“Promise me one thing—don’t pretend this was nothing.” ( bell @ lydia, have some angst for our girlies :') also i miss you!! <33 )
@indigodreames / tragic lovers prompts
From the moment they decided to work together, Lydia knew that sooner or later, things would end. At the time, she dared to believe it wouldn't affect her as badly. She and Bell were friends. Whatever happened, they'd survive it - maybe they could even look back and laugh about this in time.
But after months of their ruse, of the lines between fantasy and reality blurring at every turn, Lydia realized they couldn't just go back to how things were before. She didn't want to, either.
It's reckless, uncharacteristically so for her, to act without thinking, especially in regards to something as fragile as this. Yet she crosses the distance between them as easily as breathing and takes Bell's hand in her own, gaze fixated on her.
"Of course it wasn't. It meant something to me." It meant everything, so much more than Lydia could've ever imagined. That was why it was all the more terrifying, the idea of losing Bell - to their lies, or the feelings she tried to hard to keep buried.
But if there was the smallest chance Bell felt the same way? She had to try.
"I don't think I can just... go back to being friends." The words are tentative, and Lydia wonders if Bell can hear the waver in her voice, the way her heart is slamming against her ribcage. "I know it wasn't part of the plan." Her smile is almost apologetic. "And I really, really tried to fight it... but I like you. A lot."
Her thumb gently brushed against Bell's hand. "It was real to me. I'm not ready for it to be over."
