I totally agree with you on your statement. SRS is not for everyone, thus the extensive therapy and seemingly excruciating wait is unfortunate yet utterly necessary. I've been through the therapy and it can be painfully repetitive, but I also managed to work through many internal and external issues which ultimately left me feeling as though the sessions were a waste of time. Some people out there have regrets that simply need to be addressed to determine the legitimacy of their feelings, thoughts, and worries. There are a good number of us out there who are truly experiencing Dysphoria, but there is, of course, an even larger number of people in the world whose adjustment disorders are not comparative to those of the trans community. If anyone could "request" a reassignment surgery without fulfilling any preventative prerequisites, the results could and most likely would be, as you stated, highly dangerous. Honestly, I think a "petition" such as the one you were criticizing imparts a bad name upon the trans community to the widely unaware public.
