DWC May 2025 Day 1 - Cruel/Beauty
Suramar. The crown jewel. Height of beauty, of refinement.Â
City of class...of classes, and cruelty masked as genteel grace. Yes, even now, from time to time, après la rÊvolution.
Clad in simple ebony robes, the hooded nightborne cast a mysterious figure as he meandered purposefully through the Commons toward his destination - a small enclave in Sirenâs Vigil. The night proved peaceful, his arrival concluding without trouble or concern. Suramar was different now but caution was always prudent.
Shine and Shadow
(Set back on Feb 14 for Vixannyaâs art gallery opening: Hedonismia)
Darkness came early to the floating city of Dalaran, shadows grew up buildings and the brisk breezes tempted Tinnaire to pull tight the fur shawl she wore. She smiled and looked at her taller companion. She was grateful and excited for his company tonight. He bowed his head and gave her a small smile back. They walked wordlessly, companionable through the city with the crisp noise from their heels bright in their elven ears. Tinnaire and Jencir inhaled sharp, chill air and often glanced up to admire flirtatious stars where they coyly peeked from behind the clouds. The moons would make their appearances later in the night, ever the elegant ladies. Tinnaireâs hand tightened where it rested lightly on his arm, pausing his approach. Near their goal now, they could see the door to the gallery. She wanted one more quiet moment with him before they would plunge into the bold party to come. She looked him over appreciatively; at the darkness pooling in the inky tail of his long locks hanging down his back. His dusky skin reflected the shadows back to her and she saw his markings shimmer like soft galaxies near enough to touch. The dressy silver ear cuffs were a final, refined detail. For herself, her bright blonde hair piled loosely up, pinned with diamond sparkling sticks and shining with the warm lamp light. Gold and more diamonds dripping from her own long ears. He gathered the night and she gathered the light. A perfect pairing for this night of delights. @daily-writing-challenge mentions: @wildswalk-the-stars
The Northern Lights were always breathtaking. A wonder of the world, surely. Even the simpler starry sky was stunning. She had never known the constellations before, even when Jencir had tried to point them out--she remembered the story about the snakes and the island, but couldnât pick out the cluster that symbolized them. Perhaps they werenât even in this hemisphere? But, over the last little bit, out here with him, she had started to learn a few. She snuggled her nose deep into her scarf, but smiled to see his face turned up to the night sky yet again. Tinn would never tell him, but he got an almost boyish charm when he shed the ageless stoicism for fascination. Stars did it to him every time.
She had tried not to be terribly invasive of his space. But she had been. Her heart swelled. The changes heâd made for her. The things theyâd worked on together the first few days; just in case. Tinnaire had tried to make it up to him, but at some point you had to just accept that people that cared about you would be willing to do moderately uncomfortable things for your safety and well being. And demons made him understandably uncomfortable.
It was nearly a year to when theyâd become closer. The beginning of the Hallowâs End Festivities. Theyâd dashed across Pandaria collecting laughter and memories at half a dozen candy buckets. She looked up at him as they walked silently together. Maybe she could convince him to do that again, for a few nights.

Day 8 - Wonder/Invasive
DWC 2021 - Day 4 - Starlight & Skulls
Tinnaire sometimes sped up the process with a little heat. She was impatient, and the body modification faire was coming up quickly. She had to increase her stock! And with fire coming so naturally to her, it was hard not to nudge the process along. She tried to wait for nature when she found something in the wild, but this had been a fresh kill for sustenance, and the skeleton a gift. Besides, it was so cold here the usual processing would take too long if she let nature do all the work. Thatâs what she told herself, anyway, as she drew the tiny rune with a fingertip on the glass. All it would be was the tiniest warmth that settled in the large cloche jar. But it would be enough to cut days off the cycles. Her lips curled up at the corners to see condensation started. Some would say the see-through jar with the doe head was a bit macabre, but the process was fascinating and Tinnaire would not deny herself the study of it--though she had seen it hundreds of times. She stood up and surveyed the small work area sheâd commandeered from Jencir. Her days here were busy and the company was good. She was adjusting her schedule, and she suspected he was, too.
