Well……I had only ever seen the movie and I really love it! the music the, storyline etc however I know everyone says it misses huge plot lines and songs etc and wasn’t as good as the musical so I had to book to see ESPECIALLY with the cast announced, also my first full Sondheim production!
Was a bit nervous as wasn’t familiar with Kate Fleetwoods singing voice but knew she was a pretty good actor. She was F****G PHENOMENAL! Acted the hell out the role, was genuinely hysterical and intimidating absolutely adored her and she made me cry several times.
Katie was excellent as the bakers wife, again just genuinely felt really connected to her, her voice is so different to what I expected but it was fantastic, her return to the baker at the end had me in a MESS, she was super funny also!
Jamie as the Baker was great! Again towards the end is where I think his acting shone, had me in tears with no more a song which I’m not familiar with,
Chumisa as Cinderella was a highlight, loved her in phantom and this was her role she acted the shit out it, sounded incredible and the way she responded to the rest of the cast was so detailed, no one is alone had me hysterical.
Gracie as Little Red was so funny, different to what I expected but obsessed with her she was a highlight and can’t wait to see her do it again!
Jo as Jack really had me sobbing at the end, he was so hysterically funny and so sincere, beautiful voice!
Michael as narrator was brilliant, and then of course when you find out who he really is towards the end it’s heartbreaking, really enjoyed!
Bella was so underused as Rapunzel but she was SOOOO GOOD when she was on stage, her harmonising with Kate at the end of Last midnight holy shit, I’m seeing a potential Christine her voice was so gorgeous.
Oli and Rhys as the princes were absolutely hilarious loved their chemistry and their voices of course were great, so nice to see Rhys on stage again!
The set was beautiful and the lighting made it even better really felt like you were in a forest, and the reveal was breathtaking, act 2 after the destruction caused by the giant and the set had totally changed was out of this world.
Overall an absolutely stellar cast who really acted the hell out their roles and reduced me to a blubbering mes by the end of the show I was heartbroken, will be back 1000000%
