He laughs, because why shouldn’t he, how can he stop himself? She’s sweet like a summer wine, like the morning sun, bright and enjoyable—but she wasn’t the evening, Eponine was the evening, dark, mysterious and passionate.

     ’Thank you, Cosette,’ he says, putting the pen down, nib far away from the paper, just in case. ‘Grantaire is a very good artist, his calligraphy is incredible, he’s been showing me how to do it just so. But I’m sure yours is lovely, too.’

     He’s had a lot of practise. He’s been “finding” more poetry by his “priest” as of late.

It is true--her penmanship is hardly that of a lady's. Her words are splotched where the ink has fallen in defiance. This boy--Prouvaire--seems to her to be the symbolic skull, etched with the phrase 'Et en Arcadia Ego' upon his creased brow. A tragic character with many monologues that she will have to ask her father on the meaning of most of the words in order to gain the extent of the emotional experience--and yet, he moves her simply by the tone of his voice.
