one thing i am very critical of in the way garf was previously written is that his flirtatiousness and unabashedness definitely went too far or just didn't land in a way that seemed true to his character?
yes, garfield is a flirt, yes garfield is a hopeless romantic, but a lot of these mannerisms (i.e. giving people nicknames, being touchy within reason like putting their arm around his friend's shoulders or hugging them or jumping on their back, complimenting people) are easily just as platonic to him as they are romantic.
but, at the end of the day, he understands boundaries!!! he takes them SO seriously because people's safety and comfort are his utmost priority!! he is also, at the end of the day, a regular decent human being! and i hate hate hate when he is written as someone who does not!
as a mun if it ever seems like i am forceshipping or doing anything i absolutely will pull the reins back on my own bc making things uncomfy and Not Fun is my biggest fear
