the front door clicks shut behind them, the deadbolt sliding home with a familiar thud that usually summons you from wherever youâve been napping. but tonight thereâs no scrabbling of claws on hardwood, no excited whining, no warm body hurtling itself against their legs in a frenzy of wagging tail and licking tongue. the house is silent.
satoru drops his bag by the coat rack, shrugging off his jacket with a frown that pulls at the corners of his mouth. âthatâs weird,â he murmurs, and suguru is already moving past him, his own footsteps quickening as he heads down the hallway. the lights are dim, just the soft glow of a lamp left on in the living room, and thereâs something about the stillness that makes the hair on the back of suguruâs neck prickle. youâre always at the door. always. itâs a ritual theyâve come to rely on, the way you wiggle and squirm and press your wet nose into their palms, tail wagging so hard your whole back end sways with it.
suguru calls your name, soft but expectant, and gets nothing but silence in return. satoru is right behind him now, his hand finding the small of suguruâs back as they round the corner into the living room.
and then they see you.
youâre curled up on the oversized cushion in the corner of the couch, the one youâve claimed as your own, but youâre not sleeping. your knees are drawn up toward your chest, the hem of the oversized t-shirtâone of suguruâs old ones, the fabric soft and wornâbunched around your thighs. your ears are pinned flat against your skull, pressed so tight theyâre nearly hidden in the mess of your hair, and your eyes are wide, glassy, fixed on them with an expression thatâs equal parts shame and desperate relief.
your hand is between your legs.
even in the dim light, they can see the way your fingers are moving, slow and slick, hidden beneath the fabric but unmistakable in their rhythm. your cheeks are flushed, your lips parted, and thereâs a damp patch darkening the shirt where your thighs press together. you havenât stopped. even now, with them standing there, watching, your hand keeps working, keeps rubbing, like you canât help yourself, like your body has taken over and your mind has just given up.
suguruâs breath catches. he feels the heat rising in his own chest, the familiar stirring in his gut as he takes in the sight of you, trembling and caught, your obedience crumbling under the weight of four days alone. satoru lets out a low, slow exhale beside him, and when he speaks, his voice is quiet, controlled, laced with something that makes your ears twitch.
âpuppy,â he says, and the word hangs in the air between you like a command. âwhat did we tell you?â
you whimper. itâs a small, broken sound that leaks out of your throat before you can stop it, and your hand stills for just a second before resuming its frantic pace. you canât stop. youâve been trying for days, fighting against the ache that built in your core from the moment they left, the empty house pressing in around you until the only thing that made the loneliness bearable was the memory of their hands, their mouths, the way they owned you completely. you told yourself youâd be good. you promised. you made it through the first night, and the second, but by the third day the need had become a living thing, coiling in your belly and whispering in your ear, and this morning you woke up with your fingers already buried between your slick folds, grinding against your palm before you were even fully awake.
and now theyâre here. theyâve seen you. they know.
satoru moves first, crossing the room in a few long strides until heâs standing in front of the couch, looking down at you with those sharp eyes that miss nothing. he reaches out and hooks his fingers under the hem of the shirt, peeling it up slowly, deliberately, revealing the pale skin of your thighs, the glisten of your wetness, the desperate clutch of your fingers as you try to hide what youâve been doing. but he doesnât let you. he wraps his hand around your wrist and pulls your hand away, exposing you completely, the slick evidence of your disobedience shining on your inner thighs.
âlook at you,â he murmurs, and thereâs no anger in his voice, just a kind of dark wonder. âso needy you couldnât even wait for us to get through the door. weâre gone for a few days and you fall apart like this?â
you shake your head, a frantic denial that doesnât match the way your hips buck into the empty air, searching for friction youâre no longer allowed. suguru has come to stand behind satoru, his arms crossed, his gaze heavy on your exposed cunt. you can feel the weight of their attention like a physical thing, pressing down on you, and it only makes you wetter.
âplease,â you whisper, the word cracking at the edges. âi tried. i tried so hard.â
ânot hard enough,â suguru says, and the firmness in his voice makes you whimper again. he steps around the couch, crouching down in front of you so he can look you in the eye. his hand comes up to cup your jaw, tilting your face toward him, and you feel the warmth of his palm against your flushed skin. âwe told you not to touch. we gave you a simple rule, and you broke it. didnât you?â
you nod, a tiny, shameful motion. your ears are still pinned flat, your tailâ tucked tight between your legs. you feel small and exposed and utterly at their mercy, and the worst part is how much you crave it.
âiâm sorry,â you breathe, and the apology trembles on your lips. âi justâi neededââ
satoruâs hand lands on your knee, squeezing gently, and the touch sends a jolt through your entire body. âwe know what you needed, puppy,â he says, and his thumb traces a slow circle on your sensitive skin. âwe know exactly what you need. but you donât get to take it. not without us.â
suguruâs hand slides from your jaw down the column of your throat, resting lightly over your pulse point, feeling the frantic beat of your heart beneath his fingers. âyouâve been bad,â he says, and thereâs a hint of satisfaction in his tone, the pleasure of having evidence of your desperation spread out before him. âbut weâre home now. weâll take care of you.â
the promise in his words washes over you like hot water, loosening the knot of tension thatâs been wound tight in your chest for days. you sag forward, your forehead coming to rest against his shoulder, and you feel his hand move to the back of your head, fingers tangling in your hair, holding you there. satoruâs hand is still on your knee, but itâs sliding higher now, tracing the sensitive skin of your inner thigh, making you shiver.
âtell us,â satoru says, his voice a low rumble close to your ear. âtell us how long youâve been touching yourself. how many times. we want to hear everything.â
and you do. you tell them, the words spilling out in a rush of confession, every moment of weakness laid bare for them to judge. the first night, when you curled up in their bed and pressed your face into their pillows, breathing in their scent until the ache became unbearable. the second night, when you gave in and let your hand wander, just a little, just enough to take the edge off, but it wasnât enough. the third morning, when you woke up grinding against the mattress, your cunt soaked and aching, and you came with a sob of relief that echoed through the empty house.
you tell them about the guilt that followed, the shame that sat heavy in your stomach, but also the way the pleasure lingered, the memory of your own fingers working in and out of your wet heat making you wet all over again. you tell them you tried to stop, you really did, but your body wouldnât listen, and by the time you heard the key in the lock you were already lost, already gone, your hand moving in frantic circles as you chased one more release before they found you.
satoru and suguru exchange a look over your head, a silent conversation that you canât see but can feel in the way their hands tighten on your body.
âwell,â suguru says, and thereâs a smile in his voice, dark and fond. âit seems like we have some work to do. youâve forgotten who you belong to, puppy.â
you shake your head, pressing closer to him. âno. i know. i remember. iâm yours.â
âprove it,â satoru says, and his hand finally reaches the apex of your thighs, fingers sliding through the slick evidence of your disobedience. you gasp, your hips jerking forward, chasing his touch, and he rewards you with a single, slow stroke that makes your vision blur. âshow us how sorry you are. show us you remember.â
now, youâre laid out on their bed like an offering, wrists bound above your head to the headboard with the silk ropes theyâd left coiled in the nightstand, the knots snug but not biting, holding you in place with a firmness that leaves no room for escape. your legs are spread wide, knees bent, feet flat on the mattress, and you feel utterly exposed, the cool air of the bedroom brushing over your wet cunt, making you shiver and clench around nothing. satoru kneels between your thighs, his focus razor-sharp as he positions the bullet vibrator against your clit, pressing the flat head right against that swollen nub, and then heâs wrapping a length of soft cord around your hips, cinching the toy in place so it sits flush against you, unyielding. the first low hum of vibration buzzes through your pelvis and you gasp, your back arching off the mattress, but he hasnât even turned it up yet.
suguru moves above you, his shadow falling over your face, and you feel the soft fabric of satoruâs blindfold being draped over your eyes, the world going dark as he ties it snugly behind your head. the pressure is just enough to remind you that you canât see, canât anticipate, canât prepare for whatever they decide to do. your earsâyour puppy earsâswivel and twitch, trying to catch every sound, every breath, every whisper of clothing against skin, but the darkness leaves you adrift, sensitive and trembling.
âthere,â satoru murmurs, his thumb stroking the inside of your thigh with mock gentleness. ânice and tight. youâre not going anywhere, are you, puppy?â
you shake your head frantically, a small whimper escaping your lips. ân-no, iâm not going anywhere, iâm sorry, pleaseââ
âshh,â suguru says, and his hand lands on your cheek, not hard, but firm, turning your face toward where you guess heâs sitting. âyou donât get to talk unless we say so. you lost that privilege when you decided to touch yourself without permission. didnât you?â
you nod, tears already pricking at the corners of your eyes beneath the blindfold. âyes, sir.â
âgood girl,â satoru says, and the praise sounds like a knife wrapped in velvet. ânow letâs see how many times you can come before you remember your place.â
he clicks the vibrator to its lowest setting. the buzz is soft, teasing, a gentle thrum that makes your thighs twitch but doesnât push you anywhere close to the edge. you squirm, trying to grind against the toy, but the cord holds it in placeâyou canât get more pressure, canât angle it differently, you can only lie there and take whatever they give you. suguruâs fingers find your nipples through the fabric of the shirt, he rolls them between his thumb and forefinger, pinching just hard enough to make you gasp.
âyou look so pathetic like this,â satoru says, his voice low and conversational. âspread open, tied down, blind. and youâre already wet. youâve been dripping since we walked in, havenât you?â
âyes,â you breathe, because you canât lie, not when theyâre watching, not when they know.
