Outer Space
For @cliffordchickâs Sounds Good Feels Good series
âPlease keep on holding,â you said through your tears. You felt like you were in outer space, drifting away, but the pressure of Lukeâs hand on yours was your tie back to the world. He was your gravity, as you often liked to tell him. He would reply that you were his oxygen.
Crying wasnât new to you. Ever since you were 11, you had felt enormous amounts of anxiety and depression. Luke had been your savior in disguise. He did something much more important than save you; he gave you the strength to save yourself.
Even now, part of your pain was the fact that you could never repay Luke for the amount he had done for you. You would continue to weigh him down as you were now. Thatâs why you left.
You crept out of the bed you shared with Luke, and grabbed your car keys. You drove to the beach where Luke and you had first kissed. He had told you it was his special place and over the last 3 years it had become yours as well.
As you sat in the sand, everything blurred. You couldnât tell apart the rain and salty ocean water from your tears. You knew what you had done was best for Luke, but it had crushed you. And this time, there was no one to build you back up.Â
Suddenly, you felt fingers interlace with yours. You would know those hands anywhere,
âPlease keep on holding,â she whispered to me. I wondered what I could have done to make her this sad. She was curled in a ball, with raindrops caught in her hair and eyelashes. I just squeezed her hand to let her know I was there.
âIâm so stupid, Luke. I canât even do whatâs best for you because Iâm so selfish,â she said between sniffles.
âWhat do you mean?â I asked, utterly confused by her statement.
âYou deserve better than me. Iâm just some girl who holds you back. You can never have fun on tour because you have to worry about your girlfriend who might have a breakdown at any time. All I do is screw everything up.â
âIf youâre a screw-up then Iâm ten times worse. The reason I text and call you so much is because I canât go a day without hearing your voice. You bring me more happiness than anyone in the world and no amount of breakdowns will ever change that. I need my oxygen as much as you need your gravity. I love you, no matter what,â I finished. She looked up at me in shock.
  âDo you really mean that?â
âEvery last word, and Iâll spend every day for the rest of our lives proving it to you. Youâre not just some girl, youâre my soulmate.â
âIâm sorry, Luke. I didnât mean for all this to happen. I just wanted you to be happy.â
âI am happy, because of you,â I said, booping her nose to make her smile. Suddenly her eyes grew in wonder. I tried to follow her gaze.
âLook at the stars!â she said, her entire face lighting up. I took off my sweatshirt so we could lay on it.
âIâve never seen so many stars in my life,â she whispered, as if the stars might hear her and go away.
âNone of them shine as bright as you, princess,â I said, leaning over to give her a kiss.Â
âNow youâre just being cheesy,â she said with a giggle.
âYou know you love it,â I replied, pressing sloppy kisses all over her face.
Please let me know what you thought! :-)

The Joker to my Harley Quinn

Authorâs Note: Here is the last halloween!Ashton one shot that will be posted. Throughout the week I will be posting one shots for each boy as October comes to a close. Hopefully you enjoy this one as much as I enjoyed writing it!Â
Frat parties werenât really your thing, they werenât really your roommates thing either but Halloween was. When she heard about the annual Halloween party the main fraternity on campus was throwing she came rushing back to your dorm eager to start planning what the two of you would be wearing to the party.
âWe should be something cute like a lady bug or something,â she suggested.
âIâm sure one of the sororities houses will all go as cute insects.â
âI donât think so. I overhead one of them talking and theyâre all going as Victoria Secret models this year since itâs cheap.â
âThatâs actually a really smart idea but not for us,â you smiled. âI have this dress in the back of my closet that would make a great Harley Quinn costume though. Why donât we go as super villains?â
That following weekend, the two of you walked into the fraternity house decked out in your villainess costumes. Yours being Harley Quinn and herâs the very elusive Poison Ivy. And while the two of you had second guess about the tightness of your costumes back at your dorm all of your worries were washed away when you realized that your dresses probably werenât tight enough compared to some of the other costumes.
