There were at least a dozen other places Joana would rather have been and none of them included the two bedroom home her husband grew up in, trapped with her in-laws while she waited for his arrival. Dwelling on it wouldn’t change her circumstances though and she knew that, but it didn’t stop her from impatiently counting down the hours and minutes until she would be back in her New York City apartment. The only reason she agreed to the trip was to avoid an argument because it was one she never would win. Joana’s problem was simple: she was perpetually unhappy in her marriage, but stayed out of guilt and fear.
Her current situation only magnified the feeling and with her in-laws hovering over her, prying with questions about when the couple would start a family and if they ever planned on moving back to the small town, she was in desperate need of fresh air. So, before she could talk herself out of it, Joana slipped on her winter coat and hat before mumbling a ‘have to run an errand, see you later’ to her mother-in-law as she slipped out the door. The brunette had no idea where she was going, but anything was better than that stuffy house. A few quick turns and she was at the grocery store, which although not the ideal place, would be a nice reprieve. She wandered around the store, arms leaned against the shopping cart as traipsed up and down the aisles and just as she turned, she caught a glimpse of the one person she never thought she would ever see again... Miles.