âyes what?â
âyes, sir. iâve been wet. iâi canât help it.â
âcanât help it,â suguru repeats, and thereâs a cruel amusement in his tone. âyou canât help being a desperate little slut who needs us to keep her in line. is that what youâre saying?â
you whimper, your hips bucking involuntarily as the vibrator pulses against your clit. âyes, sir. i need you. i need you to keep me in line. i canât do it alone.â
âwe know,â satoru says, and he clicks the vibrator up a notch.
the sensation sharpens, the buzz deepening, spreading through your clit like a wave of heat. your breath hitches, your fingers curling into fists above your head as the pleasure starts to build, slow and inevitable. they donât touch you otherwiseâthey just watch, let the toy do the work, let your body writhe and twist on the bed as you try to find some friction, some angle, some relief. but thereâs no relief, only the relentless hum against your clit, drawing you higher and higher until the first orgasm crashes over you, sudden and sharp, your back bowing off the mattress as a cry tears from your throat.
âone,â suguru counts, his voice flat, clinical. âfour more to go.â
youâre still trembling from the aftershocks when satoru clicks the vibrator up again. the sensation goes from sharp to almost unbearable, the vibration stronger now, pressing against your oversensitive clit with no mercy. you gasp, trying to squirm away, but the cord holds you fast, and suguruâs hands clamp down on your hips, pinning you in place.
âah-ah,â he says. âyou donât get to run. you wanted to come so badly while we were gone, didnât you? now you get to come for us. as many times as we want.â
âplease,â you whimper, already feeling the second wave building, too fast, too soon. âplease, itâs too muchââ
âitâs not too much,â satoru corrects, and his voice is hard now, no more gentleness. âyou donât get to decide whatâs too much. we do. and we say you can take five. so youâll take five.â
the second orgasm hits before you can brace for it, ripping through you like a lightning strike, your cunt clenching around nothing as a sob tears from your chest. you hear yourself crying, high and broken, but the vibrator doesnât stop, doesnât slow, just keeps grinding against your clit, pushing you into the third before the second has even fully faded. your legs kick out, your heels digging into the mattress, but suguruâs grip on your hips is iron, and satoruâs hand finds your stomach, pressing down, feeling the convulsions of your muscles beneath his palm.
âthree,â suguru says, and you can hear the smile in his voice. âyouâre doing so well, puppy. making such a mess of our sheets.â
youâre sobbing now, tears soaking into the blindfold, your throat raw from the sounds being torn out of you. every nerve in your body is screaming, pleasure and pain blurring together until you canât tell where one ends and the other begins. the fourth orgasm builds slower, more agonizingly, each second of vibration sending jolts through your oversensitive clit that make you wail and beg.
âplease, please, i canât, i canât, please have mercyââ
âmercy?â satoru leans close to your ear, his breath hot against your skin. âyou didnât show any mercy to yourself when you were touching that cunt without us. you came anyway, even though you knew it was wrong. why should we show you mercy now?â
you shake your head frantically, a stream of incoherent pleas spilling from your lips. âiâm sorry, iâm sorry, iâll be good, iâll never do it again, please, please just stopââ
âone more,â suguru says, and his hand slides down between your legs, his fingers pressing against the vibrator, driving it deeper into your clit, amplifying the sensation until you scream. âone more, and then weâll think about it. come for us, puppy. let go.â
the fifth orgasm tears through you like a wave of fire, white-hot and devastating, your whole body arching into a taut bow as a broken wail rips from your throat. you feel yourself gushing, soaking the sheets beneath you, your cunt clenching helplessly again and again as the vibration finally, finally stops. satoru clicks it off, and the sudden silence is broken only by your ragged sobs, your chest heaving, your wrists straining against the ropes as you shudder and cry.
youâre a messâtears and drool and slick all over the bed, your ears flat against your skull, your body limp and trembling. you can hear them moving around you, feel the mattress shift as they reposition, but you canât open your eyes, canât see, canât do anything but lie there and sob.
âplease,â you whisper, your voice wrecked, barely audible. âplease, no more. i canât. i canât.â
a hand cups your cheek, gentle now, wiping away tears. you donât know whose it is, donât care, you just lean into the touch, desperate for any kindness.
âfive,â suguru says softly. âyou did it. you took five.â
âbut you still broke the rule,â satoru adds, and his voice is quieter now too, but no less firm. âso youâre not off the hook yet, puppy. weâre just giving you a break.â
you sob with relief, your body sagging into the mattress, too exhausted to even form words. the ropes stay tight around your wrists, the blindfold stays in place, and the vibrator is still pressed against your clit, a silent promise of more to come. but for now, they let you breathe, let you cry, let you feel the weight of their presence around you, holding you in the aftermath.
and somewhere in the haze of pleasure and pain and surrender, you remember exactly who you belong to.

------------
âWhat do you think about this?â Suguru asked as he sat above you, strumming on his guitar. You were sitting on the floor between his legs, focused on your eight-page paper.
âIn a sec,â you reply while wrapping up the sentence you were on.
âTake a breakâŠâ Suguru whined, trying to pry the laptop from your speedy fingers.
âSugu, itâs due in two days. I will listen in a sec.â
âMhmm.â He sulked, leaning back into the sofa and continuing his chord progression.
Days like this were stressful- due to the plethora of assignments that piled on- but soothing in a way. Your schedules never aligned this often, but he was so entirely enamored with you that heâd do anything to spend his free time just being with you.Â
âI canât believe itâs been three hours and I only have my outline done,â you sighed while resting your head on his knee.
âYou got this,â he replies while running a hand soothingly through your hair while the other writes something down on the notepad next to him, âI believe in you.â
âDo you need anything to help you focus? Am I being too loud?â he asks while going to the kitchen and lighting your favorite candle, âI can make you a snack?â
âDo you mind getting me some fruit? I feel like I need some brain food.â You asked while cracking your knuckles and continuing to type away.
He nods and walks back over, handing you a cut persimmon with the skin peeled off. Suguru always knew what you needed before even saying it out loud.
Humming in appreciation you immediately start chewing on the sliced fruit.
Eyeing him from the corner, you see him looking out of your apartment window. It was raining hard outside, his favorite.Â
âAnything else you need to work on?â you ask. He shrugs his shoulders.Â
âNot much else, I want your opinion on what I have then Iâll see what I can add from there. Donât worry though,â he turns to look at you with a small smile, âI can wait.â
Suguru has always been supportive of your dreams and aspirations. It was a shock when he told you he wouldnât be joining you at university, but would instead pursue music. Although it was an adjustment, you supported him, and he rooted for you. It seemed to be working out; he passed the first two rounds of auditions for a big music company, and it looked like things were finally looking up for him.Â
Domain was the biggest band in the city. They were known for their upbeat ragers at underground venues, to their surprisingly heartfelt slow songs, sang to a crowd filled with phones and lighters raised in the air.
Gojo and Geto have always been attached at the hip. It's like the blind following the blind. Gojo was the loud, extroverted, smooth talker. Meanwhile, Geto preferred to observe and support both Gojo's rights and wrongs. As obnoxious as Gojo could be, he had the voice of an angel. So naturally, they spent lots of their youth songwriting together- Gojo sang, and Geto played the guitar and did the composing. Now, Gojo is the lead vocalist of Domain.
He met Sukuna at the gym. He was lifting, and though he may not admit it, he needed a spot for a bench that was a bit too ambitious. Now he uses his huge arms as Domain's drummer. Toji came into the Domain after seeing the group's flier at the local diner. Always a guy in need of quick cash, he was the only one who showed up for auditions. Thank god he was good.
Things were picking up so fast for Domain that it was hard to keep up. Some days you wouldnât see him at all, and some days he would pick you up from class and would stay glued to your side. He claims that he âsoaked up inspiration from you,â hence the constant quality time and skinship. He knew you were working hard, pursuing a higher education was so important to you and your family, and he wanted to be present every step of the way.Â
Unbeknownst to you, Suguru also had a dark cloud overlooking him, mirroring the city in front of him. He hasnât yet told you that he passed the third and final round of auditions for his company and would be slated to move to Japan before the end of the year to begin his training. He couldnât bear to break the news to you, not yet. Not when you were so close to finishing one of your hardest semesters yet.
âI think I can pull you away from that screen now y/n,â he says while tugging you away from the black-and-white screen.
âHey! Iâm not finished yet! I thought you said you could waitâ you pouted trying to get loose.
âYouâve been working nonstop, you arenât being as productive anymore.â He chuckles while slotting you to the seat across from him.
âHi.â he smiles at you.
âHi,â you respond.
Thereâs a moment of silence shared between you two. The only sound was the soft pitter-patter from outside hitting the patio. He stared at you lovingly. You could tell something was wrong, but you couldn't find the words to ask him just yet, too entranced by the current hold he has on you.
âSo, the song, yeah?â you finally whisper aloud.Â
âHold on,â he replies, licking his lips and searching every inch of your face, memorizing this very moment to inspire him for what heâs about to play.
âWhatâs the holdup? Donât get stage fright in front of me now, Geto,â you lightly say while giggling.
âI, I just want to make you proud, okay?â he finally says with sad eyes.
âYou always will.â
Guilt washed over him. Things were great, perfect even. But he just had to aspire for more. He should be satisfied with what he has now; heâs close to home, has a stable music career here in Canada, and most importantly, you. But just like you, he had the moon, but he wanted every damn star in the galaxy. He didnât want change, but nothing could satiate the hunger for something more. He was leaving because he knew that this life, now, wasnât enough.
âOkay.â he takes a moment to gather himself, taking in some deep breaks and shaking his nerves out through his hands.
âLetâs hear it!â you shuffle sitting up straight in your chair.
