Barriger’s Clear Creek
Above are two images taken from nearly the same spot, some thirty odd years apart. This is along the Monon, and former Monon, respectively. Both show a view, looking northward, along Indiana’s own railroad, in the tiny town of Clear Creek, which is located just south of Bloomington.
The first was made in the 1940s by a photographer who traveled with the President of the line at the time, John W. Barriger III. The second was taken by myself in the mid-to late-1970s. The Louisville & Nashville had subsumed the Monon by the time I was able to photograph it.
Many elements can be seen in both images here, such as the semaphore signals as well as the depot itself—though the order board is missing in the later image. One can go to this link to see a plethora of images made along the Monon in the 1940s, a fair number from a moving train, such as the example here.
