pairing jay x gn! reader. genre fluff. wc 359.
it was funny how you could live opposite someone for such a long time, yet spend none of that time getting to know that someone. so close, yet so far away. if it hadn’t been for your need for a ladder, you probably never would’ve talked to jay at all.
but there you stood, seconds after knocking on his door, in front of his apartment. he casually made his way over to the door, not in any rush, and pulled it open to see you.
‘hi, i’m y/n,’ you started. ‘i was wondering if you have a ladder.’
‘uhm, what for?’ jay raised a brow, folding his arms across his chest and leaning against his doorframe.
‘oh, well i was decorating,’ trailing off, you gestured towards the apartment behind you, your apartment. ‘for christmas, not just in general. i can’t reach the top of the walls to put my lights up.’
‘i don’t have a ladder,’ your neighbour stated, meaning he was just wasting your time then. ‘i can help you, though.’
that was how you ended up decorating your apartment with him, a complete stranger despite him being your neighbour. you made hot chocolate and laid out some snacks, letting him do most of the work for you. but when it came to the tree, the two of you quietly hung decorations from the fake branches together.
‘ooh, the star!’ you stood abruptly, grabbing the star from the box at your side. standing on the tips of your toes, you leaned over the tree to place the star on top. of course, you couldn’t reach.
you weren’t expecting what came next. jay stood, carefully wrapping his arms around your waist and hoisting you up. it felt so natural that you simply let it happen, placing the star at the very top before he slowly lowered you down to the ground. his arms were still around your waist when your feet met the rug, and being so close to him made your heart beat furiously. a smile made its way onto your face, and you knew this wouldn’t be the last you were going to see of your neighbour.
