hi, would you have any advice for a complete beginner who's also very out of shape and has never been to the gym on how to start lifting weights? I've noticed lately that I'm not as strong as I used to be when I was younger and while I don't need to become super strong, I'd like to at least feel confident enough if I need to do menial tasks around the house like lift boxes, assemble furniture, etc. but I don't really know where to start or what to look out for. would you have any tips? no worries if not! <3
I made this post a while ago and I stand by it! It's maybe a bit TOO involved for your needs but the first part is evergreen. You'll want to practice the basics (squats, hinge, push/pull, core), warm up before and stretch after; the best way to see progress is to follow a structured program, but you will see progress as a beginner regardless. If you've never been to the gym the basic etiquette is: don't hog machines, use a towel / wipe them after, don't slam the weights intentionally, have fun!
also my cardio situation is dreadful. I've GOTTA start running again my resting heartrate is Bad

Anyway gym time my favorite time
I can't find the post right now but genuinely, thinking that exercise is a celebration of what your body can do (instead of a punishment for what you ate or whatever) makes it so much more fun.
I'm still working on being nicer to myself when i'm injured or sick, but i think I've got this first part down pat because i just went hogwild on a treadmill and it was the best 60 minutes I've had all week.
I love running i love cycling i love the days when i'm healthy enough to do things.