He lets out one final breath before starting a low strum on his guitar. Flashes of memories throughout your relationship flash before his eyes. Your first snow day in high school after getting your license, when you couldnât get the ice off of your windshield, to the countless nights of watching reruns of Criminal Minds in your small shared apartment.Â
He hits the chorus for the first time, opening his eyes to look around the room, unable to meet your eyes just yet. Pictures of you two littered the walls, filled with your smiling and laughing faces.Â
He mumbles small noises of nonsense to fill in the parts he doesnât know what to put in between, sometimes trying out some lyrics at the top of his head. He shakes his head and chuckles when words donât rhyme or quite fit. In return, you share a smile enjoying him delving into his craft.
Thereâs something about the way that he can lose himself completely, in his little world, and for brief moments, youâre able to enter his mind, envisioning every note in a flow of synesthesia. Heâs able to create color and landscape through sound, and whatâs crazier is that he doesnât even realize the extent of his art.
âAnd⊠I guess thatâs it. Whatâd you think?â He asks as he lets out a final strum. The warmness of his music is still palpable in the room, despite the cold and dark weather that demands to be let inside.Â
You take another moment staring at the man in front of you. He bit his fingers in anticipation. His large white tee hung loosely on his shoulders, his leg bounced, waiting for your feedback.
Everything is perfect.
Nothing can take this moment away from you two.Â
No words could exactly encapsulate how you felt so you decide to throw your arm around him.Â
Suguru lets out a sigh of relief as he sets his guitar to the side, âSo I guess you liked it?â then reciprocates by pulling you into his lap.
âI loved it, Sugu. I canât wait to hear it all together. I liked that chord progression, I can hear it on the radio one day,â you mutter into his shirt.
The light taps of rain outside were accompanied by the soft whimpers from the man whose chin sat upon your head.
âIâm always going to be here for you y/n,â he jaggedly says.
You two sat in each other's embrace for what seemed like an eternity.Â
âLet me show you something,â he says, breaking the silence and adjusting your position to where your back is flush against him.
He set the guitar in your hands, âLetâs start from the top, yeah?â
That night he taught you the song on his guitar, sometimes you filled in lyrics that felt right.
âThey know we got the chemistryâŠâ Geto sings.
âLove how your body feels on me, when you get back let me get thatâŠâ you finish with a small laugh.
âYo!â he jumps up, lifting your laughing frame into the air, âThatâs a bar!â
âAre you jealous that I may be a better singer than you?â you giggle back.
âYouâre coming for my career, baby girl!â
â
Six more hours.
Six more hours until this paper is due, and youâre almost done with this last page.Â
Six more hours until the hell that was this semester is finally done.
Six more hours until you can crawl into bed with Suguru and take a long-deserved nap.
âAlmost there, baby,â he says while massaging your shoulders.
âI got this,â you say while typing furiously.
âHell yeah, you do.â
Your train of thought was interrupted by his ringtone going off from behind you.
âIâll be right back, when I come back you better have this paragraph done!â
Sending him a stiff salute you continued to trudge on as he stepped into your bedroom and closed the door.
âGeto! Whatâs going on, my man? Happy holidays!â his new manager cheered into the phone.
âItâs going well, just spending some time with family and friends while I can,â he replies while lying down on your bed and grabbing a stuffed My Melody to hold against him.
âWell, Iâm glad you have been enjoying your last moments of freedom while you can. Speaking of which, I do have an early Christmas present for you!â
âAwesome! What is it?âÂ
âWell, the company wants you to start as soon as possible. I played them your band's audition, and they think you can finish your training in less than a year!â
âThatâs amazing!â he shoots up and runs his hands through his hair, âwhen do I fly out? Next year, I hope?â
âGeto, I did say Christmas present, didnât I? Youâll leave the day after the 25th. I bought you some more time to spend with your family, but youâll be spending the new year here, in Japan!â
Suguru felt his heart drop. That was in two weeks.Â
Two weeks to eat all the food he can.
Two weeks to practice with the band.
Two weeks to say goodbye to his family.
Two weeks to erase all traces of his friend groupsâ antics.
Two weeks till he has to leave you.
âUh⊠two weeks⊠wow thatâs really soon.âÂ
âAbsolutely! Now rest up, this year is going to be the craziest experience of your life!â
His manager kept going on about the potential future he had coming for him. But he couldnât seem to focus on all the newfound information. Slowly feeling the aroma of you envelop him fully, being surrounded by you everywhere, it was suffocating.Â
How is he going to tell you?
âI finished it!â he heard your jumps of triumph in the distance, echoing to the pits of his empty stomach, âIâm finally done with this God-awful semester! One more year till graduation!â
You burst through the door, interrupting his pensive state, wrapping yourself around him.
âYou okay, babe?â You realize pulling away slowly, eyeing his sweating frame, âYou look a bit sick, want me to make you some soup?â
âOh no, Iâm fine, just fine really,â he shallowly laughs, pulling himself away from you and moving to turn on the fan, âjust got a little warm is all.â
âWho called?â you asked before flopping on the bed and sighing, âwas it your manager? Did you get the job?â
âUh yeahâŠâ he shuffled, not meeting your eyes, âIt was my manager, he had some good newsâŠâ
âOh my God, did you guys pass?â you pounced on him, awaiting the news.
âUh⊠yeah, I did.â he lied.
With an excited squeal, you shower him in kisses and tight squeezes, your love for him unfaltering, âWhen do you leave?â
âNot for another year,â he smiles, not looking at you.
âHopefully youâll still be here for my graduationâŠâ you sighed, âNonetheless Iâm glad I get to keep you to myself for a bit longer.

December 25, 2022
âAnd this one's for you babe,â you smiled plopping the present into his hands. The Christmas tree behind him set the picture-perfect scene. Surrounded by your closest friends and family exchanging presents in your matching red and green pajamas, bellies full from the holiday feast, and presents waiting to be opened.Â
He happily obliged and ripped into the small package immediately. His eyes were wide as he lifted the contents with careful fingers.
âItâs a guitar pick,â you explained, seating yourself in his lap as he closely examined it, âso when you practice, youâll always remember that Iâm with you, cheering you on.â
He flipped the small piece over and nearly shed a tear at the small gold embossed scrawling you had designed a tiny heart.
âBut hey, just because you have this doesnât mean you can just stop cutting your fingernails! Also, itâs a reminder of me scolding you to stop biting your nails!â he chuckled lightly.
He didnât have any words, mostly scared that he was going to start choking up if he even dared to open his mouth.
His present for you sat heavy in his pocket, the box weighing him down, anchored to the floor. Or was it the guilt that sat in his chest?
âGeto!â your friend Yuji shouted while making his way over, interrupting his contemplation, âHeard the great news! So excited for you, man! Look at you, finally pursuing your passion! It feels like yesterday you guys were just practicing in the garage.âÂ
âThank you, man, I appreciate it,â Suguru responds, reaching a hand out to dap him up.
âSay, canât believe youâre leaving so soon, what a shame, your mom has been a mess crying every time she hears your name.â
âWe will make the most of the time we have together, thatâs for sure,â you interject, snuggling into Suguru.
âWell, you two better hurry,â Yuji says while looking at his watch, âTime's tickingâŠâ
âWell, good thing he leaves-â
Suguru suddenly stands up, meeting Yuji before you can finish your sentence, âYeah, I mean, we will make it feel like a year, thatâs for sure! Gotta spend as much time with my girl as possible!â While patting his shoulder rather harshly and pleading with him with his eyes.
âUh⊠Dude did you not-â
âItadori! Did you try the cherry cheesecake that she made? Itâs so good! Letâs go have some now!â
âBut Iâm allergic!â
âBe right back, babe, just going to get a slice!âÂ
Suguru pulls Yuji by the scruff of his neck to the kitchen.
âDid you seriously not tell her yet? You leave tomorrow! Eighteen hours to be exact!â He harshly whispers to Geto.
âI just havenât had the right moment to tell her yetâŠâ he sighs, running a hand through his hair, âItâs going to break her.âÂ
âYou know what might break her more? She wakes up tomorrow and goes over to your house to only be told you left the country!â
âI know!â he yells a bit too loudly. Everyone in the house turned to the shouting two with questioning eyes.
âSorry folks! Just talking about some music things!âÂ
âGeto, you are going to quite literally ruin her. The only thing you are accomplishing-âÂ
âA toast!â The pair was interrupted by Geto's parents, who asked everyone to gather around.
âWe are not done here, you will tell her tonight,â Yuji states, shoulder-checking Suguru before grabbing a champagne flute and joining everyone.
He takes a moment to collect himself before plastering a fake smile and rejoining at your side.
âThank you, everyone, for joining us here tonight. As you all know, Christmas is such a lovely time for all of us to reunite and enjoy each otherâs company,â his dad announces.
âItâs been so long since Iâve seen some of you, that I almost didnât recognize a few!â a chorus of chuckles resounded before he cleared his voice and continued, âAs some of you may or may not know, God has truly blessed one a few of our own with the opportunity of a lifetime,â everyone turned towards Suguru with proud smiles, âAnd I would like to thank each and every one of you who supported and believed in our dear son and his friends. We are all so proud of you and canât wait to see you make music for the whole world to hear!âÂ
âThatâs my boyfriend!â You shouted from the back, also receiving a chorus of laughter.Â
âThough we may not see you for a while, just know we are rooting for you, all of us here at home, love you dearly,â his mom chimed in, raising her glass towards him, âto Domain.â
âTo Domain!â Everyone cheered, raising their glasses in unison.
âTo DomainâŠâ you softly said, confused while looking up at him.Â
Suguru was sweating. Puddles.
He weakly lifted his glass and downed it in one gulp, not making eye contact with your questioning eyes beneath him.Â
âBaby? What does she mean for a while? You donât leave for a long while?â you ask with lips pouted.
