Karma | Jared Davidson

you'd been told all of your life that you'd never amount to anything. you'd never get anywhere in life. never go to college. never get a stable job. never have a boyfriend. you'd never have a fulfilling life.
you never paid any attention to any of it. in your mind, if you believed in yourself, you could achieve all of your wildest dreams. you were a firm believer in karma, how it would come back around. you kept your side of the street clean. some wouldn't know what you mean.
it started with you graduating from high school at the top of your class; valedictorian. of course, in your speech, you said the words that had all the other kids in your class seething.
'karma's a relaxing thought.'
you weren't just accepted into college, you were accepted on a scholarship to a prestigious ivy league university. four years later, you were graduating mega cum laude with a business degree in hand. and in your acceptance speech?
'karma's gonna track you down.'
you started as an administrative assistant for a publishing company based out of montreal, quebec. but in less than three years you'd climbed your way up the ranks and into a more professional role; junior manager, soon to be ceo.
people could talk shit about you for the hell of it. but they're terrified to look down. because if they dare, they'll see the glare of everyone they burned just to the ground. you included.
there was one part of those hurtful words from your childhood that had stuck with you for years. about how you'd never get a boyfriend. you'd never admit it out loud, but that made you insecure. what if that one thing was right? what if you never found someone?
but then you did. maybe it was fate, or just pure luck. coincidental timing. you'd been assigned to drop off a new selection of children's books to the laval rocket for their holiday fundraiser.
it had been comical, really. you, carrying a box of books stacked so high you couldn't even really see in front of you, and then him, walking down the hallway, looking at his phone, giant hockey bag with sticks in it slung over his shoulder. bamn. right into each other.
that was almost two years ago now. and ever since then, jared davdson had been the missing piece of your puzzle you'd been longing for.
of course, people had their criticism. professional athlete. he'll break your heart. he's too good for you. you're in over your head. but as always...
karma is the thunder, rattling the ground. on their scent like a bounty hunter. you and and karma vibe like that.
now, jared is making his nhl debut. and you couldn't be prouder of him. he is your greatest gift, and what you consider to the best karma.
'i'm so proud of you. go out there and kill it.' you said before he left your car to head inside the bell centre, kissing him sweetly.
during the game, you took a video of him that the jumbotron had playing for everybody as he skated around for his rookie lap.
'karma is the guy on the screen, coming straight home to me.'
