“Seed Awakening” was classically heavy and pummeling Nevermore music, especially with Andy Sneap’s remix of Enemies of Reality.  The only difference between it and what came before was the track was just a bit more direct in its approach, though even then it wasn’t that far removed from Dead Heart in a Dead World.  It was true that Kelly Gray’s production was cheap and muffled, as even with Sneap’s intervention the drums don’t hit as hard as they should given that Van Williams was clearly flexing; by the same token, Warrel Dane’s warbling about reality being the strongest drug was more prominent in the mix than it should’ve been as it exposed that his proclamations were nowhere near as impactful when just laid bare and left to sit there.  But Jeff Loomis was still a beast on the guitar and the streamlined writing gave his riffs more focus and blunt-force power, and ultimately “Seed Awakening” was another killer Nevermore track in a discography full of them.