âUh⊠I think she just means that you all wonât see me for a bit because⊠I uh⊠will be busy getting ready to leave for training is all! Yeah! I am just so excited to be diving into my craft!â
âOh. Okay. She made it sound like you were leaving tomorrow or something,â you chuckled sipping from your glass, âSo, what did you get me for Christmas?â
Already flustered, he was saved by his ringtone, âNot yet, lemme take this real quick, itâs my manager.â
You nodded, turning to wait for your turn for the karaoke microphone while he stepped out onto the porch in the cold.
âMerry Christmas boys!â his manager sang to him in a group call, âHow is everyone's day going?â
"Can we please cut the pleasantries?" Toji sighs.
"Let's make this quick, yeah? Sukuna and I want to get some practice in tonight," Gojo whines. Sukuna lets out a soft grunt in agreement.
âUhâŠâ Suguru huffed out, a puff of visible breath leaving his mouth as he shivered, âItâs been good. Hard to say goodbye.â
âWell, itâs another Christmas miracle, boys! Luckily for you, however very unlucky for the company, all the airports in Canada have been temporarily unable to send out or land any planes due to severe weather warnings, so we wonât be able to fly you out for a bit. I went back and forth with the company and bought you some more time, so youâll leave the first of the year! New year, new beginnings, am I right?â
Geto couldnât believe his ears.Â
More time with you. More time to tell you.
âAre you serious?â he choked out.
âYes! So please, tell that girlfriend of yours, I have a feeling you havenât been able to break the news,â he pokes.
"I really don't want to sit next to you on the plane if you're going to be crying the whole time," Toji chuckles.
âMan⊠shut up, and what makes you think that?âÂ
His band mates harmonize a resounding jester of boo's.
âWell, considering the first file you sent over to me of singing samples was painful ballads, I would guess that you havenât told her, or you two broke up. And we all just know neither one of you could do that.â
"Pussy whipped!" Sukuna laughs, and the others join in.
Suguru looks down the street, blurry colors barely visible due to the heavy amounts of snow falling, âIâll tell her soon. Just not on Christmas.â
The lot spent a few more minutes talking about logistics and excitement before he went back inside.
How is he going to break the news to you?
â
Suguru was able to successfully avoid you for the remainder of the party, too many aunties and uncles pulling him away to congratulate him- even sneaking a few bills and checks into his pocket- and asking way too many questions about the future that made his head spin.
From time to time he would look over and see you playing with the heaps of children with their new toys, or holding some ladyâs newborn baby, or helping his mom pack peopleâs takeaway plates. One aunt had to quite literally snap her fingers in front of his face to redirect his attention because he couldnât stop swooning over you holding a set of sleeping baby twins.Â
âI like her,â his aunt smiled while joining him in the hallway, âSheâs the type you want to lock down.â
âI love her.â
âThen donât break her heart, soon is coming whether you like it or not.â
You were now playing hide and seek with a few of the older kids and saw your bright red socks peeking out from under the tall curtains giving your spot away immediately.
âOnly a coward will let something this small get in the way.â his aunt pats his shoulder before walking away.
â
âYou know you never had the chance to give me your Christmas giftâŠâ You trail while face-timing Suguru in bed.
âYouâll get it soon, don't worry,â he laughs, shuffling the sheet music on his desk.
âYou know, it is customary to exchange presents on Christmas right?â
âI am aware, Iâll give it to you next time I see you. New Yearâs Eve right? Weâre still going over to Yuji's?â
âI should be back by then.â
Trying to find the right time to tell you was arduous. The day after Christmas, your family surprised you with a trip to New York to visit some of your family there. Just more time wasted where he couldnât spend his last waking moments of freedom with you. Scrolling through Instagram, it tugged at his heartstrings seeing you smile and laugh with cousins you havenât seen in a while, unaware of the disastrous news waiting for you at home with him.Â
Cheers to the end of Fall 2022! Your caption reads, a boomerang with you cheering to the camera, a pint of beer daring to spill over.
âWhat time is your flight tomorrow?â he asks.
âNine pm,â you respond yawning, âa few more stops for sightseeing, then my cousin is dropping us off at the airport.
âAm I still picking you up to go back to the apartment?â
âYes please.â
There was movement on your end of the camera due to your cousins wrestling you to the ground, trying to sneak a peek at your boyfriend.
âHi, hyung!â one of the younger ones shouted with a toothless smile.
âHello, hello! Please be careful with my girlfriend, she is highly valuable to me!â he chuckles, leaning back into his bed.Â
âNo promises! She needs to take us ice skating now and she hasnât gotten dressed yet!â he whines back.
âOkay okay, I surrender! Please get off, Iâll get ready now!âÂ
He bids you a farewell and heads to bed.Â
One more sleep until itâs time to see you.

December 31, 2022
âRed or blue for tonight?â you shout from your closet.
âHmm⊠I am wearing baby blue tonight. How about that dark blue dress you bought the other day?â he replies by sporting a towel around his waist and a toothbrush in his mouth.Â
âThe sparkly one or the satin one?â you walk up behind him as he spits into the sink, taking in the options through the mirror.
âDefinitely sparkly, it is New Year's Eve after all.â
âI donât even want to go outâŠâ You whine, leaning onto his back and pecking his shoulder, âCan we just stay inâŠ?â continuing a path of open-mouth kisses to his neck.
âHell no! Yuji will kill us if we donât show up! Heâs been planning this all month!â he says, trying not to give in to your feeble attempts at seduction and focus on shaving his faint mustache.
âBut I donât wanna⊠the new year means another day closer to you leaving and I want to spend every minute with you!â
His back tenses at the mention of his departure.
âYeah⊠me too, baby,â he says, shrugging you off and heading towards the dresser to grab some boxers, âbut letâs celebrate rather than think about that!â
The fresh hot shower couldnât ease the nervousness that he felt. He was keeping this a secret.
Again.
From the moment he picked you up at the airport, he tried, he really tried, to confess to you about his early departure. But the way you kept talking about your fun adventures from New York, he couldnât just rain on your sunshine just quite yet. Then he decided he would tell you when you two got back to the apartment, after dinner. But you obviously had other plans as you decided to immediately jump his bones upon unlocking the front door. He even tried to disconnect your needy lips from his own, but alas, he wasnât just a man with needs- he was a simp with needs. And who was he to deny you of anything you wanted?
He decided now, as he was putting on his socks, that he was going to have to tell you before you two left for the party. Especially with how much of a loudmouth Yuji is, everybody in attendance probably already heard of the news and his send-off the next morning.Â
Mustering up the courage to approach you, he eyed your frame standing at the mirror near the door, just putting the last of your lip gloss on for the night.
Itâs now or never.
âHey baby, I have something to tell you,â he said shakily, standing with knees that felt like they were going to give out any second.Â
âWhatâs up,â you respond, walking past him to grab your purse and then meeting him in the hallway.
âJust know, that I know that this is very last minute, and I probably should have told you sooner but I didnât want to make the moment super emotional. I love you. You mean so entirely much to me, and Iâm scared I would push you away,â he admits.
âSugu,â you start, taking his hand in yours to shut down his insecure thoughts, âItâs okay. I already know.â
âWait, you do?â he shouts incredulously, âWho told you? Was it Sukuna? Toji? It had to be Gojo, that mother fucker...Oh my God, it was my mom, wasnât it? I told her not to say anythingâŠâ
âBaby no none of them told me, I was just waiting for you to show me?â
Suguru cocked an eyebrow, âShow youâŠ?â
âMy Christmas present, right?â you chuckle shoving him lightly, âI donât mind if you forgot, I know youâve had a lot on your mind recently. So what, did it just come in or something? Iâm sure the snowstorm probably delayed whatever it was.â
âOh! Yeah⊠Right! Your Christmas present, thatâs what this is all about, haha,â he says, fumbling around, then heads into the room to find the small box. The little angel on his shoulder was shouting at him to turn back around that instant to tell you the truth. Meanwhile, the little, insecure Suguru on the other side sighed a breath heâd been holding in, glad to take a moment to collect himself. He reached into his bedside drawer and reappeared in the hallway to meet you.
âMerry belated Christmas, my love,â he whispers, presenting the box.
âYouâre not proposing to me, right?â You eye him, breaking the palpable tension in the air, âbecause there is usually a part where you get on one knee and then thereâs the speech.â
âNo, no,â he laughs, ânot yet at least,â he says with a wink, âgotta chase our dreams first.â
You open the tiny black box to be met with a small silver ring without a gemstone, but rather small engravings.Â
Forever it read on the outside
⥠Sugu, it read on the inside.
âItâs a promise,â he starts, âa promise to forever be yours.â
He steps closer with every word, âa promise to forever be supporting you, near or far. A promise to love you even when you donât love yourself.â
âAnd lastly,â tears pricked your eyes as you stared down at the ring, he was so close that his breath fanned across your skin, âItâs a reminder that no matter how much of a dream this opportunity is, that you, you y/n, are my dream.â
He slots the ring on your manicured pinky before sliding his to intertwine with yours, âI promise, that I love you.â
Time stood still at that moment. Nothing could pull you two apart. Standing together with pinkies interlocked.
âI love you, dream and all.â
âI love you forever.â
âDream and all.â
â
âFinally theyâre here!âÂ
Yuji outdid himself with this party. Lights were strung up along the ceiling and banisters, bottles of alcohol lined the kitchen tables, and so many people were there that they had to park around the block.
As his heart sank with the weight of his secret, the party continued in the background. The music was loud, and people were dancing and laughing, unaware of the turmoil.
Confetti rained down from the ceiling, and balloons bounced around the room, adding to the festivities, but he couldn't bring himself to enjoy any of it. All he could think about was the fact that he was leaving and that he had hurt the one person he cared about more than anything.
