Look at these birds going for a ride on our john boat!
(Photos taken at the entrance to the Homosassa River, near Shell Island, Florida)
Snake Boat - May 2020 My eyes often play tricks on me. I knew what I was taking a picture of, but when I first looked at the first image, all I could see was a snake-like sea serpent racing across the water with its mouth open. I had to tell myself, “That’s a boat. You took a picture of a boat,” before my eyes admitted reality and saw the boat. Both images are great shots of a boat on the Suwannee River, but my eyes still want to see that first image as a ferocious giant serpent speeding across the water with its mouth open. The highly reflective black water of the Suwannee can make for some very interesting images. MWM
“Down in the hill country, the John boat has long been part of the region’s fishing lore. Natives swear by it and sportsmen from all over the country come to the Ozarks to ride leisurely down clear water streams where they put their fishing skill against the black bass. Here the John boat is as native as the small-mouth bass itself.” Townsend Godsey 1956