Considering neither of you had actually been to a college party before, you did what any one else would have done, you linked arms and scurried away from the door and farther into the massive house. With no where else to go, the two of you found yourself in the kitchen where your friend dropped your arm in search of something to drink promising that sheâd come back to get you. You kept your eye on her for a minute before more people started flooding into the kitchen to get their alcohol fixes. It was pretty clear then that the two of you werenât reuniting anytime soon so you left your place in the crowded kitchen in hopes of finding a more open space.
You knew it wasnât the smartest thing to wander around a strangerâs house by yourself while everyone else was preoccupied with setting the mood right in their bodies with the bitter tasting concoctions, but you really had no choice. As you left the kitchen you passed, what you assumed to be, the living room where hundreds of bodies were pressed together while music blared from the sound system. Realizing you wouldnât have any personal space in there you carried on with your search, passing several rooms where questionable noises were echoing until you found the sliding doors that opened up to the back yard. And while there were still lots of people outside lingering around the pool, it was the only spot that allowed you some fresh air. Or at least it was until some wonderful person decided to contaminate the crisp air with the joyous sent of smoke and cancer stricken lungs.
Defeated, you headed back inside the house in the hopes of finding an empty bathroom to hang out in until you could find your roommate. Only navigating around the massive house was seemingly more difficult as more people had trickled in while you were outside. Regardless, you pushed passed people trying your best to be polite about it but growing impatient when couples refused to part to let you through. With no bathroom in sight, you decided to try the upstairs portion of the house and to your luck there was an empty bathroom to the right of the grand staircase. In fact, you were just about to shut the door behind you when you heard a voice.
âYou canât be up here.â
Apologizing quickly, you backed away from the bathroom before turing to face the unknown voice, but nothing could have prepared you for what you eyes landed on when you whirled around.
There standing in front of you was a boy. A boy who towered over you and had the most beautiful hazel eyes you had ever seen â which was saying a lot considering your guilty pleasure television show also starred a dreamy boy with hazel eyes. Not to mention the gorgeous boy in front of you was wearing a Joker costume. One that complimented your Harley Quinn costume rather perfectly in your opinion.
âS-sorry,â you stuttered. âI just couldn't find a bathroom downstairs.â
âItâs to the left of the front door,â he deadpanned, his eyes staring straight into yours.
âRight. Well I guess Iâll head that way then,â you said, turning away from the boy and heading back for the stairs. And even though you didnât want to leave the nice quiet space you knew if you stayed a minute longer you might be kicked out of the house.
âWait,â the boy said, grabbing your wrist and turning you around.
You probably should have been angry about the action but something about those eyes made you feel safe, even if he was a stranger. Boy, would your mom kill you if you said that to her. And yet despite what your motherâs voice mightâve been screaming in your head, you stayed.
âI uh I just wanted to say youâre costume is really good. Definitely better than the sea of lingerie  models downstairs.â
âThanks,â you smiled. âYou make a nice Joker yourself.â
âIâve never seen you around here before,â he said, finally releasing your wrist. âIâm Ashton by the way.â
âY/n. My roommate and I donât really party but sheâs a sucker for Halloween so thatâs why weâre here,â you paused, making sure he was still listening to you. âBut we got separated earlier in the night so Iâve just been wondering around.â
âYouâre brave. I wouldnât want to be walking around the house by myself looking like that. Most of the guys here are assholes.â
âBut youâre not, right?â you teased.
âIf youâre asking if I treat girls like they do then youâre right I donât. Now what do you say we go downstairs? I can get you a drink and maybe search for your friend.â
âWhile that sounds lovely, I donât drink. However, I would love your help in finding my missing roommate,â you smiled.
After an hour of searching the house for your roommate your phone vibrated in your pocket. You breathed a sigh of relief when you saw it was her. Apparently she had left the party forty minutes ago with a boy from her biology class. Needless to say, she was only texting you to warn you not to come back home anytime soon. You relied the information back to Ashton who had been helping you search the whole time.
The two of you were now back in the back yard but thankfully it was less crowded than before. Sighing, you threw yourself on to the grass not really caring if your dress got grass stains on it. You figured Ashton was going to head back inside so when he lowered himself to the ground beside you, you were a bit shocked.
