Tuesday night's cast & crew and industry screening of Redlining The Film, was one of those pinch-me moments where you realize all the late nights, script rewrites, and existential directorial crises were actually worth it. (Who knew?).
The turnout was beyond what I'd hoped for, and the energy in that room gave me the kind of confidence you can't fake—or buy—or generate through excessive Instagram affirmations. This film might actually have legs. Real ones. Not the CGI kind.
My co-star and BFF Alexandra Paul—yes, that Alexandra Paulform Baywatch—drove all the way from Oregon with her husband Ian Murray to play my mom in the film. And before you ask: yes, you'll have to watch to figure out how that casting choice makes perfect sense. Trust the process, people.
The cast showed up in force: KareemFerguson, Dalila Ali Rajah, Scott Krinsky, L. Trey Wilson Ethan Walker, and Susan Hopper (who also crushed it as Production Designer). Major love to our Make Up Designer Amy Lederman for making us all look like we had our lives together, and to our hilarious AD Jamison Reeves for keeping us on schedule while somehow making it fun.
And then there are the people without whom this film literally would not exist: Producer Steve Campbell and DP & Editor Billy Clift. I mean it—literally. I'd still be staring at an empty Final Draft document wondering what a call sheet is.
My agent Ryan Hayden made the trek from the Valley (a true hero's journey), and associate producer Belinda Carrollcame up from San Diego. Plus, so many longtime friends turned out— Stephanie Hodge, Jake Hunter, Deena Freeman, Emily James, Val Stulman, Robert L. Goodman —and new pal Lesley O'Toole-Roque joined the celebration.
Co-writing and co starring alongside the brilliant Lee Garlington while also directing was... let's call it "character-building." But standing in that room Tuesday night, surrounded by this incredible community of talent and support, I felt nothing but gratitude.
Here's to taking big swings, making art with your people, and hoping the world wants to see what you've made.
