How I feel about this character: I absolutely adore Fleur. I think it's really common in modern YA lit to demonize femininity and promote masculinity, and JKR does such a wonderful job at making really fantastic women that are diverse in their personalities (as in there are good characters that are feminine and masculine and then there are bad characters that are feminine and masculine - there isn't just one or the other), and I think Fleur is a really good example of this. She's a feminine girl, but she's so strong and she isn't how you'd expect her to be. You know my mom is a really beautiful woman and because of that other women expect her to be stuck-up and snobbish when they first meet her and I think Fleur must encounter this issue as well. She's beautiful and she knows it, but she's also brave and ambitious and a hard worker and I mean out of all of the male and female students that were eligible for the tournament, she was selected to compete. And I think that says so much. And I absolutely adore that scene where she tells Mrs. Wealsey that Bill's scars don't matter to her and that it's a sign of his bravery; that's such an incredible moment because I think a lot of the characters were surprised by Bill and Fleur as a couple since they just didn't understand her as a person and this scene positively revealed who she was. Plus her dedication to learn English is so sweet; I can just imagine how adorable it must have been for Bill to privately tutor her like ugh office romance how cute. And she's a soldier! Like I love how she fights for the cause and she doesn't let the war get in the way of her love and happiness (like James and Lily!); like the world is in shambles but she is going to love with all her heart anyway!
All the people I ship romantically with this character: Bill obv
My non-romantic OTP for this character: her sister, Gabrielle! And I'm also pretty partial to her scenes with Harry; like I love when she calls him a little boy and he gets so upset haha. And I have this little head canon that she and Ginny got close when they were older; like maybe something happened at Ginny's bachelorette party where Fleur behaved in a way that was totally unexpected and Ginny was like "damn girl" and totally began to respect her. I like to think that they spend family parties whispering and giggling with one another.
My unpopular opinion about this character: I love her and I think she's more than just a pretty face.
One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.: I would like to know more about her as a person and maybe her romance with Bill.
Thank you for sending me this! :D
