𓃡 pariah dogs
{summary: with an empty stomach and an unpaid debt, JJ finds an open door and lets his hunger do the thinking. And Sofia just happens to be the one who stumbles across him rifling through her fridge in the middle of the day…}
{a/n: JJ’s pov. JJ centric. Pre s1. On my rewatch his character has grown on me! And standard insertion of Sofia into the narrative ofc ofc. Channeling her manic pixie dream girl vibe from s3 (affectionate)…}
{warnings: sexual innuendo, mentions of child neglect}

A pariah dog is a type of free-ranging domestic dog that lives in close proximity to human settlements without being owned or controlled by humans. The term comes from the Tamil word 'paraiyar,' meaning outcast or drummer, and has come to refer to any dog in this semi-feral or feral state.
The thing they don’t tell you about being hungry is that it physically hurts.
JJ had woken up with that familiar stab in his stomach signalling to his body he needed food.
Luke had disappeared for a week— gambling on the mainland like he usually did when he ran into a spell of good luck. And all the groceries (if you could call the sparse collection of snack foods and beers that) were now officially gone. He’d gnawed through the last salami stick two nights ago.
So JJ dragged himself out of bed, swiped on some deodorant and went on the look out for sustenance.
He barely reached Main Street where all the food places were— unsupervised stock, perfectly fine leftovers, shops with busted cameras so no one would see him slip ham slices down his pants— before he heard his name being yelled.
“HEY MAYBANK! COME ‘ERE YOU FUCKIN’ MUTT!”
