An Ode to Joan
“The impulse to write things down is a peculiarly compulsive one, inexplicable to those who do not share it, useful only accidentally, only secondarily, in the way that any compulsion tries to justify itself. I suppose that it begins or does not begin in the cradle.” ― Joan Didion, Slouching Towards Bethlehem
It was Joan Didion's Birthday yesterday, she is one of my largest inspirations and consoles in this world, so to honor her I photographed my plethoras of notepads to demonstrate the artistic process of which I thrive, to scribble, write, and draw. Through the paper and pen, the written word, the not quite right, the yet to be figured, and the scratched out, I heavily delineate my focus. Thank you Joan Didion for The Year Of Magical Thinking, your plethoras of other published works, and your methodologies which only reinforced my practice in thinking about loss, living, harmony, and California.Â
