He’s Abe Sapien; he’s amphibious, so he does fine out of water but is super strong and fast in it
He’s... he’s not Abe Sapien. (i know people like to headcanon that but, it’s not a fact and most likely not the case)
Movie Abe (aka del Toro’s Abe) had to use a water breathing device. I think if anything fish bf will be more like comic Abe who can stay away from water for like a week and then uses bathtubs when he’s traveling. We also see a filled, swampy bathtub in the trailer which I guess is probably located in Elisa’s apartment.