As the night wore on, he felt himself becoming more and more detached from the party.Â
Many people came up to him with words of encouragement, pride beaming on their faces as his band would go on to make your small town proud.
He watched as people wrote their New Yearâs hopes on small pieces of paper and then taped them to the wall, their faces filled with excitement and anticipation. A couple of hours in, he sees you being whisked every which way by friends who were visiting home from university, and he smiles, knowing you have been looking forward to seeing them all year. His heart was heavy as he looked around the festive New Year's Eve party. The excitement of the countdown to midnight, the laughter, and the clinking of glasses all seemed to fade as he thought about what he had to do.
But he couldn't join in their celebration.
He knew that when the clock struck midnight, his world would be completely different.
âTick-tock, Cinderella,â Sukuna whispers into Geto's ear while passing by and then pointing at the clock above.Â
One more hour till midnight.
âWanna dance for a bit?â he heard your voice from next to him, âor are you too busy being broody in the corner?â
Much to his dismay, you pulled him onto the dance floor. He couldnât ignore the gnawing feeling in his chest as your hips melted into the rhythm of the song, your arms snaking up to his neck. He felt multiple sets of eyes land on you two, some filled with love, others in sadness, and some people even raised their cups in solemn of whatâs to become of you two.
In just a few short hours, Domain would be leaving for Japan, pursuing the dream that you both talked so highly of. It was an opportunity that would change his life, but it also meant leaving behind everything he knew and loved.
He looked around the room, friends he grew up with, family that supported him through everything, you, you being his world. Was he really ready to leave this life?
âGirl, if I were you Iâd be fucking him into the next year!â a drunk girl slurred while bumping into you two.
âI mean I plan on it!â you chuckled while trying to steady her rocking frame.
âI donât know how youâre able to do it y/n⊠long distance that already sucks⊠him having to keep you a secret for the rest of his life? Damn, thatâs even worse.â
Feeling flustered by the truth, you begin to talk down the reality, âOh, I feel secure enough in my relationship! I know Sugu is just doing what he has to do for his career, but that doesnât mean he loves me any less! We have great communication-â
âPshh, communication my ass! Did he even tell you that they leaveââ
âOkay! Thatâs enough! Too much to drink as always, Utahime, huh?â He shushes her while pulling her to a couch to lie down.
âOh fuck off, Geto, if you donât want to tell her, Iâll tell her myself because you are too much of a pussy boy to do so!â she yells while being thrown onto the couch.Â
Gathering his wits, he makes his way back to you.Â
âWhat was that all about? What are you not telling me?â you ask, taking a step forward.
âDonât worry about it, babe, you know Utahime gets too drunk at parties and keeps saying shitâŠâ Geto sweats.
âWait, you know that is weird because Miwa also brought up something along the lines of âOh wow, he hasnât told you yet?â when I was talking to her earlier⊠what are you hiding?â You suddenly feel the bottle of soju you had earlier.Â
âNot here, please, not nowâŠâ he pleads, frantically looking around as people start to be intrigued by the madness happening in front of them.
âNo, tell me now. New year, no secrets!â you stomp.
When the countdown finally began, Suguru felt a sense of dread wash over him. He knew that once the new year began, his life would be changed forever.Â
âFor fucks sake,â he says before pulling you outside.
He looked over at you, who was standing with your back turned to him. He wanted to go over to you, just hold you, to apologize, to make things right, but he knew that it was too late.Â
He had to face the truth.
âYou have ten seconds to tell me,â you say with crossed arms, chests pressed against each other.
As if on cue, he hears the crowd from inside the house start the countdown into the new year.
10!
âI have been keeping a secret.â
9!
âI havenât been able to find the right words to tell you.â
8!
âI did pass my audition, and I will leave for Japan soon.â
7!
âMy manager called the other day to tell me I'm leaving on Christmas.â
6!
âBut I got an extension.â
5!
âWhen do you leave Suguru?â you ask with a shaky breath, eyes clouded with tears, as you stand watching the man you love break down.
4!
âI love you, y/n, donât forget that.â he chokes out.
3!
âWhen do you leave Suguru Geto?!â you scream at him.
2!
Time stilled as he just stared at you with a trembling lip.Â
1!
âI leave today.â
As the countdown ended, and the room erupted into cheers, fireworks went off from the backyard. He felt a sense of emptiness inside.Â
âHappy New Year!â was ringing in his ears, the festivity inside contrasting the pit in his stomach. He knew that he was supposed to be celebrating, but he couldn't find it in himself to do so. All he could do was watch as you slowly walked backward, face twisted with pain.
You both stood there, both lost in your thoughts, as the new year began. And as the party continued around him, he felt more alone than ever before.Â
"What? When were you going to tell me? You waited till the day of?"
"I didn't know how," he said, his voice barely audible over the sound of the cheers. "I didn't want to hurt you."
You took another step back, tears streaming down your face. "You're leaving me?"
Suguru reached out to touch you, but you pulled away. "No, y/n, it's not like that. I just..."
âYou didnât what?â you whispered, finally stepping forward, him retreating backwards, âYou didn't do what, Geto!â finally yelled.
âYou lied! You lied to my face, of all secrets to keep, you kept this. For what? Think I couldnât take it? Couldnât bear the fact youâd be chasing your dreams? What is it?â you screamed, pushing him with each sentence.
He took every beating, the punishment for his personalized brand of torture he put you through. You hit his chest as he stood, taking in every blow, face and body empty, a shell of the man youâve come to love.Â
âSo much for forever right?â you finally stop, âso much for dreams and all.â
âBaby,â he pleads, âbaby please donât.â
âNo, becauseâŠâ You lift your face, running your hands through your hair, your ring getting caught in the tangles, reminding you of his promise, âfuck this Geto. This really was never going to work.â
âYou donât. You donât mean that,â he shakes his head, reaching out for you.
âI fucking mean it,â you say while staring at him and taking off the ring and throwing it on the ground, âI hope it works out for you, Geto, I really do. Dreams and all.âÂ
You left Suguru there as he fell to his knees, cradling the ring that symbolizes everything you meant to him. The real engagement ring in his pocket never felt heavier in his pocket.
SYNPOSIS: as you and gojo grow closer by the seasons, it seems the two of you notice the underlying tension ready to burst. but, it's better to ignore it. . .right? pretending to be just friends when carving pumpkins is nothing short of a hangoutâyeah.
WARNINGS! mentions of carving with sharp tools, fluff
WC. 1.5k
THE AUTUMN BREEZE carried a hint of chill, but the sunlight kept you warm as you sat next to Gojo on the porch, pumpkins scattered around the two of you like blank canvases waiting for a masterpiece. You picked up a carving knife, rolling it between your fingers as Gojo leaned back, arms stretched lazily behind him.
âSo,â you started, eyeing the pile of pumpkins, âyou ready to actually carve these, or are you just going to sit there and supervise?â
He smirked, his sunglasses glinting in the light. âIâm thinking about it. Pumpkin carving is serious business, after all.â
âSerious?â you raised an eyebrow, clearly unimpressed. âYou? Serious?â
He chuckled, the angle he sat at pushing his glasses down slightly to meet your eyes. âHey, I can be serious when I want to be. Iâm just considering my options.â He turned his back to you and picked up the biggest pumpkin of the bunch, turning it over as if to judge its worth. âThis one looks promising. Classic shape, good color.â
You snorted. âItâs a pumpkin, Gojo. They all look the same.â
He grinned in response, setting the pumpkin down in front of him. âSee, thatâs where youâre wrong. A true artist appreciates the subtle differences.â
âOh, so youâre an artist now?â
He flashed you a playful look, grabbing a carving tool. âI have many talents. You should know that by now.â
âYeah, sure,â you muttered under your breath, focusing on your own pumpkin as you began sketching out a design. âBut Iâm willing to bet my pumpkin turns out better than yours.â
Gojo shakes his head, a hint of a laugh meets the brief silence. âOh, you want to make this a competition?â
âIsnât everything with you a competition?â you teased, drawing the first line into the orange skin.
He didnât deny it. âAlright then. Letâs see who can make the most impressive pumpkin.â
You both got to work, the sound of scraping and cutting filling the comfortable silence between you. Occasionally, youâd glance over at Gojo, his brows furrowed in concentration as he carefully cut into the pumpkin. He was taking it seriously, which only made you smile.
âWhat are you going for?â you asked after a few minutes.
âSomething classic,â he replied, still focused on his pumpkin. âBut with a twist.â
âYou always have to add some dramatic flair, donât you?â
He shrugged, not looking up. âItâs who I am.â
You shook your head, turning back to your own work. âIâm going for simple but cute. Something that actually looks like a pumpkinââ, you pause to glance at Gojos art. âunlike whatever youâre doing.â
âOh, this is going to look like a pumpkin,â he said, his voice teasing. âJust. . .a better one than yours.â
You rolled your eyes, but you couldnât help the smirk that tugged at your lips. âWeâll see about that.â
Quiet minutes passed, and the pile of pumpkin guts between you grew. You were almost finished with your design when Gojo let out a dramatic sigh, wiping the sweat off his forehead as if to prove his point.
âIâm pretty sure Iâm a genius,â he said, leaning back to admire his work.
âModest as always,â you muttered, setting your carving tool down and wiping your hands on a towel nearby. âLetâs see it then.â
Gojo grinned, turning his pumpkin around for you to see. It was surprisingly good, compared to other works heâs done. The lines were clean, the design intricate but not overdone. Heâd carved a sharp, fierce face into the pumpkin, with jagged eyes and a mischievous grin.