âDonât you want to go inside?â
âWhy? Am I bother you? If I am I will,â he said, getting ready to stand back up until you pushed him back down. âParties really arenât my thing either.â
âBut youâre in a fraternity? Isnât that all you do?â
âTechnically no. We also fundraise for charities but no one ever cares about that,â he huffed. âI only joined to help raise money and meet more people. The party thing just comes with it I guess.â
With nothing else to say you let the silence of the night take over. October had always been your favorite weather month and tonight was the perfect example of that. And even though the clouds were beginning to move over the moon, there was still enough light out for you to make out Ashtonâs defined features. It was only when the air started getting breezier did Ashton break the silence.
âDo you want to go up to my room?â he asked. You must have made a face at his offer though as he was quick to justify. âI mean itâs getting cold out here and since itâs Halloween I have a few scary movies Iâve been wanting to watch but havenât had time to,â he rambled.
You giggled at his nervousness, âscary movies sounds good, but only if we end the night watching a Batman movie. I mean it only seems fit considering our costumes.â
âSeriously?â Ashton asked in disbelief, to which you nodded your head.
It was five minutes later that you found yourself in Ashtonâs dorm room, a pair of his sweats and an oversized fraternity t-shirt being tossed towards you so you could be more comfortable. And while you knew you probably shouldnât stay the night, you didnât care.
âReady?â he asked, patting a spot on the bed for you to join before pressing play.
And while your roommate and you had made a pack at the beginning of the year not to share a bed with any of the sleepy fraternity boys you didnât think actually sleeping in the bed was a total violation of the back and frankly you didnât care. Who knows maybe this frat boy really was the Joker to your Harley Quinn.
âYou know,â he mumbled, as the ending credits for Batman began playing. âThis is the best Halloween Iâve ever had.â

Not My Holiday

Authorâs Note: Here is the plus sized halloween blurb I promised all of you. I really like this one andI hope it makes more of you feel included in this series! Feedback is welcomed! :)Â
Halloween was a skinny girlâs holiday. It was a holiday crafted for those lucky enough to love the body they were given to squeeze into costumes that were priced far too expensive for the lack of fabric they contained. One day of the year where thin girls could prance around in their underwear and show off their toned stomachs and thin faces.
It always had been and it always would be. They just didnât make cute Halloween costumes for bigger girls, not even when those girls are seven year olds dreaming of being a princess but stuck being a generic kid from the 50s because nothing else fits. That was the first year you realized who Halloween was marketed for and the last year you put yourself through the torture of being another generic time period girl instead of a witch or a princess like all of your friends.
If Halloween didnât want to cater to your body than you wouldnât participate in Halloween.
âHey baby,â Luke greeted over the phone. âGuess what I did today?â
âWhatâd you do today?â you asked, mindlessly twirling your hair around your fingers. You studied the strand of hair as it wrapped around your ringless finger â too thick to have any regularly made jewelry on them.
âWell, Ashton was telling me about this Halloween party Charlotte and him are throwing and of course he wants us to go. So I started thinking about what we could be and I think I came up with a great idea!â
âOh yeah?â
âYeah! I know weâre pressed for money so I thought maybe pirates! We could be a cute pirate couple. I can even wear that eye patch!â
You bit your lip nervously, sighing, âI donât know Luke.â
âCome on baby. Itâd be so cute and the costumes arenât too much. I already check. We can go get it this weekend when neither of us have to work,â he rambled.
You didnât have much of an option but to agree with Luke, so thatâs what you did. You agreed to go to the costume shop this weekend despite your hatred for the specialty store. In fact, youâd rather spend your Saturday at the hospital getting your blood drawn than spend thirty minutes inside a Halloween store.
+
Usually you were an early riser, so when you werenât up whistling in the kitchen whipping up your world famous â or maybe Hemmingâs famous â pancakes Luke automatically assumed the worst. Luke rolled over to your side of the bed, snuggling his face into the crook of your neck, his stubble tickling your skin.
âMorninâ,â he mumbled, tossing his slender arm around your soft middle. He pulled you closer, your whole body now pressed against his instead of just his head on your shoulder.
âMorning.â
âAre you feeling okay?â
âMâfine,â you sighed.
Luke knew you were lying. He could tell by the way you refused to look at him, your eyes trained on the ceiling. He withdrew his hand from your torso, placing it on your forehead to asses your temperature, only removing it when he knew you didnât have a fever.
