm in your voice, and he tensed when you tossed your cup of beer into the fire, sending up more flames and sparks. Kiara excused herself and headed up the chateau, leaving the two of you alone.

“I’m sorry,” John B wouldn’t meet your eyes, “i’m sorry I lied to you about Sarah. I’m sorry I didn’t end our arrangement the right way. I’m sorry for hurting your feelings. I’m sorry for everything I’ve done to ruin us.”

“Us? What are we, John B?”

“We’re friends,” the words didn’t leave his lips as solid as he’d hoped, “we’ve always been friends.”