The small workspace was a simple building, and heâd set her up a table and the necessary equipment. There were sharp knives that hung on the wall, buckets and rags, her paints and jars of chemicals, a barrel of snowmelt water, and over the tiny pump-handle sink there was even a window. The thick glass must have been expensive. Not for the first time, she wondered what he intended this tiny building to be in the future. The shelves had been here, too. Now they were lined with tiny taxidermied mice--a special request fondly undertaken--costumed and posed. The valiant knight in his shiny tin armor and shield was the best of that lot, obvious care taken with him. She had been experimenting with painting on the skulls, and had a few she was growing crystals on. There were frames to layout and bones to bore beading holes into. The door creaked and homestead clearing was quiet when she stepped out this late in the afternoon. The sun was dipping below the tree tops and shadows were gathering. Soon, Jencir would wake, theyâd eat together, supper and breakfast, and then go about their work. Maybe after a walk or a bath. She couldnât be bored with him pointing out constellations and she wondered, again, how many of them had changed while his people were trapped in their shield. Maybe sheâd try her own hand at hunting again tonight. There was a bow just for her--his were all much too strong of draw for her--and she was determined that sheâd bring in some sort of game before she left. He was already too generous with her. Her hand traced the sigil on the door to the main cabin again, and her eyes fell, knowing what it had been fortified against and why. Demons. Shadow. Fel. The glow of the runes seemed out of place here where the more natural glow of moonlight off snow seemed less rude. She looked up, and her heart swelled again. The first flicker of starlight winking strong through dusky skies fortified her. This was a good place.
Her lips quirked as she pushed inside. Anyone who wandered into her shed might get quite a fright, though.

Grateful
Fiorenze was beautiful when she smiled like that. Triumph made most people striking to see, but it painted Fio gorgeous. Tinnaire, for a moment, forgot the edge of worry that was driving her while she was looking at the other woman. But then her eyes dropped to the wash basin turned scrying pool and it came back to dampen the pleasure of a moment before. The spell had caught its target and an image shimmered onto the surface of the water.
Tinnaire was glad Fio had been here. Scrying was not Tinâs specialty, but Fio had always excelled with it. The image on the surface of the pool was dark and  confusing at first and Tinnaire leaned forward to squint. Was he hurt? She couldnât tell. There was something covering most of him, but she saw enough to confirm the missing nightborne was there.
But where was there? Orgrimmar. Yes. The hard packed earth, darkness, and the dull color of the Cleft of Shadows. Tinnaire was more than familiar with the dark alleys there; more than many would assume. She nodded over her shoulder, catching Sevenâs eyes. They had both marked the image.
Momentary Reprieve
Tinnaire was uneasy with the quiet. She had been resting all evening, expecting the call again anytime, and now they were well into the night. Were things finally turning around? The tension in her back did not let her think so and she rubbed her knuckles into the knotted muscles. Even with all the people answering the call to defend, things were stalled at best. Honestly, in Tinâs opinion, until now, everything had been getting worse all the time.
Oh. There it was. Coming down the road in the form of a couple of scouts trotting back to camp.
One scout, Xylaes it looked like, went straight for where Talonoa and his lady were set up. Tinâs back straightened. That probably meant something was coming. Stellan was still in the field, it seemed. Her gaze shifted from the mercenaries around various campfires to the dusty road toward the Crossroads. Jencir caught her gaze and briefly followed it. He was quiet, clearing up the small things from the light supper heâd made for them. The moons and stars were clear through the cloudless sky, their light rimming Jencirâs profile in silvered gilt. She smiled at her friend when heâd felt her eyes. Her own eyes caught on the glimmer of his tattoos, sweeping down his cheek and dancing with the moonlight.
He was about to say something, but halted, interrupted instead by the sudden vocal message coming through on Tinnaireâs communication device. Talonoaâs direct voice cut through the stillness that had been hanging:Â Â
âMultiple frostwyrms incoming from the west, at least five spotted, accompanied by scourge and cultist ground troops - ETA fifteen minutes. Everyone to arms, weâre going to intercept them just outside the Crossroads. Work together, have each otherâs backs, and donât die. Booze is on me afterwards.â
All previous thoughts dropped with practiced efficiency from years on the battlefield. Tinnaire rose in time with Jencir.
Sun above that man was tall.
The incongruous thought made her huff a soft bark of laughter. She tightened the knot of her hair, preferring to keep it out of her face in a fight, and reached for her staff. Magic came at her call and sang through her veins. Her heartbeat quickened, though she made sure to keep herself in check. âAre you coming with us, Jen?â
He nodded, restringing his bow with practiced motions. He was with her.