When Luke uncoiled himself from you, you huffed. You didnât want him to leave you alone in the giant bed, you wanted him to hold you instead. He chuckled at your irritation with him, noting that he was only going to go make some breakfast so you could get ready for the day. With no one to cuddle with you got out of bed, taking Lukeâs advice you began to get ready for the day. You stood in the shower, letting the water trickle down while your mind pondered all the possible ways something could go wrong at the store.
Luke and you had been together for three years now and while heâd seen you have a few meltdowns, heâd never seen you break down about your weight before and you intended for that to continue. But something about squeezing yourself into a pirate costume made you uneasy.
Once you were dressed in your most comfortable clothes â today was going to be hard enough without worry if your stomach was going to show when you lifted your hands above your head â you headed downstairs to enjoy breakfast with Luke.
+
The Halloween store was exactly as youâd pictured. It was almost an exact replica of the one you stepped foot in all those years ago that made you swore youâd never step foot in another store, and yet here you were.
âI think the pirate costmes are over there,â Luke said, pulling you towards the back section of the store.
With Luke dragging you, you surveyed the warehouse. You studied the Halloween costumes, noting that every costumed was modeled by the same type of girl as when you were little. And it broke your heart a bit, knowing that there were little girls somewhere that were going to be disappointed with the costumes they could wear just like you were.
When Luke finally stopped tugging you towards the back of the warehouse you put on your brave face. Pushing all the negative thoughts about your prior Halloween experience to the back of your mind in the hopes of having a better experience this time.
Of course the costumes Luke had his eye on were being held in the back instead of on the main floor which meant youâd need someoneâs help to get them. It wasnât a big deal to Luke whoâs tall frame was the only reason he wore a larger size in clothing, but for you it meant everything. You hated asking for help at clothing stores because of the judgmental stares you got when you muttered what size you were looking for.
Luke didnât think like you, though. The thought of you being insecure about your size never crossing his mind when he asked the sales clerk to bring out two pirates costume. He didnât even catch on when you winced at how loud he said your size. He was completely oblivious to the war that you waged against yourself on a daily basis.
The clerk came back shortly, handing both Luke and you your respective costumes and ushering you towards the makeshift fitting rooms at the opposite end of the store.
Luke was practically skipping to the rooms, eager to try on the costume but more excited to make use of the eye patch he had bought a year ago for no reason. It was almost impossible to keep up with his giant steps, your smaller legs having to take three long strides to even stay behind the tall blonde.
âDo you think theyâll let us go in one fitting room?â he asked, a mischievous smirk pulling at the corners of his lips. His lip ring nearly disappearing as he bit down on his lip.
âDonât even think about it,â you glared. You were glad Luke was having fun but this wasnât a joyous occasion for you. And trying to keep up with his joyous mood was making you even more exhausted than standing in the store.
Finally, the two of you were ushered into separate fitting rooms that were next to each other. You pulled the black curtain shut in front of you before turning to look at yourself in the mirror behind you. Fitting room mirrors were supposed to make you look great, the storeâs way of making you buy thing you didnât need but this mirror was worse than the one you had at home. It magnified every imperfection of your body down to your crooked toes.
You took a deep breath before opening the bag your costume was contained in. As expected, they didnât make your costume in the size you needed but the clerk had been kind enough not to point it out; instead, he gave you the biggest size they had which was an extra large. You knew it wasnât going to fit and yet, you tried it on for Lukeâs sake.
Stepping into the fishnet stockings, you were careful not to pull them to forcefully in fear of tearing them completely. And while you managed to get them all the way up, you couldnât help but notice the way your excess skin protruded out of the holes. Another deep breath later and you managed to tug the snug skirt over your stretch marked thighs. You were surprised you had gotten this far but your mood quickly deflated when you realized you couldnât move with the restricting skirt clinging to your waist.
âBaby? Are you dressed?â
âNot yet,â you huffed, fighting with the sleeves of the shirt as you stuck your arms through the thin openings.
The shirt didnât fit. At all. Your arms barely making their way through the openings at the end, and seriously restricting your circulation as the ends dug into the extra skin on your upper arms. The shirt itself didnât make it far past your breasts, sitting taut just below them exposing your soft center way more than the costume was supposed to.