âOkay,â you pause, tilting your head as you inspected it. âThatâs actually not bad.â
âNot bad?â he repeated, his voice full of mock offense. âCome on, you can give me more credit than that.â
You crossed your arms, fighting the smile that creeps up on your lips. âItâs alright. But mineâs still better.â
He raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. âAlright, letâs see it then.â
You turned your pumpkin around, revealing the cute, simple face you had carved. It was a classic jack-o-lantern designânothing too fancy, but clean and neat. Gojo stared at it for a second before letting out a low whistle.
âCute,â he said, leaning in to get a closer look. âBut safe.â
âSafe?â you repeated, your eyes narrowing. âWhatâs that supposed to mean?â
He shrugged, still smiling. âJust saying, you couldâve taken a few more risks. Gone for something a bit moreâ,â he stops for quick second to look up at your eyes. âexciting.â
âI donât need to overdo it to make something good,â you shot back. âSometimes, simple is better.â
Gojo chuckled, leaning back and crossing his arms behind his head. âYou really think thatâs going to win against my masterpiece?â
âIâm not trying to win,â you said, tossing a piece of pumpkin guts at him. âIâm just trying to make something that doesnât look like itâs about to eat someone.â
He caught the pumpkin piece, tossing it aside with ease. âYou say that like itâs a bad thing.â
You rolled your eyes again, but you couldnât hide your smile that toned your voice. âFine, Mr. Genius. Letâs call it a tie.â
He tilted his head, pretending to think it over as he sat still for a moment. âA tie, huh? I donât know. I feel like I came out on top here.â
âOh, please,â you scoffed. âYou just want to win everything.â
âI mean,â he said, flashing you a grin, âcan you blame me? Winning is fun.â
You laughed, shaking your head. âYouâre impossible.â
âAnd yet, you still hang out with me,â he pointed out, leaning a little closer.
You bumped his shoulder with yours, smiling softly. âYeah, well, somebody has to keep your ego in check.â
Gojo chuckled, his voice softening just a bit. âYouâre probably the only one who could.â
The air between you shifted slightly, the playful banter fading into something a little more comfortableâmore personal. His arm brushed against yours as you both sat back, looking out at the sunset. You could feel the warmth radiating from his body, a little closer than usual, but neither of you made any effort to move apart. Seemingly a silent mutual agreement to soak it in while it lasts.
âYou know,â he said after a moment, his voice quieter, âas sappy as it is, we do make a good team.â
You glanced at him, your heart skipping a beat at the way his eyes softened when he looked at you, like he was seeing more than just the pumpkins in front of you. âYeah,â you replied, your voice barely above a whisper. âWe do.â
Gojoâs hand brushed yours, the contact lingering for just a second too long, and for a moment, you thought he might say something more; not if your heart beating out of your chest did it for him first. But instead, he smiled that same playful grin, breaking the tension with a wink.
âYouâre not gonna get all sentimental on me now, are you?â he teased.
You shoved him lightly, trying to hide the heat rising to your cheeks. âAs if. I just didnât want to crush your spirit too much after beating you in pumpkin carving.â
Gojo laughed, the sound light and easy, but there was something in his expression that stayed soft, even as he joked with you. âYou really think you won, huh?â
âI know I did,â you said confidently, standing up and stretching. âBut you can have your little victory if it makes you feel better.â
Gojo stood up as well, his height towering over you in a way that made your heart skip again. He reached out, ruffling your hair before you could stop him. âYouâre cute when youâre competitive, you know that?â
You swatted his hand away, glaring up at him. âIâm always cute.â
He chuckled, leaning in just a bit closer; making his features more vibrant. He grinned at your flushed face and stepped back, picking up a couple of candles to place inside the pumpkins.
It was a known thing for Gojo to be a flirt. But as time passed between the two of you, it got more personal. He seemed to love to take advantage of the fact.
As the two of you lit the pumpkins, the soft glow of the candles flickering through the carved designs, you couldnât help but steal a glance at Gojo. The way the warm light played off his features, the subtle smirk that never seemed to leave his faceâit made your heart race in a way you werenât quite ready to admit.
âAlright,â Gojo said, breaking your trance as he stepped back to admire the glowing pumpkins. âIâll give you thisâyou did a good job.â
You smiled, leaning into his side as you both looked at your creations. âYou too, Gojo.â
He glanced down at you, that familiar playful glint in his eyes. âFirst compliment of the evening, could get used to this.â
You rolled your eyes, but your smile widened. âDonât expect much.â
âToo late,â he said, throwing an arm around your shoulders and pulling you in closer. âYouâre stuck with me now.â
And even though you playfully pushed him away, you didnât move too far. Because maybe, just maybe, you didnât mind being stuck with him after all.

Chapter 01 â Doesnât matter (It does)
SHOKO'S POV
âCanadaâs Shane Hollander. And Russiaâs Ilya Rosanov.â
Before the scene could even finish, I reached for the remote and shut the TV off. The screen went dark mid-dramatic pause, like Iâd personally offended whatever director thought mixing sports and romance was a good idea. The room fell quiet again, except for the low city hum outside. I dropped onto the couch beside Utahime like nothing happened.
Utahime blinked at me. âYou didnât even let it play.â
I leaned back, tossing the remote onto the table without looking. âI didnât need to. I already know how it ends.â
âOh? Youâve seen it before?â she asked dryly.
âSame script every time.â I stretched my legs out. âTwo attractive people from opposite sides of the planet hate each other, glare a lot, then suddenly theyâre making out like itâs an Olympic sport.â
Utahime gave me a look. âThatâs⊠a very specific summary.â
âAnd an accurate one.â
She crossed her arms. âSo you turned it off because youâre a critic now?â
âI turned it off because I have standards.â
âSince when?â
âSince always,â I said immediately. I clicked my tongue. âAnywayââ I gestured vaguely at the blank TV. âWhatâs up with two dudes kissing anyways? Itâs not that interesting.â
âYou sound like youâre projecting,â Utahime said.
I blinked. âExcuse me?â
Her eyes flicked briefly to the dark TV, then back to me. Calm. Too calm. âYouâre reacting pretty strongly for something you claim is ânot interesting.ââ
I scoffed. âItâs not a reaction. Itâs a critique.â
âUh-huh.â
âIâm serious,â I said, gesturing vaguely at the screen like it had personally offended me. âTheyâre always making it such a big deal. Like, congratulations, two people like each other. Why does it have to be broadcastedââ I paused, searching for the right word.
Utahime raised a brow. âSo your issue is the broadcasting?â
âYes.â
âNot the fact that itâs two men?â
I didnât hesitate. âNo.â However, Utahime still didnât look convinced.
ââŠWhat?â I asked.
She leaned back slightly, still watching me like she was reading something between the lines. âYou just said âtwo people like each otherâ like thatâs the problem. Not the rivalry, not the dramaâjust⊠them liking each other.â
âThatâs not what I said.â
âItâs very close to what you said.â
I clicked my tongue. âYouâre being weird about this.â
âIâm not,â she said lightly. âIâm just listening.â
âThatâs your problem. You listen too much.â
âYou talk too much.âÂ
I didnât answer right away. Didnât have one, actually. Because the more I thought about it, the more it felt like she wasnât talking about the movie anymore. And I hated that. Hated how easily she could do thatâreach past whatever I was saying and land somewhere I hadnât meant to show. Like everything I kept vague, everything I brushed off or made smaller than it was, didnât stay that way when she was around. It said more about me than it did about her. About how quickly my guard slipped without me noticing. How conversations that shouldâve stayed light somehow⊠didnât. Not with her. Never with her.
I shifted slightly, eyes fixed anywhere but her.
It was stupid, really. The way things felt different when it was just us. The way certain words sat heavier in my chest, like they meant more than I was willing to admit. Like if I let them linger too long, theyâd turn into something I wouldnât be able to brush off with a joke. Something harder to explain. Harder to ignore.
I exhaled quietly, forcing my thoughts back into something simpler. Safer. It didnât have to mean anything. It was just Utahime.
She was my friend.
That was all it was supposed to be.
I was snapped back to reality when Utahime suddenly stood up. âIâm gonna make coffee,â she said, already turning toward the kitchen like the conversation had been neatly filed away.
âMake some for me too,â I added quickly. âMake sureââ
âOnly two scoops of creamer and one scoop of sugar,â she cut in without hesitation. âI know, Shoko.â
I stopped. Not because she got it right. But because she didnât even have to think about it. But I guess thatâs the thing about Utahime. She didnât guess things about meâ she knew them. Itâs always been like this. Still⊠who was I to read more into it than what it was? Utahime was like that with everyone. The kind of person who remembered details because she cared enough to, not because they meant anything special. Just a good friend.
To everyone.
How I wish she wasnât so nice.Â
âShoko, whatâs on your mind?â Utahime asked, glancing over at me while stirring the coffee.
I stopped myself mid-thought.
ââŠNothing,â I said quickly.
Too quickly.
The word came out before I even had time to decide if I meant it, which was exactly the problem. It always was with herâshe didnât need me to say things clearly. She just needed me to slip once. From the kitchen, her voice stayed calm, almost absent-minded as she kept stirring.
âYou only say ânothingâ like that when itâs definitely something.â
I clicked my tongue. âItâs called privacy.â
âItâs called avoidance,â she corrected immediately.
No hesitation. No pause. Like sheâd already categorized it somewhere in her head and was just choosing when to say it out loud.
I exhaled sharply, dragging a hand down my face.
âYouâre annoying,â I muttered. âStop doing that. You talk like you already know everything about me.â
Utahime didnât answer right away. The spoon in her hand slowed, then stopped entirely. When she spoke, her voice was quieter than beforeânot softer, just more certain.
âI donât want to know everything about you,â she said. A pause.
