I love watching strongman content, and when I first got into strongman I would consume every piece of strongman media I could find. This lead me to a video that opened with a massive muscular man - more bodybuilder than strongman - deadlifting, and with the camera focused on his face the man said, "Don't be alive if you can't deadlift." That man was Jón Pull Sigmarsson, 4 times world's strongest man champion, powerlifter, and bodybuilder.
Jón Páll was one of the first, and really the only strongman to inspire me. Yes I admire men like Big Z, Brian Shaw, Oleksii Novikov, and Mateusz Kieliszkowski, but at the end of the day I view these men as obstacles to overcome. Bosses to be defeated, but Jón Páll was different. He inspired me to enjoy lifting. That strength alone was not what made someone truly great. It required just a great personality and charisma.
Not only do you need to lift heavy, but you have to truly enjoy it and make sure everyone one knows it. What a saw in Jón Páll was a man who knew he was the greatest, and showed it in both ability and personality.
