‘A Wave’ by John Ashbery, is the inspiration for Andy Mister’s series “An Invisible Terrain”. The poem opens with these lines: “To Pass through pain and not know it, A car door slamming in the night. To emerge on an invisible terrain.” Andy discusses how these works are about how we order the world, through language, through the lens of a camera (or phone), or through thousands of small marks made with pencils and dust, but also how that pursuit must inevitably end in failure.
