@jedda-martele gave to the fountain fundraiser and requested: Something in the same universe as It's a Very Distinctive Family Resemblance. Maybe the teams meeting?Ā
Title: Getting The Grandkid To Do The Chores
Rating: General
Notes: Iām not sure how far I fulfilled the spirit of the request (as you can see I pared it down a bit) but hopefully it will be super amusing to make up for it :DĀ
Captain America, Black Widow, the Winter Soldier, and the Falcon walked into a gastropub.Ā
Technically they were out of uniform, so just four unusually attractive people looking for lunch, but the host seated them and then made a beeline for Eliot.Ā
āSuperheroes at table nine,ā she said.Ā āThey are your problem.āĀ
āSure goddamn are,ā Eliot sighed.Ā āIāll take care of it.ā
āTry not to break any windows this time,ā she replied.Ā āIām staying in the kitchen until they leave.āĀ
She had, conveniently, seated the four of them at a six-top, so Eliot pulled out a spare chair and sat down without preamble.Ā
āWell,ā Captain America said to him.Ā āYou must be the fella.āĀ
āYouāre right,ā Black Widow said to the Winter Soldier, also known as Bucky Barnes or, as Eliot liked to call him, granddad.Ā āThe family resemblance is uncanny.āĀ
āI wear less eyeliner,ā Eliot said.Ā āYouāre spooking my service staff. You couldnāt call ahead?āĀ
āThought you might bolt if we did,ā Bucky said.Ā
āThat sounds like you need something,ā Eliot replied.Ā
āImagine we do,ā Bucky said.
āI am losing my whole-ass mind,ā Sam Wilson announced.Ā āDo you two do this laconic banter any time youāre in the same room or is it some kind of weird performance art you put on just for us? Also are you special forces?ā he asked Eliot.Ā āItās a very distinctive posture.āĀ
āNot anymore,ā Eliot said.Ā āNot really looking to insert myself in the superhero world, either,ā he added to Bucky.
āWe need your crew,ā the Black Widow said.Ā āOne job, in and out. Weāre too visible, and we donāt have a --Ā ā
Parker descended from the rafters, dropping into the chair next to Eliot.
ā -- thief,ā Black Widow finished.Ā
āHi,ā Parker said. She gave Eliot a beseeching look.Ā āI want to be a superhero.ā
Eliot sighed, because if Parker was here, Hardison was on his way, and he too would want to be a superhero.
āYouāre lucky I believe in supporting my family,ā he told Bucky.Ā āLetās hear the pitch...ā

Re: ice delivery man photo. I found it in a newsletter from a heritage society in Texas (https://issuu.com/absolutelymemorial/docs/memorial-december-2015/66). It says it was used with permission from Story Sloaneās gallery. Searching that led to this page http://www.sloanegallery.com/newpage69.htm which does show the image as well as a disclaimer about not using their photos without written permission. Apologies if youāve already looked yourself but I was curious also.
Thank you! I reached out to the Sloane Gallery right after I posted that. Hereās hoping they will be open to me using it for scholarly purposes.Ā

What language do you use? I've seen this post a few times and while I like the idea I also do not generally use religious language. So if you have specific phrases that worked in a more secular context could you please share?
I guess you could call it emotional or therapeutic language. Iāve saidĀ āI hope you find more empathy in yourself somedayā orĀ āIām sorry to see you canāt be more kind.ā I think also you could sayĀ āIām sorry to see hate is so deep in your heartā but that felt a bit extreme to me in the conversations I was having.Ā Ā
I think the ultimate point is just to take the focus off whether or not X group deserves rights -- it assumes that they do and that in asserting they donāt, the other person is behaving badly. So itās a lot aboutĀ āHey, you arenāt exactly being a nice person here.ā Kindness, empathy, and compassion arenāt exclusive to any specific faith.Ā

Not on the queue side, but shit is changing so fast that perhaps Iāve got a bug you donāt. I just have times and days of the week, no dates, but a little calendar icon to sayĀ āthis is scheduledā.Ā

I think that offering your essay to someone else working on a research/library science degree, essentially offering it as a reverse engineering project, would be fascinating.
I mean, itās free to a good home. If I were doing a degree program of some kind I would 100% work on it -- I just lack the time and in some cases the resources. My last job had JSTOR access and this job doesnāt, which is the unkindest cut :D

Is that the "Wait, Twitter is *public*?" film, or was that something else?
I honestly donāt remember, but I tend to tune out discussions of twitter in any case :DĀ

I remember an LA Times editorial saying that Chef was a groundbreaking movie for letting the main character reclaim his masculinity and do things Men Should Do - eat meat, form their own business, road-trip. "Chef is a sexist movie - and that's a good thing" was the title, and the high point. I think about that column a lot.
Yeah, that checks out, I can see how it might appeal to a person who thinks their life is going poorly because Men Arenāt Allowed To Be Men Anymore.Ā

I donāt know. I feel fandom has warmed up to Happy more with the Spider-Man movies, especially Far from Home. Prime time for creating a weird backstory AU. :D
Could be part of it is I havenāt seen the Spider-man movies. I like Happy fine as a supporting character In IM1 and 2, and he had a very nice scene with Morgan in Endgame, but I donāt...want to read fanfic about his existential crises.Ā Ā

PEAPOD, BABY.Ā
I get a big order from Peapod grocery delivery at the start of every month, then I supplement it with fresh stuff from Trader Joeās. I do occasionally nip down to Jewel and pick something up if I canāt get it at TJās or can get it cheaper at Jewel, and PeaPod is supplied by Jewel anyway I believe, so I suppose you could call me a Jewel man :DĀ

I ALMOST DID BRING THE UKE :D But itās an in-person sale, because itās damaged/returned goods selling cheap, so you canāt really order the stuff online. I got some good deals!Ā

Itās the Lincoln Park one, up at North & Clybourn, near the Marianoās and the Arclight shopping center.Ā

I'm a little afraid you don't know what turkey-ham is, honestly. I had no idea it was so regional.
I mean, Iāve lived in a lot of different places, Iāve shopped and cooked for myself for over twenty years, Iāve NEVER SEEN Turkey-Ham. Iām sure itās been there, Iāve just never encountered it. I think thatās whatās frightening me, maybe, that itās clearly been present and flown under my radar. What else lurks in the grocery store?
Being fair to me, I donāt eat deli meat, like, itās just not part of my diet, so Iām rarely in the deli meat area for long enough to spot stuff like that. Ā

There is one moment that I've seen practically every Leverage fan either decry or attempt to give an alternate reason for - Hardison not tipping the delivery guy. I've never seen so many people united about such a short clip.
That was a really strange moment. Like it didnāt contribute to the story or to Hardisonās character development, and itās never called back to again. It felt like it was some kind of weird inside joke, like two of the writers were having this argument or something.Ā