âI just want to know what you wonât say out loud.â
ââŠAnyway.â
The word came out too casual. Too sharp. Like I was cutting the moment before it could settle into anything real.
Utahime didnât respond immediately. I could hear her set the spoon down in the sink, water running lightly after that. Normal sounds. Easy sounds. Like she hadnât just said something that made my brain go inconveniently quiet.
I sat up slightly.
âSo,â I said again, faster this time, âI made plans.â
A pause from the kitchen.
ââŠYou made plans,â she repeated. âWith who?â
I exhaled. âSuguru. Gojo. Nanami.â Utahime didnât react much, but I still caught the faint shift in her expression at Gojoâs name. âSounds loud,â she said.
âIt is.â
Another pause. Then I added, a little too quickly, âYou should come.â That made her stop. She looked like sheâd been expecting itâbut wanted to see if Iâd actually say it properly.
Utahime tilted her head slightly. âWhy?â
I shrugged. âJust⊠so the groupâs complete.â
ââŠSo the group is complete,â she repeated slowly.
âYeah.â
A beat.
Then, quieterâ
âReally?â she asked.
That one word landed heavier than it shouldâve.
I frowned. âWhat?â Utahime leaned lightly against the counter, arms loosely crossed now. Not pressing. Not accusing. Just patient. âIs that really why you want me there?â she asked. I clicked my tongue again, looking away. âDonât overthink it.âÂ
âIâm not,â she said simply. âIâm asking.â Silence stretched. Not empty this time. Just exposed. I opened my mouth. Closed it again.
ââŠItâs just a hangout,â I said finally. âThatâs all.â
Utahime hummed softly, like she was considering how generous she wanted to be with that answer. Then she pushed off the counter and walked a little closer. Not into my space. Just close enough that I couldnât pretend she wasnât looking right at me.
âShoko,â she said. My name sounded different when she said it like that.
âYeah?â I replied, already bracing myself.
Her gaze didnât waver.
âTry again,â she said quietly.
ââŠItâs really not that serious,â I muttered, rubbing the back of my neck.
âI didnât say it was.â
âThen why are youââ
âBecause youâre avoiding the question,â she cut in.
I let out a quiet breath, something between a sigh and a laugh. âGod, youâre persistent.â
âI know.â
Silence settled between us again, but this time it didnât feel like pressure.
It felt like she was giving me time. Which was worse.
I leaned forward, elbows on my knees, staring down at my hands.
ââŠItâd be better if you were there,â I said finally.
âYouâre really bad at this,â she said. I huffed a small laugh. âYeah. Iâve been told.â
A pause.
âBut you still asked me to come anyway,â she added.
I looked at her. ââŠYeah,â I admitted. That seemed to be enough. Utahime nodded once. âIâll go,â she said.
I blinked. âThat easy?â Utahime turned slightly, reaching for the coffee sheâd left behind. âIt wasnât hard,â she replied. I frowned faintly. âYou were full on interrogating me.â
âI was just waiting,â she corrected. âFor what?â She glanced at me over her shoulder. âFor you to say something honest.â
âAnd you almost did.â She added. And before I could figure out what to do with that, she handed me my cup like nothing had changed at all.Â
I took the cup from her, the warmth settling into my hands in a way that felt groundingâtoo grounding.
âThanks,â I muttered, already looking away. Utahime hummed in acknowledgment, like that was enough. It always was, with her. I took a sip, more out of habit than anything, then set the cup down a little too quickly.
âI should⊠go finish some papers,â I said, pushing myself up from the couch. âGot a few things from school Iâve been putting off.â Utahime glanced at me. Not surprised.
âNow?â
âYeah.â
Then she nodded. âAlright.â
So I turned and headed down the hallway, the sound of my own footsteps feeling louder than usual against the quiet of the apartment. I could still hear faint movement behind meâthe soft clink of her cup, the rustle of fabric as she settled back onto the couch.
Normal. Everything was normal.
I closed my door behind me with a soft click. And just like that, the silence changed. My room felt smaller than I remembered. Or maybe it was just quieter in a way that didnât have her in it. I stood there for a moment, staring at my deskâpapers scattered, pen uncapped, everything exactly where I left it earlier. Proof of the excuse I had just made.
ââŠRight,â I muttered.
I didnât move toward it. Instead, I let out a slow breath and dropped onto my bed, the mattress dipping beneath me as I stared up at the ceiling. The same ceiling. Different silence. My mind didnât go to the papers. It went back to the living room.
To her voice.
âTry again.â
I clicked my tongue softly, shifting onto my side.
ââŠAnnoying,â I murmured.
The more I replayed it, the more it didnât sound like she was trying to corner me. It sounded like she was trying to get me to meet her somewhere. Somewhere I kept stopping just short of. I exhaled slowly, dragging a hand over my face. She wasnât anything complicated. She was my friend. That was it. Thatâs what Iâd always called her.
What everyone called her.
But the word friend just felt⊠incomplete. Not wrong, just not enough. I pressed the back of my hand against my eyes for a moment, like that would somehow stop the thoughts from forming fully. Because once they did, I knew they wouldnât stay small. And I didnât have anything to replace them with. I let my hand fall back to the bed, staring up at the ceiling again. ââŠThis is stupid.â I muttered.Â
I reached for my phone, hoping it would distract me from my thoughts. It didnât. If anything, it made it worse. The screen lit up, and somehowâunsurprisinglyâit was still her. I opened Instagram. Utahime. Her posts, her photos, the same quiet, put-together version of her that everyone else saw. I scrolled past one, then another, not really looking but not stopping either. I switched apps.Â
TikTok. Still her. Reposts I didnât remember liking but had watched anyway. Things she found funny. Things she found meaningful. Things that made sense in a way I didnât bother trying to understand, but still watched through to the end.
I clicked out again.
Twitter. And there it was. Her accountâfilled with those long, half-coherent rants that somehow looped back into something thoughtful if you read them twice. Things that didnât make sense at first glance, but felt⊠intentional.
I stared at one longer than I meant to. Then another. And then a post about that stupid show.
Heated Rivalry.
I frowned, thumb hovering over the screen. âSeriouslyâŠâ I muttered under my breath. âWhatâs up with that show anyway?â
I remembered our conversation earlier in the living room.
âYou sound like youâre projecting.â
I clicked my tongue softly, letting my phone drop onto my chest.
ââŠMaybe I was.â The thought sat there longer than I liked. Because the more I turned it over, the less I could deny it. Maybe I was reacting too strongly. Maybe I was making it a bigger deal than it needed to be. But could you blame me? I stared up at the ceiling again, the faint glow of my phone still lighting the edges of my vision. Itâs just⊠unfair
Unfair how easy it was for other people to be so open about it.So loud and so unapologetic. Like it didnât cost them anything to exist like that and to be seen, to be obvious, to not have to second-guess every little thing. And it pissed me off more than it shouldâve. Because I wasnât like that. I didnât care about what people thought. Never had. I said what I wanted, did what I wanted, and let everyone else deal with it after. That was how it worked.
So why did this feel different? Why did the idea of being that open feel so⊠off?
I exhaled slowly, pressing the heel of my palm against my forehead. âWhy am I even thinking of thisâŠâ I groaned.
A knock broke through the quiet. âShoko,â Utahime called from the other side of the door. âDo you want to eat dinner outside?â I stared at the ceiling for a second longer, like if I didnât move, sheâd just⊠go away. âIâm busy with my papers,â I replied.
âI can hear you tossing and turning on your bed.â
I closed my eyes. Of course she could. I let out a quiet breath, dragging a hand over my face. ââŠYouâre unbelievable.â
âAnd youâre a bad liar.â she said
ââŠGo without me,â I muttered. âIâll eat later.â
âShoko.â
The way she said my name made something in my chest tighten. I pushed myself up from the bed. âOkay, okay,â I said, louder this time. âIâm coming. Iâll just change my shirt.â
âTake your time,â Utahime replied.
I pulled a random shirt from the hanger, not really paying attention to what it was, just needing something⊠to do something normal. Something that didnât involve thinking too hard about why I got up so quickly just because she said my name. I slipped it on, adjusting the fabric absentmindedly before glancing at myself in the mirror.
Nothing different. Same face, same expression. Same everything.
Exceptâ
I hesitated for a second.
Then shook my head.
ââŠItâs just dinner,â I muttered.
Nothing more.
The place we ended up in wasnât anything special. Just some small restaurant tucked into the corner of a quiet streetâdim lighting, a few scattered tables, the faint clatter of dishes coming from the kitchen. The kind of place you wouldnât notice unless you were already looking for somewhere to sit down. Utahime had picked it. Of course she did. She always went for places like thisâquiet, out of the way, easy to disappear into.
We sat across from each other, menus open but barely looked at. I skimmed through mine out of habit, not really reading anything.
âYouâve been on that page for a while,â Utahime said.
âIâm deciding.â
âYouâre not.â
I glanced up at her. âYou donât know that.â
âI do.â
I clicked my tongue, flipping the page anyway just to prove a point. âYou assume too much.â
âYou hesitate too much.â
That made me pause. ââŠI do not.â
Utahime didnât argue. She just looked at me for a second, like she didnât need to. I looked back down at the menu. ââŠIâll just get whatever,â I muttered.
âOf course you will.â
âDonât start.â
âI didnât say anything.â She exhaled softly, almost amused.
The waiter came by not long after, and we ordered without much thoughtâsomething simple, something easy. The kind of choices that didnât require too much attention. When he left, the silence settled again. I tapped my fingers lightly against the table, then stopped when I realized I was doing it. Utahime noticed. She always did.
