Rain.
Spessartine hated rain.
The cold wasnāt an issue, oh no. Neither was the liquid itself, since it wasnāt like it could affect her. No, what she didnāt like were those⦠poofy suspended water molecules that hovered right in front of the sun, blocking the gem from its healing, strength-giving rays. Every time it rained, those puffs of gray would move right in, and Spessartine was denied one of the best things about this planet. To take the vernacular of the squishy beings on this planet, āit suckedā.
So, she was confined to the indoors. Indoors, of course, being the cave she appropriated for herself when she first landed here. It wasnāt a big cave, but it was deep and snug, where she had enough room to stretch and move around while not feeling like she was standing in empty space. Its opening was about as nondescript as the rock wall it was carved into, but when it was dark enough outside, light could be seen coming from within. Then, as you went further along, the air got warmer, and signs of habitation became clear; marks of charcoal on the walls, some becoming fantastical scenes of a Homeworld lost to time; swaths of red cloth adorning the ceiling; an alarming amount of microwave taquito wrappers and Burger Queen chicken fry containers.
Soon, the āatriumā would be revealed, and that was where Spessartine holed herself up. The gem was currently sitting on the ground, tongue being chewed on with sharp teeth, pressing pudgy fingers into the buttons of the 3DS she was holding, mumbling to herself. She was surrounded by a plethora of things, the most prominent being habitats filled with beetles of all shapes and sizes. There were puzzle boxes stacked in a corner, and an easel with an incomplete charcoal drawing in the other. Some paintings hung on the walls, the subject matter usually being humans of interest; Chinese takeout littered another section of the floor (one looked like it was still in useā¦); and a various assortment of earthenware decorated spots of the cave, twisted into vague and bizarre shapes.
No light was set up within the cave, for Spessartine herself produced enough to give a gentle glow to the area. But it was brighter this evening, and it had to do with the small amount of irritation she was feeling for the game in her hands.
āStupid little⦠was it worth it being a hero, Chrom?ā she muttered darkly. āI hope taking that arrow to the face made it a worthy sacrifice.ā A sigh, and a button was clicked to reset the game.
Lost in the virtual world she was, that she heard nothing of the sounds of someone entering her abode.
