UFC free fight.

The Ultimate Fighting Championship returned to IONtv for the second time airing a 4 fight prelim special. This was the first time since UFC 125 that the promotion was on this network channel. Walel Watson and striker YVes Joubin opened up the prelim special with a three round striking affair. Joubin known for his striking looked like a child next to the 5' 11'' Watson. Yves landed some one off hard shots but never successfully closed distance and had any sustained offense. Watson used kicks and strikes to keep Joubin on the outside for most of the fight. When the fight did go to the ground though it was Watson who round up on top snaking a D'arce choke nearly finishing Joubin in the third. After 15 minutes it was Watson more consistent striking versus the stronger one off shots of Joubin. Mine and most others scorecards had it 29-28 for Watson but we are not judges and two of the saw it for Joubin granting him the split decision. This whole fight is a wash. That is what Dennis Hallman said during his post fight interview after quickly dispatching opponent John Makdessi. Hallman missed weight by 2.5 lbs weighing in at 158.5 pounds sacrificing 20% of his purse after not making weight in another attempt. Hallman wanted to grapple with the karate stylist rushing to clinch with him at the opening round. Hallman used his size to his advantage taking Makdessi down and choking him out soon after. Constantinos Philippou made short work of Jared Hamman knocking him out at 3:11 of Round 1. Straight punches and a open chin were Hammans undoing. A quick straight 1-2 by Philippou dropped Hamman who was dropped again after getting to his feet and nearly chocked out. Philippou let his opponent up but another quick barage by Philippou sent Hamman reeling and the fight was stopped. This finish is a contender for Knock Out of the Night with most of the prelims done. Sometimes being a brawler is a good thing other times you end up waking up with a bunch of people stairing at you. For Krzysztof Soszynski it was the latter after he was knocked out in 35 seconds of round 1. Soszynski leaped in the fight early slugging it out but was soon caught by Pokrajac forcing him to back up to the cage and was finished off soon after.
