"What if I'm naked, playing guitar on a bed? We'll superimpose the shots so I'm on the edge of the bed facing the camera, and then a shot of me to either side of the bed." The idea would be controversial at best. I liked it because I was a student of P.T. Barnum. P.T. knew the value of controversy....To make sure the naked bed bit was going to work, my art director, Jeff Framakes, suggested we try another local photographer, Joe Gianetti. Joe came over to my house and shot Polaroids as Prince stripped to his skivvies and positioned himself on our bed. Joe somehow superimposed the Polaroids together and there it was: three naked Princes on my bed, each holding a guitar. Once we were in San Francisco, I talked Macy's department store into opening for us on a holiday and flew Joe out. Alone in the giant store we tried all the bed displays until we found just the right one; a queen sized bed with an arched window behind it. Joe shot away and returned to Minneapolis the next day. Jeff completed the superimposition of the three Princes and sent the elements to Warner's.
