First of all, Mary was way too quick to take to that child when he miraculously turned up alive. She sacrificed him, in utero, to the devil for her witch powers so he shouldn't even be alive. They basically said the devil had him all those years so whether or not he was actually residing in HELL, that doesn't sound healthy. And lastly on this point, she still doesn't know how he lived all those years or even where Tituba takes him now when she returns him to the woods. Mary, you're smarter than this. Second, I sense a little incestuous vibe from him. He near made out with her when she bathed him and kissed him on the forehead. He kept a dead dove because it's beauty reminded him of her. And he looked less than pleased to have found her in the throes of passion with the doctor dude. Little dude is twisted. Finally, I think we can all agree he has a sadistic streak. He tortured George, killed a bird and low-key threatened Ann, all for his own amusement. It's entertaining, but creepy. My verdict: Best case scenario, he's possessed by a demon or the devil himself. That's best case because possessed persons can be exorcised. Or He's actually that psychologically damaged, in which case, he's not changing. Or That IS the devil or a demon disguised as a little boy to keep Mary on the path of finishing the Grand Rite and Mary's actual son is dead.