âSo,â she said, folding her menu and setting it aside. âYou abandoned your papers for this. Thanks.â
âI didnât abandon them.â
âYou did.â
âI postponed them.â
She raised a brow. âFor dinner.â
âFor food,â I corrected.
âWith me.â
I paused.
ââŠYeah.â
The word came out quieter than I meant it to. Utahime didnât say anything right away. She just reached for the glass of water in front of her, taking a small sip like she was giving me time to take that answer back if I wanted to. I didnât. Instead, I leaned back slightly, trying to ignore the way the moment stretched just a little longer than it shouldâve. ââŠDonât read into it,â I added.
âI wasnât,â she said. âBut you always think I am.â
I frowned faintly, looking away. Because that was the problem. She didnât need to read into anything. Because she just⊠understood it anyway.
And sitting across from her like thisânothing special, nothing different, just dinner in some random placeâit still didnât feel as simple as I kept telling myself it was.
ââŠThis place is nice,â I said, like that was a normal thing to say.
It came out a little flat, a little delayed, like I was only just realizing I should probably say something. Anything. The silence between us had started to feel too noticeable again, and I didnât like how quickly my mind tried to fill it with thoughts I wasnât interested in having right now.
Utahime glanced around briefly, taking in the small, dim restaurant like she was checking something only she could see.
âIt is,â she said simply.
I nodded slowly, like that explained something. It didnât.
It shouldnât have mattered that she agreed. It was just a place. Just a table. Just dinner. But the way she said it made it feel like sheâd already decided this was a good place to be, and I found myself wondering if that included me sitting across from her, or if I was just part of the background that came with it.
âYou come here often?â I asked, before I could overthink the question too much.
âSometimes.â
That answer fit her too well. Simple and controlled. Like she only ever revealed what was necessary, and even then only in pieces small enough to fit comfortably in a conversation without changing its shape too much.
I nodded again, slower this time, like I was trying to make sense of something I didnât have all the information for. It still didnât make sense. But nothing about her really needed to be explained out loud for her to understand it. That was the problem. Or maybe not the problem. I wasnât sure anymore.
The food arrived not long after, breaking whatever thread of silence had started forming between us. Plates set down carefully, utensils clinking lightly against ceramic, the kind of normal noise that was supposed to make things easier. More grounded. More real. I stared at the food for a second too long before picking up my utensils.Â
ââŠSo,â I said finally, forcing my voice into something casual, something neutral. âWhat made you pick this place?â
It wasnât a deep question. It shouldnât have been. But I still found myself watching her a little more closely after I said it, like I was bracing for an answer I couldnât predict.
âItâs quiet,â she said.Â
That was it. That was it
Simple. No extra explanation offered or needed.
And somehow, that made it worse.
Because it wasnât just about the restaurant. It never was with her. It was the way she chose things like thisâquiet places, steady spaces, things that didnât demand too much noise or performance. Things that felt intentional without ever needing to be announced.
I stared down at my plate, suddenly aware of how much louder my own thoughts felt compared to everything else.
ââŠRight,â I murmured, mostly to myself.
Of course she picked a place like this. Of course she always did things like that. There was always intention behind her choices, even when she made them look effortless. Even when she made them look like they didnât mean anything more than what they were. And I couldnât stop myself from wondering if I was one of those choices too.
I took a bite of food just to interrupt my own thoughts, focusing on chewing, on swallowing, on anything that kept me from following that line any further. Across from me, Utahime ate like nothing had shifted at all. Like I wasnât sitting there thinking too much.Â
Like she didnât already know I was.

You were terrible at math. You had to take six math classes in high school just to pass two, and the two you managed to pass had both been senior year. The relief you had felt after the panic of not knowing whether you would be able to graduate with your class felt like heaven. You swore that youâd never take a math class again.
Somehow it didnât occur to you that you would need to pass two math classes to earn your associates degree. This realization, and the fact that you didnât get any better at it over the summer is precisely what has led you to the library on a Tuesday afternoon to meet the tutor that your professor recommended.
You sighed. You didnât know the guy, but you did know that nobody had ever taught the subject in a way that you were able to understand it, so you didnât have high hopes when your tutor walked up to you⊠well, you didnât have high hopes of learning math, anyway.
âY/N?â He asked, no real emotion on his face⊠his gorgeous, perfect face. This man was built. The black compression shirt highlighting every muscle on his torso, the low slung grey sweatpants doing absolutely nothing to deter your brain from jumping straight into the nearest gutter. Surely this man was an athlete⊠not a math genius⊠right?
âOh. Uh, yes⊠yeahâŠâ your voice was small. You couldnât believe that the god in front of you was your tutor. âYou must be Toji?â Your mouth was dry. You closed your eyes and shook your head trying to clear your brain.
He sat across from you. âWhat exactly are you struggling with?â
âMath.â you said, then closed your eyes again, putting your hand on your face. âIdiot.â you whispered to yourself. Then, âYou knew that. Sorry, Iâm a bit out of my depth here.â You looked at him. One corner of his mouth had quirked up into a small, lopsided grin, pulling your focus to a small scar. âIâm actually just terrible at the subject altogether.â You finished quickly.
âYouâre terrible at being nonchalant, too, from the look of it.â he said drily.
You laughed. âIâm an open book, I canât help it. To be fair, though, who expects their tutor to look like, well⊠like you?â
That earned you a laugh in return âFair enough. Why donât you tell me about your strengths and weaknesses, and we will go from there?â
âWell,â you responded, thinking, âI was fine at basic math, but then they decided to add the alphabet, and I got lost. Iâm a bit better at geometry than algebra, Iâm actually pretty okay with square roots⊠but everything else is just nonsense to me.â you sighed. âI actually enjoy school, I love learning. Science, writing, history⊠Iâm good at those⊠but the moment that math comes into it, itâs like my brain just⊠goes static.â you frowned. âIt makes me feel like a complete moron.â
âYouâre not a moron.â He said. âYouâre in my comparative world religions class. Youâre really smart, actually.â
You blushed, then, realizing that Toji knew who you were before today. âThanks, thatâs kind of you to say.
You looked at each other for a long minute before Toji spoke. âOkay, letâs set up a schedule of when to meet, and see if we can get you to where you need to be. The main problem with math is that everyone teaches it differently, and everyone learns it differently. Which means that itâs mostly a matter of figuring out how you learn best and going from there.
â-
Three weeks had passed of you and Toji meeting three days per week, and you were finally starting to grasp some of the concepts that he had been trying to teach you. It was hard won, even when you werenât with Toji you were trying to figure it out, as you had never been one to give up. Your grades were getting better, and your professor had noticed. You still hated math, but at least you were understanding more of it.
It was Saturday. Your phone chimed with the sound that you had set specifically for Tojiâs messages, and you looked at your phone that sat face down on the desk. Your eyebrows knit together in confusion. You picked up your phone and checked the calendar, making sure that it really was Saturday. Your Toji schedule was Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and this was the first time that he had texted on an off day. Not that you minded, of course. You opened the message, half expecting for something to be wrong.
You blinked, re-reading his messages three times before answering.
You smiled, feeling your cheeks flush hot
â-
At 6:50, you were in the living room sitting on the couch. You were nervous. You liked Toji - a lot, but he hadnât given you any indication that the feeling was mutual until today. You were walking to the bathroom to make sure that you still looked good, again, when there was a knock on your door. You turned around, walked over, and opened it.
Toji was standing there, blushing, with a bouquet of roses and sunflowers. You gasped. You didnât remember telling him that they were your favorite flowers, but you figured that you must have. You smiled, and from the look on his face, youâd think that you were a goddess.
âToji! Theyâre beautiful! Please, come in, let me find a vase to put them in.â You said.
âYou look beautiful.â He said, not moving from where he stood.
You blushed, took the flowers from his hands, and led him into your apartment. âThank you, thatâs sweet.â You answered while reaching under the kitchen sink for your grandmother's crystal vase. You set the flowers up on the counter, and turned to look at Toji.
âYou have a nice place.â He said. âCozy.â
âYeah, itâs small, but itâs just me, and I donât need too much space. I make do.â You two stood quietly for a moment.
âShall, uh.. We go, then?â Toji asked, rubbing the back of his neck.
âOh! Of course.â you said, following him out into the night.
Toji opened the passenger door for you, before getting into his seat and starting the car. You sat in silence for a moment, unsure of what to say, but he spoke first.
âThank you for agreeing to come out with me tonight⊠I wasnât sure that you would.â
âWhat do you mean?â You asked in earnest confusion. âI thought that it was pretty obvious that I like youâŠâ
âI mean,â he sighed, âYes and no? I thought you might, but also, I thought you might just be being nice or something.â
âBut, the day we met⊠you noticed how I looked at you, you made a joke about it.â
âYeah, but being attracted to someone isnât the same as liking them.â He pointed out.
âYeah, thatâs definitely true, I know plenty of attractive men that I wouldnât touch if you paid me to.â You laughed.
âFair enough.â He responded.
âI didnât think you liked me back, though⊠you always seem so focused on the actual tutoring. When I saw that you texted me today, I was so confused.â you admitted.
He looked at you with so much confusion that it made you pause. âHow could I possibly not like you? Iâve been trying to come up with an excuse to talk to you for months. When I heard that I would be tutoring you, I swore that I was going to die.â
You blinked. âWait, seriously?â
âOf course!â He exclaimed. âI mean, youâre beautiful, but youâre also so intelligent. You always have great discourse with the professor in religions class⊠youâre always making me think in new ways. Plus, now I know how kind and funny you are, I had to just suck it up and say something. I was over the moon when you said yes!â
You arrived at the restaurant and were seated. As you looked at Toji over the table, you couldnât help but think that math has finally paid off. Maybe you could learn to hate it a little less.
