THEY EXIST Paintings by Spencer Carmona Curated by Jascha Owens On view April 10 - May 25, 2014 Reception: Friday, April 10, 5pm - 8pm
The John Fonda Gallery at Theatre Project is pleased to announce THEY EXIST, paintings by Spencer Carmona and curated by Jascha Owens on view April 10 - May 25, 2014. A reception will be held on April 10 from 5pm - 8pm. “The making of a painting, the process, it is a sensual act. The unexpected reactions created through the mediums, the support material, and the frame is what keeps me coming back to paint. Even when structures are placed on the work, the process of making is always reactive and intuitive. This allows me the room to move within the tight parameters I have set for myself. If I were to clue the viewer in on how to experience the paintings, it would be to give them time. Time is needed to fully make distinctions between the objects themselves and then their environment. Comparing and contrasting and active looking is key to understanding the somatic nature of the experience. They are about getting people to look. They are about making distinctions. They are about making connections and the implications associated with doing so.” -Spencer Carmona Spencer Carmona is an artist living and working in Chicago, Illinois. He is currently pursuing his MFA in Painting and Drawing at the School of the Art Institute Chicago. Carmona was born in Walnut Creek, California in 1989.
