Les and Davey had just finished their first day as Newsies! To unwind they went to Jacobi's with the others. Les wasn't having much fun though... The older kids were playing poker but Davey wouldn't let him join!

He began to look around room, trying to find some sort of entertainment when he spotted a girlsie. She had short, almost a boy style, ginger-brown hair. And clear hazel eyes... Les couldn’t help but stare at her. His chin rested on his palm, a soft smile on his face.

Les snapped back to his senses and mumbled to himself "What am I talking about? Girls- Girls are icky!" His cheeks felt slightly warm as the girl made her way towards him.

"Why were you'se starin at me?" She crossed her arms.

"I-I wasn't starin!" He defened standing up and glaring at her.

"My name may be Smalls and I'se may be a girl but I can still soak ya!" Smalls shouted. Making all the other newsies look at the two.

"You can't soak me, even if you tried!" Les contorted glaring back. Davey and Jack jumped and pulled the two apart quickly.

"Leslie Jacobs, that is no way to treat a lady!" Davey scolded "Now, apologize."

All the other newsies turned back to the poker game, not wanting to get into this argument, especially with their leader.

"You too Smalls, say ya sorry." Jack said calmly. She tried to stumble out a contort "Juliet..." He said, his demeanor changing at light speed.

That stopped her quickly. "M'sorry for sayin' I'se gon soak ya Les." She sighed.

They shook hands as an apology and Les swore Small's cheeks were the lightest shade of pink.

On the walk home, Davey pipped up and said "You are going to sell with Smalls tomarrow, okay? And you are going to be nice to her. Maybe even give her a flower or something. You need to know how to treat a lady."

Les blushed "What?! N-No, she's... not like them other girls. I can't describe it Davey."

He chuckled "I know what it is. Trust me Les, she'll love a flower. Especially from YOU!"

Les was confused. Did Davey know something he didn't? Well, Davey was smarter than him so it would make sense. He shrugged it off, trying to determine this feeling in his tummy at the mention of the fiesty girl.
