Jason Gently has had something wrong with him for as long as he can remember. At home it had always been loving, and caring. His family were all odd in similar ways and knew how to love each other endlessly for who they were as people, for the things that made them unique. Unfortunately for Jason, the rest of the world wasnāt quite as accepting of his brand of oddities. From a young age, the combination of constant bullying from other children and his own accident prone nature had him hurting more often than not.
Despite this, Jason was always happy, always smiling, he made friends in the muggle school he learned in growing up. His best friend was named Martin, and he was the most important person in Jasonās life outside of his family. When he received his Hogwarts letter at the end of primary, Jason decided to finally tell Martin how he felt. And after being attacked by Martin in turn, he was all the more glad to be going away to Hogwarts the next year, even with the newly acquired scars he now needed to hide.
His family was incredibly excited to have another magical folk in their family, Christopher Gently being a half blood himself. They were all there to see him off to Hogwarts his first year. He was sorted into Sytherin, felt immediate pride for his house and brilliant people in it, but as most things for him it wasnāt quite so easy.
The bullying followed him to Hogwarts with his sorting. Other Slytherins found it all too easy to pick at his faults, he wasnāt a pureblood, he was too small, too timid, too gentle for the house. He became known as the misplaced Hufflepuff amongst his peers, a badger in snakeās clothing, and far from accepted by other Slytherins.
He didnāt stop being himself, but he learned to be more quiet. He learned to stay out of other students' way, how to shut up and take himself to the hospital wing, how to be happy with his own company. And his time at Hogwarts was as happy as it could have been along with everything else. He didnāt get the best grades in his classes, but his ambition showed every here and there in the things he took interest in, and Jason became extremely good at a specific handful of skills. He managed to learn to be an animagus, and it became all too easy to walk around in his little tabby cat form without being bothered. All was fine until the end of sixth year.
The attack was covered minimally by wizard media, decided that it had been caused by a gas fire, but the way the mansion had exploded all at once had been so sudden. And it left Jason with nothing more than an inheritance to keep himself financially stable. He would have given it all for his family back.
Now he has put his money and one of his few talents into the running of his own little bakery in Godric's Hollow. He thinks about the wrongs done to him, by muggle and magical hands alike, daily, and mourns for things he can never get back. And despite it he takes no side in the war.
Jason refuses to raise a hand or wand to another person, opens his door and his heart to anyone, loves easily and unconditionally as his family always taught him to, and puts others before himself at every opportunity.
He never wants to be responsible for another personās pain.