Even though you knew the costume didnât fit you looked at yourself in the mirror, instantly regretting it. There in front of you was the same look of disappointment that youâd witnessed when you were seven years old. The costume did nothing for you, hugging you in every wrong place and making you fatter than you liked to believe you were.
You hadnât cried in a fitting room in quite sometime but all you could do right now was cry Standing ridged in front of the mirror, the costume too tight to allow you to sit down, you let out all of your frustration and disappointment. You tried to stay silent but soon your silent tears came faster, leaving you gasping for air.
âY/N?â you heard Luke mumble.
You didnât know when he came into your room which only made you more upset. Luke wasnât supposed to see you like this. You hated crying in front of him and crying about your weight in front of him was even worse.
âBaby, why are you crying?â
Luke was being distant, his hands unsure if they should scoop you into them. When you looked up at him, his usually bright blue eyes lost all their color completely devastated to see you in this state. As you continued to shake, Luke finally gained the courage to reach out to you. His hands engulfing your body and bringing you as close to his chest as physically possible. Your entire front being crushed into his and yet you still didnât feel better. The usual warmth that brought you so much joy only made you more upset. It wasnât fair that he got to be tall and thin while you were short and fat. It wasnât fair that he looked amazing in his pirate costume while you looked like yours had been shrunken in the wash.
âHey,â Luke whispered, stroking your hair with his calloused hands. With every stroke he let a small shush pass by his lips hoping that it would calm you down. Only when you stopped crying did he put distance between the two of you so he could see you. âWhatâs the matter?â
âIâm fat Luke,â you sniffled, a few stray tears still running down your cheeks.
Luke hesitated for a moment unsure of what to say to make you feel better. âSo what your fat! Iâm fat. Everyone is fat. Who cares?â
âYou donât get it,â you huffed. âIâm not the cute kind of fat. Iâm not the kind thatâs nice to cuddle on. Iâm the ugly fat. The fat that makes you look terrible in clothes and makes you hate Halloween because no costume will ever fit.â
All of sudden you were sobbing again and Luke was holding you completely dumbfounded by your outburst of emotion. He didnât understand where it was coming from. To him, you were a beautiful girl he had fallen head over heels in love with three years ago. He didnât understand how you could hate your body when he loved it so much.
âWhy didnât you tell me?â he whispered.
âBecauseâŚno one wants to date the sad fat girl who looks like a whale in all of her clothes.â
That comment was enough to put Luke over the edge. He was fully supportive of your need to cry over insecurities but he was not going to stand by you while you ridiculed your perfect body.
âListen to me,â he said harshly, using his thumb to tip your head up to his. âYou are a beautiful girl. You look absolutely stunning in all of your clothes. In fact, I have to fight myself not to rip everything you wear off your body. Donât you ever call yourself a whale when itâs the farthest thing from the truth. Youâre not a whale, youâre the stars and my moon, youâre the most beautiful girl Iâve ever laid eyes on.â
Luke wiped the tears from your eyes with his thumb before closing the distance between the two of you. His lips crashing on yours in the hopes of making all of your bad feelings wash away. And for a minute it actually worked, until you remembered you were still wearing the restricting costume.
âI canât breathe,â you gasped, pulling away from Luke. You immediately started stripping the clothing from your body, feeling a hundred times better when you were left in your mismatched underwear.
Luke kissed you a few more times before allowing you to get changed back into your regular clothes. While you changed, he stuffed the pirate costume into the bag eager to get rid of it so you wouldnât be upset again.
âLetâs go home,â he said, taking your hand in his and shuffling out of the store.
Luke and you may have left empty handed that day but you did leave closer than ever. And when you got home Luke made sure to show you just how much he loved every inch of your body, erasing any doubt you had for the time being.
When Halloween did come, Luke and you didnât go as pirates but instead went in pajamas. The costumes were a hit at Ashtonâs landing you two the queen and king titles of the costume contest, something you never could have envisioned yourself winning as an insecure seven year old.
Sure, you werenât cured but maybe just maybe you could start loving Halloween again.

I.
