I’m John Wise.

I am a first year MFA student in Digital Animation and Motion Arts at Pratt Institute. I received my BA from San Francisco State University with a Major in Cinema and a Minor in Animation.

I am beyond excited to continue my education and bolster my professional life by studying and creating work here at Pratt. My creative background includes performing and teaching improv theater, playing music and noise including performing in a broadcast for the Whitney Biennial and then transitioning into video and animation. I have shown my animation at ASIFA-SF and received an award at the SF Film Finals.

The majority of my animation has been based in a more traditional / tactile style with an emphasis on getting my hands dirty and experimenting with different mediums. I have used sand, chalk, tissue paper and flowers to create work as well as deconstructing books and painting on glass. I’m extremely excited to take my recent work and style and combine it with a more contemporary and new school approach to digital animation and storytelling.

My aim is to use my skillset for adverting, television and film and to show in galleries. Thanks for checking this out and feel free to contact me with any thoughts ideas or questions!
