been thinking about it and i have some mixed feelings about alanis’ interlude. bc the song SLAPS and i love the verses so much, but the chorus just... falls flat for me? idk i just feel like the verses are a very specific and beautiful depiction of love between wlw but the chorus is way more generic with concepts like “he is she is her, and her and he are love,” and that’s nice and all but i dont like the idea of my queer love for women (or the love of wlw in general!) being compared to love from cishet men?? bc it’s /not/ the same, it’s fundamentally different and revolutionary because we’re separated from the male gaze?? also i don’t love the whole “touting all these labels” line either bc yes, love is love regardless of labels, but also.. a lot of lgbt people feel powerful and intimately connected with their identity labels. labels are a radical way for a lot of us to reclaim ourselves from the cisheteronormativity we’ve been suffocated by since birth so i cant really vibe with the chorus the way i do with the rest of the song :/