October was the month of tricks-or-treats, but for Michael and you it was mainly just the month of tricks. Or at least that was the case now, after making it a bet last weekend.
The two of you were helping your RA decorate your dorm floor when the idea popped into Michaelâs head. And while it seemed like a harmless bet â whoever scared each other more over the month had to wear a costume of the other oneâs choosing â it wasnât as fun as you expected when the actual scaring happened.
The first time Michael scared you, you were in math class. It had been a particular boring lecture that day, meaning most of your time was spent looking out the large window overlooking the quad. It was something you found comfort in when things got stressful or overly boring like today. There was just something about the way you could watch people wander around campus aimlessly that put you at ease.
At least it was relaxing until a hooded figured appeared behind it and slapped itâs hands to the glass window causing you to jump. You thought you were being discrete about your racing heart but when you turned your attention back to the class everyone was staring at you, including the professor.
âY/N, would you please go tell your friend not to disturb my class again.â
With your professors permission, you excused yourself from the lecture and headed to where Michael had been standing minutes before. Except now instead of looking like a menacing monster, he was rolling on the grass in a fit of giggles. Grabbing him by his feet, you dragged him away from the window where you could properly scold your best friend.
âYou scared the shit out of me.â
âThat was the point,â he said, still giggling.
âYou also got me in trouble.â
âI guess just that makes it extra scary then.â
âYouâre such an ass,â you huffed. âYou better sleep with one eye open tonight.â
II.
There were many things you had learned about Michael over the course of your friendship, one of those being his hatred of spiders. Youâd witnessed his fear first hand during your freshman year of college, when a tiny spider crawled up the walls of the lounge and sent Michael running back to his dorm room screaming like a five year old. Which is precisely why you were going to use his fear against him the next time you hung out. It was October after all.
It was a typical Friday night, the two of you were headed back from the cafeteria after grabbing dinner and the plan was to watch some scary movies to end the night. Little did Michael know that when he walked into his dorm he would be opening the door to his own personal horror movie.
While the two of you were eating dinner, you had enlisted in the help of Michaelâs roommate Calum. It was his job to transform the room into every spidersâ dream web and by the looks of the pictures he had been sending you all night he did a really good job.
âYouâve been staring at your phone all night,â Michael whined. âAm I not your favorite any more?â
âOf course youâre my favorite,â you said, standing on your tip toes to rustle the boyâs already wild hair. âI have a project in one of my classes so thatâs what Iâve been texting about.â
âDo you need to work on it? We donât have to have movie night tonight if youâre busy,â he said, waiting for a response from you he opened his door without bothering to look inside.
You pondered his suggestion a moment longer, only so heâd stay distracted as he walked straight into the makeshift spider web Calum had been working on all evening. The cotton tangled itself into Michaelâs hair and made the hair on his skin stand up. You stayed silent as his face contorted, trying to figure out what was touching him
He drew his eyes away from you to look farther into his room and when he did you got the exact reaction you had been hoping for. Michael quickly untangled himself from the cotton web, a slur of profanities dripping from his tongue. His whole body shook, trying desperately to rid itself from the foreign object, while watching in horror as several spiders crawled from his pillow to the depths of his walls (thank you drama department).
âWhat the fuck,â he shouted, running out of his dorm room.
He didnât get too far though, as you had forgotten to move out of his path when he came barreling towards you. The two of you now lying in a heap on the floor him still slightly screaming while you laughed like never before.
âWhy the hell are there spiders in my room! And why is their web on me?â he asked, still trying to shake the uneasy sensation from his body.
âMaybe they need a new place to stay?â you giggled.
âFuck you,â he glared. âI should have known you were behind this. I thought you promised never to make fun of my fear of spiders.â
âIâm not making fun of it, I just exploited it a bit. And by the look on your face I think it worked,â you smirked. âI think that would make the score tied. Itâs your move Clifford.â
III.
It had been a week since the spider innocent and Michael had yet to retaliate against you. At that point you figured the bet was over. You assumed you had won and Michael just wasnât saying anything because he didnât want you to pick his Halloween costume.
After a busy day all you wanted to do was change into your pajamas and lounge around in your bed, procrastinating on any real responsibilities and watch whatever reality television show was currently on at that moment.
