Q&A: About My Kicks.
What Got Me Started?
To get everyone on track, I'm not a huge customizer/artist/shoemaker guy (although I would love to be all that), I'm just a huge fan of shoes and art. It all started when I got into the sneaker game during my sophomore year in high school, but didn't really start collecting until I was a senior. I was also into athletic brand shoes like Nike, Jordan, and Adidas, because I loved the sport of basketball. Back when, my favorite players were easily Vince Carter, T-Mac, and J.Kidd, I saw them a good amount of times too when I was growing up in Orlando and New Jersey.
Once I realized I had a random collection of store-bought shoes that anyone could buy, a close friend of mine showed me the path of Nike SB. He showed me how people can actually buy shoes online, but for a large sum of money, which I did not have then (nor do I have now, but I do have a job... that's a start). My first dream pair of Nike SB were the Send Helps (shown below), mostly because sky blue was a huge color back then and it was a clean looking shoe. Sadly, I still don't have a pair, but I'm still searching for a good deal.
What Kind of Shoes Do I Collect?
Since my first Nike SB, Goofy Boy Dunk Lows, I've slowly gathered more and more SB's to add to my collection, not necessarily considered heat, but personal favorites for a reasonable price. (I still have to pay for college, you know...) I'll be posting reviews and photos of the Nike SB's I own in the near future.
Other than Nike SB's, I have a few pairs of Vans, which I love because of how casual and simple they look, the multiple designs and colors, and the sub-$60 price range they fall under. Hopefully, I'll also be customizing a pair for myself soon. I also have a very limited number of Jordan's and a pair of Nike Air Max '95. I'd really like to expand my collection of Jordan's and Nike Air's greatly, just give me some time and I'll get there.
What Is JKcustoms?
As I was exploring the internet on customization of shoes, I noticed a lot of custom shoe artists had cool names like JBF Customs, JGoods, PattersonArt, EmmanueLabor, Mizzee, etc. That's why I decided to go with JKcustoms, so look out worldddd.
I'll post some "How To" videos or maybe just step-by-step directions on how I customize my Nikes and Vans, whether its painting or reconstructing.