Michael had other plans though. To him the bet wasnât over; in fact, it had barely even started. If you were going to use his fears against him than it was only fair he did the same to you. Which is why he was currently under your bed instead of tucked into his for the night. He just hoped youâd fall asleep soon because the space had gotten a lot smaller now that a human was on the mattress.
While you caught up on the lives of the Kardashians, Michael was laid motionless under your bed, severely regretting skipping dinner to scare you. Of course, his stomach only made noise during the quiet parts making him think that you knew he was under you. But if you did, you never let on so Michael stayed motionless and waited for you fall asleep.
Three episodes of the Kardashians later, you had finally fallen asleep and Michael couldnât have been happier to hear you snoring. He waited a while later, making sure that your roommate really was going to stay out all night before he put the plan into action.
Michael carefully crawled out from under the bed. Staying as quite as possible, he tip toed to the side of your bed to set everything up. With the fake severed head he bought at a Halloween store in place and him positioned so you couldnât see him, he turned the flashlight on and started shining it into your face.
It was hard to stay asleep with a bright light in your face and it was even easier to wake up when a severed head was right in front of your face. Suddenly, you werenât exhausted at all, instead you were sitting up screaming, threatening to run out until you heard the laughter of your best friend.
âAre you kidding me Michael,â you shouted, getting out of your bed to slap him.
âGuess itâs not so fun when someone uses your fear against you for a prank.â
âNo, itâs not,â you breathed, trying to get your breathing back in check. âLetâs not use our fears against each other anymore.â
âYou mean youâre not giving up?â
âHell no! Thereâs no way Iâm letting you pick out my Halloween costume.â
IV.
With neither one of you willing to give up the bet continued. Thankfully, the scares had become less scary and more of an annoyance with both you and Michael jumping out at each other in random places. The jump scares were the primary reason the two of you were banned from the library, after all.
All that was changing tonight though, as you had come up to a fool proof way to win this contest. Not to mention, Halloween was coming up shortly and the two of you really needed to get your costumes in order.
The two of you were hanging out in his dormâs lounge working on some homework when you set the plan in action â or you gave the signal for your drama friends to start the plan. All of a sudden the bowl of popcorn that was sitting on the end table by Michael fell over.
âWhyâd you knock the popcorn bowl over?â
âI didnât touch it,â he grumbled, getting up to pick up the popcorn pieces. âIt just fell over. Maybe you didnât put it on the table right.â
âRight, âcause thereâs a right way to put a bowl on a table,â you said, rolling your eyes.
The first step was complete. The next step came shortly after when the television began randomly changing channels and the volume increasing, while the remote sat untouched in front of you. You looked at Michael and Michael looked at you, neither one looked amused.
âYou can stop trying to scare me itâs not working,â you said.
âI swear Iâm not doing anything.â
âWell, itâs not me. Maybe your lounge is haunted.â⨠âThe lounge isnât haunted,â he said matter-of-factly.
âYeah youâre right,â you sighed.
You let silence fall between you two for a few moments before implementing part 3 of the plan.
âMichaelâŚthereâs something â shit Michael thereâs something behind you!â
âHa ha very funny,â he said, turning around to see that there really was something behind him.
Without a moment of hesitation, Michael grabbed your hand pulling you as he ran out of the room. Except, that wasnât the best idea since part 4 of your brilliant plan was waiting with a chainsaw. It was only when the chainsaw reeved up that Michael dropped your hand and ran as fast as possible out of the building and into the quad section of the dormitories.
When you found him, he was hunched over trying to catch his breath while trying to keep his pants hidden.
âDid you pee?â you exclaimed, noting the darker color his jeans were taking on.
âDonât laugh.â
âOh my god Mikey, I didnât mean to make you pee!â
âWhat do you mean didnât mean to? This was your idea?â
âWell, yeah,â you trailed off. âI mean I really wanted to put an end to this bet so we could get costumes but I didnât realize I would scare you this much.â
âI underestimated you,â he smiled.
âNo hard feelings, then?â
âNo, weâre good, as long as you donât make me dress up as something too humiliating.â
âI think peeing your pants is as humiliating as it gets in college,â you teased. âIâll just make you bumble bee instead.â
